I parked my car on the seafront at Largs yesterday and as I was walking away, I noticed there was a big black crow pecking at the bumper (fender) of a car parked near me.

I couldn't think why at first...then I realised that it was eating dead insects that the car had collected for it.

Smart crow.

I wasn't worried about Farmer - he was posting all the while, or a short while before, in a relatively jolly way. I didn't want to say so though, in case that would somehow jinx things.
But get that rig outta there, man.

Today is my father's birthday. He'd be 105. And my mother would be approaching 110. Finally I'm getting some perspective; about time, eh? I missed him a lot when he died, but even so, I wouldn't wish him to have to deal with being 105. I didn't miss my mother right away, although I was sad in an excruciating way... this long knell, the years of alzheimer's. The missing grew with the years, though. So now... The sadnesses have been allayed, and good memories have long since risen to the top.

@ossobuco,
I lost my mom and dad before I was 50 and even now I feel like an orphan. My DAd and I never got along until the ending few years of his life and we made up for a lot of lost time. I even got to hear him say he loved me , (although I didnt reciprocate and I dont know why).

FRABJUS DAY!!! we got the bit and stem out of the hole bey hooking up another rig and blowing compressed air from them both to help free it up/ WE got the hole drilled and I leave for home about 11 PM tonite when I hitch a ride on their company plane. I bough a whol pile of celosia plants for a small show garden. Celosias have flowers that require sunglasses they are so bright pink

@McTag,
Crows and ravens are about the smartes birds there are. We had a project in N NY state several years ago and once the ravens knew we would be around for lunch every day when we were drilling, they hung around early to set up a pecking order line up so to get a good dibby on the scraps. E used to throw sammich scraps and it took the ravens to putthis on their cellphones each day.

They learn really fast

@farmerman,
My father died when I was 26, and I first caught on to my mother's dementia when I was 28. So I know what you mean.

But, the Celosia, cool, you deserve them after all that worrywarting.

A fabulous early evening at the nearby farmers' market. Montforte Dairy was there with my most-loved Toscano cheese.

We had arancini and Nepoletano Pizza from Charlie at Colombo's.

Chatted with some of the vendors as they packed up. Listened to the square dance caller. Watched the kids hop and jump in the giant wading pool. Watched the dogs relax and enjoy watching the hubbub.

A relaxing start to the long weekend.

Mrs F got some really nice ST Looey cut ribs (Not at trimmed as baby backs but more trimmed than spare ribs, and still has that needed fat that they seem to always get rid of in baby backs). We are gonna be filled with the rib of the swine this weekend

@farmerman,
New neighbors. So far, quite glad.

Remember the christians who were gonna hep me? I am sardonic on all that, no offense to actual help folks, but the pose is annoying. Plus, those folk had enough of their own troubles with the kids (aka landlords) of the women I first knew there renting out the plotz. The kindly christians told me about all the black widows and much else, a little fuzzier in description.

But, I liked those folk.

So, now, a hispanic family, we're ok so far. His truck was in the way, I scooted by with the dread volvo, and went to meet him and child.

I think the person doing the renting is a relative of the woman I first met, who showed me her altar.. in her pristine home. The last folks had a lot of complaints.

@farmerman,
Fancy making all that fuss of a bit of bloody nutrient chopped off a rotting carcase.

It is considered singularly lacking in grace to speak of food in polite circles as Philippa Pullar explained in her very nice book Consuming Passions. It is because of the destiny of the morsels once they have entered the digestive tract. And possibly some knowledge of their origin.

Many think of such things as Food Porn which is all the rage on the television channels and magazines here dedicated to the interests of the lower-middle-class in its more common manifestations.
