Late again on topic! I am sticking with the title question of what foreign countries think of our election.

I am an American. I foot the tax bill to support our government, like every other American tax payer. Since when do I need or want the approval of any foreigner to tell me what right or wrong with this country? They don't pay taxes here! They don't live here!

Americans do not need approval from any foreigner for our choices.

Who said anything about needing or seeking their approval? Read the title of the thread again.

Holy cow - cobalt8, please speak for yourself and stop bandying about what you percieve is the thinking for a whole country.

And, if you think that the government doesn't control the media here in either a direct or indirect manner, you're not reading between the lines.

Wildflower, if I treat a friend to dinner is it ok to tell her what to order, how to eat, what to say and then spit in her food? Should I tell her off when she says something about how rude and disgusting I'm being?

Lol - 'k - the ABC is government FUNDED - not controlled - (though the current ultra-conservative government is breaking a long tradition by attempting to do so) - in a small country, it has long been a shining beacon of integrity and fine research, as well as a cultural icon.

It has always pissed off conservatives and progressives equally - a telling and positive point, I believe.

If the Liberal (conservative) government finally succeeds in destroying it - they are vandals and philistines par excellence.

They will likely have a damned good try this term.

I believe that the BBC operates in the same way as the ABC, and they seem to do a pretty good job of exposing sleaze and corruption on both sides of the House.

Wildflower - you are free to spout such stuff when your government stops interfering in other countries' affairs. Until then, the world has every right to comment on America's affairs.

You do but show your great ignorance.

Oh lord, I thought the one obnoxious American we had visit was bad enough took us 4 days to get rid of him. Who left the door open? Well Wildflower that is not exactly true 16% of the US federal tax collections comes from import fees. Since Australia imports into your Country, than yes Australia pays taxes. By the way my absintee ballot never showed up. Northern Kentucky I see which is north of the Mason Dixon Line no wonder your so rude. It is not an excuse just an explanation.

Let us review you lied about the taxes, you failed to let a taxpayer legally vote, your rude, and your here. I know some great Indiana/Kentucky jokes mostly pertaining to your sister want to hear them.

What a coincidence! Cobalts 6 and 8 have the same pattern of rudimentary spelling and sentence construction.

Can we create a forum where they/he/she can play with themselves? Without us watching, of course...

I heard a grab from Arundhati Roy on triple J this morning, something like "The US election is like a competition to see who can be the best CEO of the country, there is no real choice at all"
