Those look a lot like Turtles!

Hey - is there any Canadian candy anyone would like me to bring along?

I think they are. Around here you see them called all sorts of things. Whatever you call them, they taste yummy.

I think my favorite Canadian sweet is http://store4.yimg.com/I/randalls_1759_73590706

but http://panhandlepremium.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/MackintoshT.jpg and http://panhandlepremium.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/CaramilkT.jpg
are pretty good too, and harder to find around here.

Well, Rowntree Mackintosh has been taken over by the multi-national giant Nestlé, but none of them is Canadian, I think! (Caramilk?)

Hi Walter! Hey, my son is moving to Germany for a year! He will be in the southern part in Rosenheim.

Hi Swimpy!

I could imagine, your son will like that region there!
(Quite different from your place, more "alpine" Laughing )

hehehe

Macintosh's toffee was what SealPoet asked me to bring along the last time I was going to the Boston zone. Caramilk and Macintosh's are on the packing list. I'll go look for the Yukon Jack as well. We'll figure out whether Setanta or I can bring it across. I know one of us can.

Oh, you can skip the Yukon Jack ... I was just funnin' with ya. That's readilly available here ... very common in liquor stores and bars. The candy, though .... that's a little harder to come by.

You should have eBeth bring along a small bag of her much touted crispy coffee candy bars . . . quite good, and something i'd imagine you've never experienced . . .

I took the short cut through Canada last year on my way to Vermont and stopped in a grocery store and was vastly amused when I saw a candy bar on the shelf that was called "Paul's Log". Is that a common Canadian candy bar? I remember laughing hysterically when I saw it and the strange glances I received from the Canadians as they watched the crazy Yank guffawing in the candy aisle. I regret now that I didn't purchase one just for a conversation piece. What do you Canadians know about this candy bar?

no Yukon Jack, then?

a bag of mixed choco and candy bars? macintosh's toffee, caramilk, coffee crisps (but you only get one if you answer the test question correctly), maybe some smarties?

Paul's Log? that sounds like a regional specialty - very maritimey.

errrrrrr - in terms of meeting - can we designate someone to collect our real names and locations and arrival times? Sozobe and timber, are you still planning to arrive sometime on Thursday? PeppermintPDog, are you going to be available to meet on Thursday, or do we collect you sometime on Friday? Swimpy - Friday. (that's about the only part I have really clear, other than my pages of travel plans and hotel reservations - and my list of 'have to pack these things').

I can collect.

We haven't decided yet when we will arrive. E.G.'s been all in a rush finishing some papers, dunno, dunno, he's now off to a conference, dunno, dunno, it depends on him when we leave, prolly won't know for a bit yet. (I long ago adjusted to not being able to make definite plans more than a week ahead of time [if that] due to the vagaries of the physics existence.)

I'll be at The Redroof late afternoon/early evening Thursday. I'll make it a point to advise the desk that inquiry referrencing A2K be directed to me. We all can exchange the necessary personal info, and clear up specifics of whens and wheres, via PM or regular email, as we all figure it out. I'm really looking forward to this.

I'll try to be there by 7, at the latest. I'll email you my cell phone number, Beth. Does anyone else have a cell phone number that I can call from the road in case I get held up?

Swimpy - i will PM you both my cell # and Setanta's. We haven't figured out yet who will have coverage in the area (we're guessing his - but both will be charged up).

timber - I am getting downright giddy. I was just speaking to hamburger and mrs. hamburger - they're in Lugano right now - and they had as many questions about this A2K trip as I did about their travels.

Looks like the peak colours in upper/mid-Wisconsin are due in the next 2 - 3 weeks. Score!

I've heard from a couple of locals that the sudden cold snap last week means our colors won't be very good this year. Not sure as to the veracity of this...

I need to look at my course syllabi re: my Thursday availability. Not sure what I've got coming up (never a far-sighted one). One thing, though -- I usually get free at noon on Thursdays, so I might be wandering the streets with nothing to do on Thursday afternoon.

I hope your locals are wrong, p-dog. I've notice today that the colors are beginning to change here. Several specimen trees are brilliantly red.
