Here ya go, ehBeth, this oughtta help: A Good Overview of Northern Wisconsin Tourism Offerings
If had a better idea of what you were plannin' for a driving route I'd be more specific ... but bear in mind that Wisconsin is pretty big. Lots of neat stuff isn't conveniently close to other neat stuff.

Soz ... how many folks do ya think we oughtta allow for? I can make reservations for a block of rooms, but we gotta hurry up.

Timber - my idea is to kind of stay close to Lake Michigan. It's the only one of the Great Lakes that I don't know well.

I was wondering about the colours - wondered if it would be too late already. Good to hear that it probably won't be.

I been all through Wicks-consin and the UP, but not since i was a liddly. Ain't been in the UP since the 1950's, ain't been in Wicks-consin since the early 1960's. I'm a git-me-outta-this-damned-city kinda boy, so i'll enjoy it wherever i go.

ehBeth's booked!!! Setanta too? (Are we actually gonna be able to get a word in edgewise if Setanta and patiodog are in the same room? Razz)

timber, what is the penalty for cancellations? I'm thinking to go ahead and reserve say 6 rooms if we have a no-penalty window. (For example, if there is no penalty for cancelling reservations up to 2 weeks beforehand.) If there is a penalty, then I guess just warn people who are interested in attending that due to homecoming weekend, booking rooms as far in advance as possible is recommended.

Hnchley's Dairy Farm is the place to be this October! Pumpkins, Cows, and corn surround you on your visit to a REAL Wisconsin dairy farm. October is the Harvest time on the farm as the farmer combines the corn, soybeans and works the ground preparing for winter. There are a lot of things to see and do on the farm in October. Dairy Tours consist of visiting the nursery to see calves, milking a cow, holding, petting and feeding barnyard animals. The farm is "small child freindly" and hosts school and group tours on weekdays and family tours on weekends. All tours are guided and include a hayride to the pumpkin patch to harvest a free pumpkin from the tens of thousands. Tour length depends on group size and questions asked while visiting, 1-2 hours is recommend. Hinchley's also hosts a corn maze, haunted barn, and have fall decorations for sale.

(I'm gathering stuff to do with the sozlet, thought I'd share here in case anyone else is interested.)

I'll get that Red Roof info, swimpy. The only reason I picked it, is that it is dog-friendly. I still don't know if Bailey and Cleo will be along for the trip, but I wanted to make sure I had a place that was cool about dogs.

sozobe, Setanta will indeed be there - that's why i keep checking menus for meatloaf

jjorge - are you sure you don't need a mid-October vacation in beautiful Wisconsin?

I sure didn't anticipate a trip to Wisconsin when I booked the vacation time. Gotta be open to the opportunites that present themselves!

sozzzzzzzzzzie - i'm loving the links. who knew madison was so interesting? not me. I am sooooooo not oriented to things in the U.S. Just think - last year I learned Tucson was west of Denver. I can't imagine what I'll learn on this trip.

Thanks jjorge ... we'll miss ya, I'm sure. You can prolly count on hearin' all about it here, though.

As far as the roomrate at The RedRoof goes, anything under $40 is good around there for a decent place. There are some indecent places, for those so inclined ... and some really expensive spots too, if you swing that way  According to their reservation desk, they expect good availability then, too. I'm registered for arrival Thurs the 16th, departure Sat the 18th

I'd love to go back there in the spring.. I haven't been back to my happiest childhood place, Evanston, since, gasp, 1967 or so. Depends on money and the date, but I'm interested.
