A Madison gathering!

IMPORTANT NOTE: What follows is what was written originally, when this was to be a gathering in Chicago. It has since become a gathering in Madison, set for October 17th, 2003. Check the last few pages of this thread for details.

The Bostonians are doing it, the Floridians are doing it, the Westerners are doing it, and while it's still way too cold for birds and bees to be doing it, let's plan an early spring get-together in Chicago!

Guthobla will quite possibly (not yet written in stone) be visiting from Germany, and would be here either the weekend of March 22nd or March 29th.

Midwesterner A2Kers/Abuzzers unite! Very Happy

Go ahead mid-westerners!
You can do it too!

"...Birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
In Spain the best upper sets do it
Lithuanians and Letts do it
The Dutch in old Amsterdam do it
Not to mention the Finns
Folks in Siam do it
Think of Siamese twins
Some Argentines, without means do it
People say in Boston even beans do it
Romantic sponges they say do it
Oysters down in Oyster Bay do it
Cold Cape Cod clams, 'gainst their wish, do it
Even lazy jellyfish do it
Electric eels, I might add, do it
Though it shocks 'em I know
Why ask if shad do it
Waiter, bring me shadroe
In shallow shoals, English soles do it
Goldfish in the privacy of bowls do it..."

Oooh! That actually sounds really good. Would be fun to include Guth, but if drawing people to Chicago at the end of March is too daunting, that's an excellent plan B.

Enjoy and don't forget the surest way to a successful gathering - mass quantities of food and beverages.

"Gathering." Such a nice Anglo-Saxon sounding word. All my old acting teachers would be most pleased.

God, wind-chill. People always trying to make things more dramatic by bringing up the wind chill. Look, we all know it's windy in Chicago, and that that wind comes from the Arcitc via Canada and Lake Michigan, but I'd bet it was a balmy day in Chicago. In fact, I bet you folks didn't even have a zero before your high temp today.

That's why I left that frozen tit of a city.

Same here. Afraid I'd kill myself if I spent one more winter there.

Chicago? Is everyone expected to bring their own machine gun, or do they issue it when you get off the plane?

Yes, roger, you are correct.
The Chamber of Commerce distributes the machine gun (sans bullets) along with the complimentary vial of crack and two ballots, pre-marked, for the democratic slate of candidates in the next city election.

They used to issue the "respect and courtesy" cards, (ala Frank Nitty in "Untouchables") until a city- wide referendum retained that perk for city residents only.

What a toddlin' town it is, and, such big shoulders too!!

Hey, sozo, I'm in!!

Ummm.. Is there any chance the snow will be gone by the time this proposed shin-dig takes place?

I need to go out to Maywood and Carroll Stream to take some pics at the local cemetarys for my genealogy files anyway. If the timing is right...

That is right, roger, you may want to call ahead to see which models they are distributing at the time to ensure the correct ammunition.

But don't worry, you can buy the booze and beer there.
