Congrats to the George pack!

I smiled a lot today. A wonderful couple got married today. I've known the groom for 23 years, since he was barely a teenager. Now he's got goddamn grey in his hair!
Being in a small town for a wedding is always smile-inducing.

Except for the country music at the reception.
Darling daughter. So smart. So interested in different things.
We had a nice dinner (Japanese), and the conversation was compelling and ...I was just so proud of her.
We talked about Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, daughter's impressions, the play we saw together recently--Cabaret, Liza Minnelli's turn as The Sterile Cuckoo--the social/mental construction of her character, the political climate circa the Cabaret, the Holocaust, her plans for the future, what's important to her, Maurice Sendak and the books she remembered from her childhood (couldn't believe she remembered so many)...slackers, art, and her brother....
I sat there, hanging on every word. Smiling.
Daughters. At every age. Thrilling, beautiful and brave, aren't they?

Having some free time to fool arnd on A2K
Thanks all for the congrats!
She is now a B.S. in Chemistry.
In September she starts grad school.
There's an actual Trabant for sale down the road for 440 euro; and three giggling girls crowd through the entrance here dressed in full folkloric costume. So it
is kind of E-Europe here after all ...
lazy morning with my man, cooking lunch, sitting on the porch for hours... getting to work at 6:30pm.... yes. very smile-worthy.
your man? <wicked curious> tell us more?
tli, tmi, what's this secret language? don't you try to fool me.
yes, i have a new man, Mr. B, who lurks around on A2K. He knows I think he's bloody fantastic, so I can say it here. Met him in September at a party, exchanged emails, finally met up for a lunch that lasted four hours a month ago, and went on a date that hasn't ended yet on May 25th. haven't spent a day apart since. that's why i fell off the earth's surface. who wouldn't.
That's our toes curl under -- precisely so that we do not fall off the face of the earth when we lose our heads...
(a wee joke, that, of course)
Went out to do an errand, at about 9:00 PM and the sun hadn't gone down yet. Weird and dawn-ish because at about 7:00 PM a huge storm had blown in, dusk-like, everything dark. Sozlet and I had happened to be someplace where we could see the storm coming and decided to pull over and watch, her in the front seat with me, picking out a radio station (she settled on country music, she said.) It was a great, dramatic, accelerated approach, the clouds visibly moving towards us and swirling ominously, lightning flickering, and then finally the rain. It has been beastly hot, and few things more lovely than a long-awaited rain on a hot summer day.
So after all of that, came home (still dark), had dinner (still dark), cleaned up (still dark) and then went out to the car. The clouds had broken in the west and suddenly there was quite a lot of light. Drove along with all the windows down, lovely cool rain-scented breeze mussing my hair, solo after a long and busy and fairly trying day, and felt total exhiliaration, a certain adolescent "I'm FREEE" sort of exultance.
It was nice.
This time of year, as I walk the dogs, I pass Nick (Hello Neighbour!!!) and Eva (always knitting something for a church bazaar) and Riyadh (a terrific kid, when he isn't posing as too cool for the neighbourhood) and yappy yappy yappy Pepe.
tonight, I grabbed some pix and ran prints back to Eva - who is going to mail them to her grandkids (who live about 5 minutes away)
They all made me smile tonight. And I made them smile when I told them I was going to tell my online friends about them.
<church bizarre - was that some kind of Freudian thing?>
