They probably meant Miami University. University of Miami is in Coral Gables, Fl.

From what I've read, "seize at gunpoint" isn't an accurate description of what's happened. I'll suspend further comment about this before continuing.

While armed, they seized federal property.

And, yes, the emergence of rightwing paramilitaries in our country is news.

@ossobuco,
You definitely have a valid point. I guess I fall on the other side due to speech issues.

To congregate in protest is a constitutional right. Except when you go armed and prepared to shoot at police.

@edgarblythe,
To demonstrate peacefully is guaranteed by our constitution. Being armed is not protected. Those demonstrators with guns better be ready to die for their 'demonstration.'

Except no one has shot at police... and you have no idea who is "prepared" to do what.

The funny part is that they occupied a cabin in the woods that happens to be a federal building, but unoccupied. Who are they're trying to scare off? In a few days they'll run out of food and water and realize that ammunition alone doesn't feed them.

Stories like these are all over foreign press and foreign social media and you don't want to know how they portray the Americans in their messages.

Dumb, dumber, dumbest should have a new superlative to address these idiots properly.

This is factually incorrect. Being armed is protected.

Why? I don't think they have done anything that warrants an automatic death sentence.

@ehBeth,
The poacher arsonists don't want any part in this protest. They are prepared to hand themselves peacefully over to their jailers.

Yes indeed you are both allow to petition the government and to be armed while you do so.

See the bill of rights for more details.

@BillRM,
So you can go with dozens other armed people in a state building, occupy it and demand a court's ruling to be withdrawn?

I prefer the procedure how it's done here (leaving aside that such would be an "Aggravated case of rioting" here).

@maxdancona,
If they shoot first, they have no protections. Why have guns to begin with? Yes, they have the right to have arms, but not to take over government property.

It was my perception, when I went to bed last night - and I have not read about it yet today - they are hoping to attract hundreds or thousands more of their kind from all over and to maintain a permanent camp.

Oregon has a self-defence law based on the castle doctrine. Okay, no-one obviously was in the buildings. But if a park ranger or another 'owner' reasonably believes that one of the intruders is about to use deadly force against him ... ? Just wondering.

@cicerone imposter,
Guns or not they have no right to take over a government property however such is not an uncommon thing to do when petitioning the government in fact American Indians did so by taking over Alcatraz of all places for 19 months.

@Walter Hinteler,
Humans with guns can result in violence. That's a fact.
