It's autumn; how can I not smile?

There's a chill in the air that begins to sneak into New England right around Labor Day. It begins ever so gently and builds slowly so you hardly notice. The warm days are fewer and further between as the daylight hours dwindle. Sunsets become more glorious....or is it that we notice them more now because they're earlier in the day? The hills are on fire as once green leaves begin to shut down and fall. Before you know it the down comforter hits the bed and the furnace runs. It's time to curl up with a bowl of oatmeal and a mug of cocoa and wait for that first flake of snow......

<sigh>

Wow, TerryDoo, that was a beautiful description. I can just see it. Its quite something when someone's description succeeds in making you feel homesick for a place you've never been ... thanks <smiles>

I did it! I did it!

I used the self check-out a few minutes ago at Albertson's. So easy, so much fun. I didn't have to stand in a long line. Go me.

I've never used the self checkout. Go Jo!

Yesterday's smile was just too much. I just remembered it. Murray loves to bring me presents. It's not unusual for him to jump on my desk while I'm typing and drop his favorite toy on my keyboard. He knows this will get him a pat on the head and a good scratching under his chin. Anyhow, Freddie apparently playing "kitty see/kitty do," jumped on my desk yesterday afternoon and dropped a piece of Purina Cat Chow next to the keyboard. After receiving his thank you's and a good scratching, he ate the piece of food and jumped off the desk. I got the giggles because in all of his eight years, Freddie has never once brought me a present. Murray, on the other hand....let's just say I'm happy we don't have mice.

I went to see The Terminal ... I know critics thought it was fluff, and it was - probably wont remember much of it later - but it did made me smile. Quite a few times, and afterwards too.

Plus, what made me smile was when he finally opens that tin, halfway through the movie, and what do you know, out comes the photo ... and I saw a whole movie about that photo. A documentary, a few years ago, A Great Day in Harlem, it was fascinating.

In fact, just last month I read an article about it. The photographer was quoted as saying that he, standing there on the other side of the street, making the picture while all those Greats gathered together, hugged and joked in this once-in-a-century reunion, had felt more lonely than he ever had ...

Its a trippy world, the more you know the more cross-connections, like there's actually a meaning to it all.

Terry, that is hysterical. ...as if your cat ever planned on sharing the kibble she brought over. My dog kinda does that. I say go bring me din-din! She goes and gets a kibble and puts it in my hand. Then if I pretend to eat it, she starts digging at my leg until I spit it back out. Yes, I put kibble in my mouth. Not bad if you don't swallow. Wink

nimh, I want to see The Terminal. I was disappointed to hear the bad reviews. I hope this new Tom Hanks movie (Christmas -animated one) is good.

You know that this is actually a true story?

Well, not exactly Thok. It is very loosely based on the true story of an Iranian who's been stuck at a Paris airport, I believe, since 1988 or something. But Spielberg basically only took the basic given (foreigner ends up in a "crack" of the system, gets stuck at an airport) and otherwise thought up a whole new story around it. But he did pay the Iranian a nice sum to sign a guarantee that he wouldnt sell his life story to any other producer / filmmaker.

Walked into the office today with my new tribute to autumn hair. Since I'd had my hair cut on vacation, and had only been in a couple of days ... well, 3 of the managers didn't recognize me this morning.

Watching them realize who I was made me smile Very Happy

People don't like to have their pre-conceived notions shook up.

Beth equals shoulder length blonde hair

Beth does not equal snipped orange hair.

Oh yeah?

Very Happy Laughing Very Happy Laughing Very Happy

Just wait til Halloween. I'll get 'em again.

I'm so jealous of women in such kinda things. You just dont get away with stuff like that as a man. Well, not unless you work in fashion or some hip graphic design studio or at some club or anything like that.

I dyed my hair blue almost two years ago - after that it was peroxide blonde for a while (because to get it blue, you first gotta bleach it). I still get remarks about that - my boss wasnt anything like happy bout it. Pity, otherwise I would so do it some hard-red/orange/pink or something like that right now ...

Gotta come work with me, nimh. Even though I work in a very conservative industry now, I've found a company that is quite open to all sorts of things. There's a young woman who joined us recently - at least a dozen piercings that we've seen - close to a dozen tattoos that we can see - and her hair is dyed in horizontal red, black and blonde bands. We've got fellas with some interesting looks as well. Gotta love a place like this.

I actually quite like haircuts - I have this new hairdresser, the way he washes your hair is like a massage - nice.

Its the obligatory conversation stuff I find bothersome. Every now and then it'll actually be mildly interesting, but mostly I wished I could just be hairdressed (whats the verb?) in silence, since that's nice enough in itself. But if it is all silent, I feel awkward about that again. Hm.

I'm actually thinking of finding a new hairdresser again, because this one does a nice cut and a better wash, but he really doesn't get any of the kind of conversation I'd drift into, which makes me feel like I'm weird.
