I had control of a class today, sort of. I have been working with 1st and 2nd grades since I started, but the kindergarten classes are starting their literacy assessment this week and I took ocntrol of one classroom while the teacher and other experts tested each child, one-on-one. I bungled it badly, but the teacher kindly said I did a great job. The smiles came when the principal kept asking me if I was exhausted, saying how hard kindergarten was and I kept saying no! It's true, I wasn't exhausted. Now, by tomorrow afternoon I will be. Wednesdays I have a schedule which has to have been constructed in hell.

And, I got to meet and pet Freddy the bearded dragon lizard who will reside in one classroom I frequent.

Not smile, but laugh like a lunatic...

The memory of a fishing hook attached to my husbands jacket on the way to the pub.
Might not sound too funny right now, but I found that hook diving and promised it to somebody who collects them.
Years passed and I kept forgetting, and that thing was lying all over the place and every now and then the cat found it and I had to hide it somewhere else.

Well, finally it ended up on our shoe shrank, and attached itself to a jacket, that my husband was wearing to go to the pub.
Somewhere along the way I spotted it, and my husband's face just triggered something inside me and I could not stop laughing.

In the pub the thing was then placed on top of the table and everybody passing asked, what that hook was doing there.

Then to top the whole thing, the guy, who I was planning to give the thing to unexpectedly turned up in the pub.

And all night long I was laughing tears, just trying to explain the story to people.

Now early this morning, I was reminded of this fishing hook, and I could not stop laughing for at least 30 minutes...

(welcome, bohne)

There is this gas station. I stop by with our delivery van once a week or so to refuel. I've been going there for a number of years. It is next the a railroad track and there is this scruffy bit of woods behind it.
Home to feral cats. Generations of them. Some years they would be yellow; some years white, and this year black.
Recently the gas station/convenience store has been taken over by a family of Pakistani descent. We are getting to be friends. I pointed out a few weeks ago to the young clerk that I had been undercharged. That gained me some respect, reciprocated when one of my employees stopped there, got gas and discovered that I had failed to give him the company credit card. I stopped by on my way home and settled up.

Back to the cats. This afternoon when I stopped by, there were two women working very patiently trying to lure young cats into cages. A very slow process involving tuna fish tins and soothing talk.
I got my tankful of gas and then pulled the van around around and watched for awhile. I won't say I left smiling.
In a perfect world those cats would find a new, loving home. But that probably isn't going to happen. There is little possibility of there ever being a bridge of trust developing.

This isn't something from today, more like a month ago, but I just thought of it.

Driving back from camping in Incestville, Maine(or maybe it was Inbredville...or maybe Ifvckmysisterville), and drive by a funeral home. Under the large "Funeral Home" sign is the Mastercard, Visa, and Discover logos.

Can you think of a business you're more unlikely to see advertising the fact they take credit cards?

I'm so disappointed. I was hoping to find out what made Mame smile today.

What made me smile today? More painting work to be done.

Oh, wrong thread, isn't it?

Went to a marvellous Tafelmusik concert with Setanta last night.

At the intermission ... "Beth?" ...

Turned around - it was my best buddy from university days (did we really start university 30 years ago last month?), with her younger son.

He plays the oboe, is in a local youth orchestra, is considering going to university to study music (shades of SeattleFriend) ... really wanted to attend last night's very special concert ... his mom bought season tickets for both of them.

P (the mom) used to occasionally come to Tafelmusik concerts with me 15 - 20 years ago, when we both moved to Toronto. She was never a HUGE fan, but enjoyed the getting out part - and did like the music.

Now P's a subscriber, sitting in the same section I've had seats for 23 years now.

It was great to see her, it's been a few years. Life and stuff.

Very Happy
