It struck me that having brand names goes against the simple tradition of the Amish. They are subterfuges really. It's a complex business and many experts are engaged in the black art of thinking them up. Even our given names are intended to present us to the world in a certain way. As are our usernames only the moreso as we choose them ourselves.

What is one to think of someone who styles herself Calamity Jane? I know what my first thought was of blueveinedthrobber. Which turned out incorrect. And The Pentacle Queen--what might one think with that.

The jelly on an Amish stall should have a white label on the jar with "Strawberry" or "Raspberry" written on it with a felt tip. And be on the Jelly rack. With a trade name one would have to have the labels printed presumably using modern technology.

Perhaps it was not a genuine Amish stall Thomas encountered. There does seem to be a compromise with the evil capitalist business world.

@spendius,
You're reading way much into labels, spendius - and our names for that matter. Mine was chosen at the spur of the moment, I am certainly no pioneer woman, but I liked what she stood for.

@CalamityJane,
Yeah, I chose mine after several italian food names were declined; it took perhaps 30 seconds. That was on Abuzz/NYTimes, and I kept the name for here. Long have I rued the choice, but, hey.

Welcome back - have you recently been on a trip home?

@CalamityJane,
Aw gee Cal!! And I thought you rode in in a cloud of dust, lassooed a bull steer to the ground with its horns, branded it and then shot out all the cups and saucers on the Welsh dresser whoopin' and a hollerin' like a demented banshee.

I'm gutted.

@spendius,
How 'd Jane be better off by mutilating the crockery, with gunfire ?
What point 'd be served by doing THAT??

Yes, osso, thank you for the welcome! I went to see family and also visited
Berlin (in the rain)...it was fun nonetheless.

spent the day being lazy. Took a long bike ride than lounged at the pool with BPJR and my oldest daughter. Then made steaks. Put my cell phone away. Great day.

Missed by fifteen hundredths of a second per lap? Man, that's gotta hurt.
Tell me what a "zone cut" is. I presume it's got something to do with team
or tournament qualifying time.

@George,
zones is basically a state wide competition. the zone cut is the time required for my members of my age group to qualify. SO CLOSE!!!
