What made you smile today?

Welcome to A2K Barry. I remember George Best. He and Pele were probably the best ever at the game that you call football; we call soccer.
They inspired a lot of us when we were kids.
I was sorry to hear of his death and to hear what a rough life he had after so much fame. The haunting quote went something like this: "I spent my money on fast cars, fast women and booze. All of the rest I squandered." Thanks for noting how he was remembered today. He was a great athlete.

Just noticed that a PM I sent to nimh on November 23 is still rotting in my outbox unread. I interpreteed this to mean he is way too happy in Budapest to bother reading messages, which made me smile. (Cough, cough ... no pressure Razz)

Really?? Oh dear! Yes, I have not checked my PMs in a while... I'll go look now.

Meanwhile, what also made me smile in Zagreb of course was meeting my Croatian friend, who came down from Koprivnica to meet up - nice.

That, and late in the hotel I watched two movies on TV, no, three, none of which was spectacularly good or anything, but "Suicide, the Comedy" made me LOL a lot. Didnt quite hold my attention, but sometimes the loquatious lead with his continuous commentary was pretty funny; especially the scene where he gets robbed of his wallet at gunpoint - or not - is hilarious.

The other movies were the saccharine and sentimental Playing by Heart, which had Angelina Jolie in a particularly cute role across from a boy with blue-dyed hair (hah!) - nuff said. And a movie about a young mother who decides to split up with her husband and then falls in love with the (female) boss at her new-found job - nothing particularly special but the woman, for some mysterious reason, reminded me strikingly of Soz. (Which is mysterious b/c, after all, I've never met Soz).

Oh, and the flat, round bread that you can get, along with celebrated cakes, as a dish with a choice of toppings (ajvar, cottage cheese etc) at Ivica and Marica, on Tkalciceva, Zagreb. Positively delicious.

spent a weekend at littlek's. BlaiseDaily was also present. we watched the most curious Korean movie: Saving the Green Planet... Combination of a detective story, sci-fi, comedy, and whoknowswhatelse about a psycho hunting down aliens with a circus performer girlfriend..... words don't do justice. it's a must-see item.

that, and littlek exclaiming her surprise at really skinny ankles of a guy sitting on a bench in front of the guy sitting on a bench... i believe they were made out of wood. or metal. she believed he was all made out of wood, but he turned out not to be...
ummm, guess you had to be there, for both....

thanking lk for hospitality and good times...

When Johnboy went into his quiet mode Sunday night (no TV, no radio; a time to read and write) all was quiet. When I woke up this morning, a dire forecast: 4 to 5 inches of snow; no, 5 to 10. The list of school closings got longer and longer. Twelve hours later, a mere 1/2 inch on my field and not much sticking to the pavement, Much ado about nothing.
I did happen to go to a grocery store today and, as typically is the case, there was panic buying. No milk left and the only bread left was these small loaves of rye bread that, as I remember from my childhood, my parents set out at cocktail parties. Not the bread of choice, evidentally.

One of my friends on A2K is Cowdoc from, I believe, Idaho. He used an expression I had not heard before: "A skiff of snow." I questioned him on it and he responded that it meant a dusting. Saturday a lady came in to my store and said that, when she had come over Carter's Mountain, there was a skiff of snow. She is originally also from that part of the country.

While it's true I have limited experience with dag and L'k out drinking, I would opine that either one of them would drink me under the table.

I had a drinking session with Dag once, but can't remember the details.

Whenever I think of it I feel excited, though.

I smiled all day thinking of what I found in front of our door this morning when I stepped out to get the newspaper. Our neighbour made a beautiful cake in the shape of two cats holding hands, uh, paws. She put it in front of our door as a Santa Claus gift. Soooo sweet! :-)

Hmmm ... when a man makes you come, but he's under the table so you never saw that it was a man, does that still make you gay? Twisted Evil
