dear whoa, it's me! you know your vignettes always make me stop. sometimes to smile. sometimes to reflect on something the vignette brought to mind. you're an extremely visual, as well as a provocative writer. a great gift. << huge smooches and hugs >> I'm very proud to know you.

Just came from a wedding... it made me smile to see the bride & groom so happy. It was especially nice to watch everyone dancing. The groom danced first with his bride, such a sweet couple. Then he danced with his mom -- both are characters and love to ham it up. Later the groom's mom started a conga line and the groom's father was grabbing people from the tables and bringing them onto the dance floor. It was great fun to see people of all ages dancing and trying to outdo each other with their moves.

Splendid ! Very Happy

Heliotrope,

What are you up to? ...inquiring minds want to know.

Well I'm in a couple of bands at the moment and also working out in Saudi Arabia (although not for too much longer). We prevailed upon the company to give us an old building that contained a squash court that we could use as a practice space. The only problem was control of the amazing sonic reflections from the walls. We hassled the company for some more money and had the walls and floor taken care of with sound absorbing material. This has just been finished (bar a couple of minor details) so over the weekend out here we moved all the gear in and started setting up to finish recording the last of our songs. We're playing heavy metal if you're interested.
We finished mixing one song last night and we really should be there now but I'm shattered after another long and soul-destroying day at work.

A place where I used to live had this old racquetball coiurt, and there was a trumpet player who would go in there sometimes and play, setting up these great resounding echoes of sound and then playing snippets of melody against them. Good stuff. (But definitely not something you'd want in a studio.)

Made me smile (it's morning here, and early for me)... Came out of my house to find two thug-looking guys sitting in a Caddy outside the old woman's house across the street. Had to laugh at the incongruity of it, in my sleepy old neighborhood.

I confess to being a Philistine when it comes to music, especially music of the last two decades.

However, what I picked up from your post was the sound of someone doing what they LOVE. THAT always delights and intrigues me.
That's why I asked my question.

People who are doing what they love are just naturally interesting, whether what they love is making music, or fly fishing or cooking
or even playing softball.

All the best in your musical journey.

now you have me blushing ... Embarrassed

's just stuff that happens, that's all - i just like to stop to write it down, so that it doesnt pass unappreciated ...

and i knew you'd love that anecdote up there!

What made me smile today: de Parade, a theatre circus that stops by in my home town for a week ... 's the place to be for ten days, dozens of tents and improvised theatres where kitsch is elevated into art in mini-performances (advertized by roaming actors), mixed up with funfair attractions with a twist and bars and food joints of all kinds (my favourite's got a fountain on its roof). Having bought tickets for one random act, we were hustled into a tiny theatre tent for a 1,5 minute performance that had Anastasia laughing out loud hysterically ten minutes later still. (I'm sure she'll show up to explain ; ).

Heliotrope: I was going to ask what kind of music you played but you answered that. One of my employees has a band that is doing pretty well. They are able to do a ten-day tour to different parts of the US and Canada about once every two months. They are with a
minor record label and are finishing up their third or fourth CD, which evidentally is pretty stressful.
Earlier on, Andy asked me for help in understanding the fundamentals of running a "business."
There are a lot of parasites lurking about on the fringes of the music biz. Be careful.
To get back on thread, what made me smile was Jjorge's comment about doing what you love. That's really what finding happiness is all about, isn't it?

My coworker made me smile today. We just unrolled a new system. I have been stressing over it and today I found out that I knew more about it than I thought. That made me smile big time.

Sure hard to read you people when it comes to what makes you smile, nowadays! <big grin>

In the category little things: pretty girl, bicycling past, saw me, smiled the most instantaneous of smiles at me before passing, me automatically smiling back.

Funny - once every while a girl suddenly spots you and smiles you the kind of delighted-surprise smile that leaves you feeling like you've just been kissed by a random stranger. Kinda nice ;-).

The sight of two excited dogs, one border collie, one cardigan corgi having identical markings down to the white tip on each tail, racing down the hill on a ranch track to the creek, just ahead of my Jeep. There is something about the bobbing tails, the sense of liberation, sharing their excitement as they fling themselves into the deep, dammed up section of the creek. Whooop!

Playing peek-a-boo through the fence with my neighbour's grand-daughter made me smile tonight. She is one of those little girls (just under two) with a very deep voice. When I opened the back door, and the little dogs went barreling out, I heard a deep little voice [[ dogs ]] [[ dogs ]] , and then a little pink person approached the fence, peered through, and grinned a gap-toothed grin at me.

Julia is a wildly courageous little person. She hasn't learned to be afraid yet. That headlong tossing of herself into life is very smile-making.
