I won't argue with that, a healthy population is a productive population. What's your point? Either I agree with what you think or I want everyone to die? Why are you anti-choice?

@MontereyJack,
Those who think the GOP plan to repeal and replace is a good idea better educate themselves before they go along with the GOP lies. If they don't mind paying more for less coverage, that's their choice too!

@cicerone imposter,
It couldn't be any worse than it is now, I ended up paying double for about the same coverage. I only say about the same coverage because they added coverage I won't use or need. So they have me paying more for nothing.

With the current call for healthcare reform, a call which is getting stronger by the day, we cannot afford to pull in the opposite directions. Privatization has been the bedrock for growth in a magnitude of sectors and it has been proven throughout history — however, healthcare is not one of those sectors. This is not about entitlements, nor is it about rights, it’s about a healthcare system which makes economic sense in the twenty-first century.

@hightor,
America's private health care system costs twice as much capita as the government-run systems in ALL the other first-world countries and they all deliver better health care metrics than we have done..

@McGentrix,
Give them the petrodollar and America's economy as well and they'll perform very nicely indeed. As it is America spends more on healthcare than the other G7 nations yet is the only one without UHC.

It's easy to see which is the more efficient system. Imagine what you could do with all the money given to fat cat, tax dodging ,insurance conglomerates that gets taken out of healthcare and put into bank accounts on the Cayman Islands.

@MontereyJack,
The reason medical care in the US is so costly is the simple fact that US doctors earn the most. Medical insurance is very expensive, and doctors must recoup that expense through higher fees.
In California, medical malpractice insurance can cost from $22,000 to $36,000.

@McGentrix,
In general the bigger the risk pool the more you can spread cosrs around. Which makes the US size much better. And with univerrsal membership i.e more younger and healthier in the more too you can spread the risk and lower average costs. You have it backwards,mcG.

The problem is the ACA disproved this effect. It's whole design was to get young and healthy people to pay for those who were old and sick. The young and healthy didn't buy into the program and didn't follow the plan.

This is the exact reason for having a mandate.

Your right CI. That is excessive but the average medical doctor makes $189,000 a year, while a specialist makes $285,000 on average a year profit.

@RABEL222,
My nephew is a critical care doctor in Hawaii, and earns $300,000. That was my last year of income in 1998, if I divide that by 8.

That was exactly the problem as well, since the model couldn't work on free market principles, it had to resort to a mandate, which still failed to properly fund the insurance coverage the govt was pushing for, hence the reason so many insurance companies were dropping out of the exchanges as well as exchanges and insurance co-ops were failing. You can't force people to buy something they don't want or need.
