I think they were referring to putting a lock (a stop) on threads that had gotten too ugly. Once a thread is locked, no one can post. Does that help?

The more I think about it, I like the idea of structuring threads so that the tangential arguments can just spin off, leaving the central thread to continue its topical discussion. I think that could potentially spare folks a lot of migraines.

The people who responded to my posts all chose to assert, against the clear evidence and in disingenuous denial of my stated intentions, that I was attacking Andrew. Clearly I wasn't. I didn't say a single word about him, other than that I liked him.

But somehow I am causing people great pain, eh?
