If my two boys were to present me with a grandchild, I'd probably be the happiest grandfather on this planet - and smile a whole lot!

Smiled more today than in months combined.

Daughter and I travelled with 40 or so assorted instructors and students to a FL dinner theatre and saw a rollicking production of Cabaret! Her first play--and it was great. I was just pleased that she focused on the story--when most people around us were more affected by the sexualized aspect of the show.

Proud of daughter--laughed ourselves silly.

A good day for mom and daughter.

Somehow the Blue Haired ladies of the First Baptist Church wound up at Cabaret!--when I think they may have (MUST have) anticipated Arsenic and Old Lace or something. That leather thong shimmied in a Blue-Hair's face--and her reaction ...priceless.

Caught up with the hamburgers last night.
They're in Hilton Head.
mrs. hamburger says she likes it better than Hawaii Shocked

Smiled today waiting for the bus to come home from the subway. A girl, about 12, in her private school uniform - kilt, white shirt, tie, blazer - won with happy face pajama pants and tie-dye sneakers. Gotta love someone with that fashion vision Very Happy

When Foxfyre accused liberals of being political when discussing Bush's initiative for social security private accounts. ROFLMAO - actually.

Looking at Frida Kahlo's self portraits with a class today when one girl said, in absolute disgust:
"Jeeze, you'd think she could wax her eyebrows, or something, wouldn't you?"

Laughing

I arrive at my work, kinda late, kind of with - not a literal hangover, I dont drink, more like a mental one, a bit - had nightmares - roll my chair to face the computer screen, open Outlook, and the top email in the list is from the people at my new work:

"I'm pleased to send a revised offer letter to you, reflecting a 10% salary increase in the annual salary. After reviewing your previous message and discussing with the International HR Director, [snipped] asked for this increase to better reflect the level of responsibilities you will be taking on and reinforce [our organisation]'s long term commitment to this position."

Shocked Razz

I'm getting a bit nervous about that "level of responsibilities" now! ;-)

That's great nimh...congrats...but I can't avoid asking this. Is the organization SO big and SO impersonal that NOONE from human resources (great phrase isn't that) or from your boss's cubicle could take the time to deliver the news to you in person? Would you have liked that, or is it no big deal? Just asking. I've got 32 people working for me and I try very hard to know a bit about them if they want to share that. Their families, their interests.

rjb - i'm pretty sure Nimh's new job is in another country, not just another organization - not quite cubicle-hopping distance

My uncle died over the weekend--he was really a great guy--a Bible Study leader, who swore like a sailor...at the funeral, one of the eulogists said, he knew his priorites...he just always found a way to work golf into them...

Anyway...this was a chance to see far-flung cousins and meet their most recent husbands...

I was happy to see my cousin's daughter--we'll call her Wild. She's still alive (which is a mystery to me), has the same husband she did last year (we applauded) and partied with Bush, Tony Blair and Cherie, Berlesconi (sp) and saw and heard some stuff that cracked me up.

She lives on St. Simons and had volunteered for the G-8. When I think of the jobs these people had, I want to slap myself for not volunteering. It's only 2 hours away.

She was assigned to herd the translators around. She was in a room with huge screens (extreme close-ups of the faces of the dignitary) so the translator could see as well as hear what their subject was saying.

She did attend a party with all of the G-8 leaders--and says Bush, Blair and Cherie were hilarious.

A couple of times, they all got out on the beach for a walk. (I know I saw pics of this in the media.) One day, they were all out walking, and a group of the volunteers sort of grouped up in a clump, just watching them... Everybody was looking for Bush---he was nowhere to be seen.

As if on cue, over the horizon comes one normal guy riding a bike, followed by about thirty guys in black riding bikes behind him. She said the sight was comical. As he breezed past the volunteers, he said, "...faster than a speeding bullet..."

She had pics of her standing between Blair and Berlesconi--with her mom (my cousin's first wife--not to be confused with the four since then) on the other side of Berlesconi.

She also said it appeared that each of the leaders were in competition to see who could hire the most beautiful law enforcement detail. She said they looked more like beauty contestants than agents...

I asked for copies of a couple of the pics.

I'm sorry, Lash, to hear about your uncle's passing -- but it's good you found at least something at his funeral you could smile about.
