Militias Get Reinforcements After Bundys Get Busted
Back in Oregon, the arrests have only escalated tensions. A clarion call has gone out from Oregon to militia groups and they’re heeding it. Locals told The Daily Beast they saw truckloads of new faces coming in overnight.
Ammon Bundy told his wife on the phone, people wrote on Facebook, that Finicum was lying prone with his hands extended when he was killed.
In the end, the arrests and killing changed nothing. The FBI created a martyr for militiamen nationwide and turned Ammon and Ryan Bundy into heroes for the sort of people who are so alienated and angry they think that armed resistance is the only remaining option. Those people will, if given enough time, make their way to Malheur.
The new likely leader on the refuge, Jason Patrick, is a jocular man who wears a shiny badge on his belt declaring him deputized by the Second Amendment. He’s loosely affiliated with a lot of groups, but doesn’t seem to belong to one in particular. He’s just in charge, and has been given evidence that the FBI is willing to kill him and everyone with him.
Well, that's not really what the article was "about," but their speculation (they said "likely" leader, ya know) there apparently turned out to be incorrect. Maybe there aint no leaders, just a buncha wack-ass loners, lookin to smoke some feds, eh? That would, like, ROCK, eh!?
Militia member LaVoy Finicum was shot and killed by police during a traffic stop. How he died is the cause of a lot of speculation. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola hosts of The Young Turks break it down.
Do you think the police were justified in shooting LaVoy Finicum? Let us know in the comments below.
“With his shaved head and soft voice, Robert “LaVoy” Finicum resembled a monk — albeit a monk wearing a Stetson and packing a Colt .45 pistol on his hip.
And like a monk, Finicum waxed poetic when asked earlier this month whether he was prepared to die rather than go to jail for occupying a federal wildlife refuge in rural Oregon.
“Absolutely,” he told NBC’s Tony Dokoupil on Jan. 5. “I have been raised in the country all my life. I love dearly to feel the wind on my face, to see the sun rise, to see the moon in the night. I have no intention of spending any of my days in a concrete box.”
What Oregon Militia Standoff Says About American Culture
The standoff in Oregon is heating up. Arrests have been made, and one member is dead. But what does this situation say about American culture from a historical perspective? Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola hosts of The Young Turks break it down.
Do you agree with Cenk? Let us know in the comments below.
“As law enforcement moved in on Wednesday to contain militants who have occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge for weeks, a broadcast from inside the refuge showed angry militiamen promising a “bloodbath.”
A live video feed from the DefendYourBase YouTube channel, showed several militants operating a large excavator. At least one of the militants was dressed in military-style gear and carrying a rifle.
“The media has been ordered to leave, and that means they are coming to kill us and they don’t want them to see that!” the man yelled into the camera. “They’re going to murder all of us and the media are cowards.”
“The media has been waiting for a bloodbath this whole time we’ve been here!” he exclaimed. “Now, there’s going to be one and they’re told to run? Because the feds don’t want them to know who is murdering us!”

I have no doubt the FBI recorded on film the arrest and shooting, for their own protection. We are likely to be allowed to view it, one day.

How do you know that Patrick wasn't the leader? When Patrick surrendered so did others. How many people are left in that building by now, a handful? One of them is Fry, the guy who ran the pro-Nazi website who didn't know anything about weapons, he just went to soak up the ambience.

I reckon that Finicum would be horrified at the talk of him having his hands in the air, surrendering to the FBI.

Know what's interesting in this video, besides the guy screaming at the camera? The fact that they are using the Caterpiller to put holes in the ground and build up fortifications. After this is over, for sure they are going to be stuck with a whole ton of charges, and using the government's own heavy equipment to deface property is sure to be several of them.
I just wonder if their lawyer can use that video to get them off the property defacement on the grounds of self-defense? There's no question these guys thought the FBI was coming to get them, I wonder if that's enough to at least clear them of the charges resulting from building the fortifications.
Those folks in Oregon really loved those guys, didn't they? When they were arrested, the local authorities took pains to point out that not one of the people arrested were from Oregon, lol.
BURNS, Ore. (KOIN) — The FBI removed barricades and reopened the road leading to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge near Burns on Thursday afternoon, officials confirm.
Law enforcement sources on the scene told KOIN 6 News the road blocks are being consolidated to accommodate local residents and ranchers.
There is still an ongoing operation, according to law enforcement, and people are still at the refuge. It is unclear how many people remain on the property.
KOIN 6 News is on the scene and will have more information shortly.

Oregon standoff: Holdouts offer peaceful exit but say they're 'not afraid to die'
Source: CNN
The four people who remain holed up inside the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon say they are ready to leave peacefully -- or prepared to die.
There had been five people still in the refuge, but one man left Thursday morning. One of the others inside the refuge drove the man to a checkpoint and dropped him off, Anderson said.
The four have a proposal to leave peacefully but are not afraid to die, Anderson said. They want the FBI to let them walk away and return to their home states without being arrested or confronted, Anderson said.
"We are willing to leave peacefully," he said. "If the FBI will let us leave without arrest or forcing us through the checkpoint, we will all go home."

I want world peace, an end to hunger and poverty and a personal teleportation device. I'll get some of what I want before these occupiers get any of what they want. Their hero Finicum put an end to any demands being met when he pulled down on FBI agents. In the world of stupid, Finicum's actions would easily medal in the Stupid Olympics.

Conflicting reports from the media.
UPDATE: (3:44 p.m.) OPB’s Amanda Peacher says she has seen convoys of vehicles moving in and out of the refuge for the past hour. She said it appeared that about half a hour ago a civilian was escorted out in a law enforcement vehicle past the blockade.
Peacher said officials told her at least one militant remains in the refuge. She also said she has seen medical vans arrive on the scene. But she has not heard gunfire.
“We do hear what appear to hear planes overhead,” she said.
Peacher reported that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service does plan to go into the reserve and begin rearing things once the occupation is resolved.

I'm sure they had some supporters, maybe a lot of supporters, but Oregon is the most xenophobic place I've ever seen -- even if the "foreigner" is from Idaho. If Oregonians had started this it might have been a whole different animal. We're not typically joiners. (Oregon's line in the school play? "I'm going to my room to read for a while. Please shut the door when you leave.")
Any Oregonians who might have headed out that way probably stopped to ski and partake of the microbrews in Bend and just never quite made it that far East.
