And now I'm smiling for the same reason! It was so great to hear your voice, Urs!

hey! this be 'featured topic' now. thaz cool.

i went out dancing last night. tha' was cool, too. went by myself - too late to call anyone. the second dj was really good. its a beautiful place, and they had cool acts. but its this semi-closed club night - you gotta have been given a pass, or get the bouncer to like you (i dont have a pass, but the bouncer liked me) - and the mood was just - i dunno. too closed-shop. i dont mind snobbish, if it means people look good. but you're used to people smiling at you, right, or starting random conversations - to bond, kinda. one with the rhythm and all that <g>. this was, like, i dunno - closed. still, i went out dancing - for the first time in a while - and it felt good <grins>. and in the morning it was very quiet outside, very still - like, the light had come on already but the people hadnt noticed yet.

Cleo's confidence is getting stronger every day. Last night she approached Johnny on her own and let him doggie-talk to her and rub her belly. This morning she had fun playing 'where's Cleo?' . She was grinning, which made me smile.

I've been known to spend a bit of time at the "bar down the street." Last night I stopped in with a friend for a couple of drinks and dinner. Our regular waitress (S.) informed us that there was a four alarm fire raging in the apartment building of one of the other waitresses (M.). Luckily M. has a place to stay and will be able to borrow clothes from S. who wears the same size.....except for bras and underwear. I, being the Queen of Lingerie, stopped in tonight with a bag for M. It felt really good to be able to make her smile.

Thank you Rae. I think she'll bounce back nicely. Her spirits are good. Ironically, the bar down the street is owned by two local firefighters. They're throwing a fund raiser at the bar AND she works for an insurance agency by day so I'm pretty sure she has renter's insurance.

Well I just checked last night's lottery results and did I SMILE ? YES I DID. Not because I only had one correct number but cos there were no winners at all, so it's a roll over weekend on Saturday and it's also one of those special sooper dooper, special leg crossing, self hugging extra double helping draws. Which means if i have the only winning ticket i could win about the equivalent of 40 MILLION DOLLARS. Now that's an awfull lot of pizza, coke and a whole freaking herd of Camel, the ones with 2 humps as well.

OaK, you're upside down.

This one is actually from several days ago, so I won't be eligible for the prize, but it was a great big goofy smile.

Saturday was my birthday. Still, I had to go volunteer, and it was a hellish day. The volunteers in both shifts before mine have quit, so the work left over by the time I get there is monstrous, and it was hotter than hell inside the building on Saturday and the dogs were doing a lot of anxious shitting, which ain't fun.

Related side bar here: I really like sandwiches. Like, really like sandwiches. Where some people treat themselves to a dessert, I treat myself to a sandwich. I worked in a deli one summer where the only perk was that I got to make my own sandwich for lunch. It was great.

Back on topic: so, at the end of my shift, I hop in the car, blast some tunes (Uncle Tupelo, I think; I remember feeling all whiskey-rock in the car, whatever). And I get home, and laid out across the bar is a four and a half foot sandwich, with five different sections of various varieties, that the gf has made me while I was away. And there was Anchor Steam, which I'm always to cheap to buy, in the frig. And a strawberry-rhubarb pie cooling on the stove.

Good stuff, that. She knows me pretty well.

One of mine insists on insists on sitting between the computer screen & me ... coz that's where the heat from the air conditioner is best! Not so silly on such a cold night (Brrrrrrrrrr Shocked ) but not exactly convenient, either.

Mine like to nap under the halogen lamp, but when Murray's in a playful mood he'll try to grab or nip at my fingers as I type. They haven't seen much of me lately so my two boys are both starved for attention. I spent an extra hour in bed this morning playing with each of the kitties in turn.

Now I'm ready for a nap of my own. Wink

Smiling at the thought of PPDog's wonderful gf and that sandwich. Very Happy

I'll have to keep that in mind the next time Setanta needs a treat.

Seeing the avatar Setanta is wearing today is making me smile. It's part of one of my very favourite photos.

I got thinking about my last post, ruminating about it you know...and well...after a while, a wee little poem emerged...

'I Stole Something For You Today'
(for Kelly)

It wasn't armed robbery,

I had no gun or knife,

but I purloined these words:

You light up my life.

Aw.

Rain has been making me smile. Last week or so, it was beastly hot, and I was out for a walk and the rain started falling. Big soft fat drops, plopping in a friendly fashion, almost shy in their slow start (a drop here, a drop there) and then picking up confidence and really letting go.

Today, we've had these gorgeous waves of weather. BLUE blue sky with little sweet fluffy clouds skittering across it, which get bigger, and darker, and suddenly unleash a torrent!! Trees thrashing around violently, squirrels dashing for cover, gutters filling in an instant! Then the torrent passes, and the sun comes out, and everything's gleaming, droplets sparkling off the edges of every leaf, the green surreal in its verdancy, the blue impossibly deep. And then the little fluffy clouds are chased by the big dark gray behemoths, and it starts all over again.
