LOL ... I lived in what was more of a hippie commune than a co-op back in the late sixties ... we had some long meetings too. I suspose we discussed stuff, but not much ever got done ... it wasn't just the back room that was smoky.

I'll prolly drive my S Blazer ... its comfortable and gets pretty good mileage. The Big Truck sucks fuel like a kid sucks sodapop. I don't use it much unless I need its cargo space, towing capacity, or ground clearance.

I was interviwed for a co-op many years ago (must have been 1972 or 73) the group had to determine if I was co-op worthy. I spent about 5 minutes with these people before I determined that THEY were not worthy of my time. Sheesh what a bunch of pompus arses!

I'd just as soon avoid 'em (though I did unwittingly interview at one -- I thought I was just looking at a room -- and was deemed uncool). I hate unanimous decisions.

You always get the one person who thinks it's cute to say, just as the motion is about to be passed, "Actually, there's something I just thought of..." Rolling Eyes

Motion? Passing?

I thought we were done with the fart threads. (A comment that might actually be germaine to a co-op discussions.)

"What," said Grampaw, "you live in a coop? Did you get rid of the chickens at least?"

This was a vegetarian co-op, with a lot of college-age guys, so farts are very germane. The people who set the table put out salt, pepper, and Beano.

i think i'll skip the visit to that particular co-op. Shocked

Bought a map of the u.s. today (i think my atlas went with Egbert when he was traded in <<sigh>> ). Started seriously looking at the driving plans. This looks very good!

What I like about the midwest is that every map is topological. Or is that topographical? At any rate, every map is a topo.

('cuz it's, like, flat, y'know...)

Nah, nice little hills in Wisconsin.

True about fish fries. Tradition. I never really cottoned to it, unless it was done by a friend with fresh-caught trout. Can look around though if you're interested.

Tell ya what, ehBeth, a fishfry sounds good ta me ... preferably at a neighborhood spot. I'll scout around some when I get there on Thursday. Usually, the fare is "All you can eat" in the smaller places ... batter fried fish (sometimes walleye, but more often perch), lemon wedges and tartar sauce, potato pancakes with sour cream and applesauce, coleslaw ... not fancy, but purty tastey!

I'll let timber do the scouting. Smile

Put it this way -- fishfries are a WISCONSIN tradition, but Madison is both of and separate from Wisconsin.* They have 'em, but it's not really a Madison thing. Madison is more weird, non-traditional, eclectic, ethnic type stuff.

*I have a friend who does a stand-up routine, talking about growing up in a town outside of Milwaukee. It's hilarious, but I commented to her afterwards that it didn't seem like Wisconsin to me. She said, "Honey, you've never lived in Wisconsin." I said, "What are you talking about?? I lived in Madison for 8 years!" "That ain't Wisconsin."

Good thing eBeth got her a map, she kept objecting to the suggestions i was a-offerin' about the drive . . . i finally understood that she planned to drive via Chicago, visit the UP, an' the go to Madison. I 'splained some things about U.S. geography to her . . .

Glad you got her sorted out on that, Set. Had some European freinds (Belgian) who planned to do like 10 or 12 cities in two weeks a couple years back, driving through the US to "Really see the places and people". They started in New York. They got as far as Chicago in their allotted two weeks. Two years later, they are still amazed by "How big the states are" ... and they never even got up to Wisconsin or Minnesota, or anywhere out West. Texas would have stunned them ... "Wecome to Texas .... Mile Marker 810"

Yup. Big, big country.

I'm not opposed to a fish fry btw, if something promising comes up, cool.

E.G. and I were trying to come up with restaurant ideas and he brought up a friend of ours who will SO know where to go. Just emailed him, will let you know what he has to say.

I'm guessing we'd have to go to a small town to find a fish fry. I'll see if I can find anything on line about it.
