Pain was pretty bad last night....done my exercises and taken my pain killers and doing better.

I have figured a compromise.

Luckily, I had not a lot of folk booked in for some reason...except Monday.

So...today, I am doing a tele-conference (cast of thousands, in a very sticky case) from home at 11.00. (Telephone, not video!)

Then physio at 2.00...then going in for a case at 3.30...but only going in to the building we see clients in, (which cuts out stairs and most of the walking) not going to the building my office is in. My emails can go to hell.

If physio says I am still supposed to rest the damn thing (and I think she will...my leg is still numb and very sore, and she wants the pain just near the disk where it belongs before she's happy for me to do a lot), then I will go in tomorrow just for a new family, and again only go to one building.

Friday......I have 2 sisters coming down from way out bush, and I had them scheduled for an hour each, plus a decent amount of time to educate and support their carers...and a kid straught after that.

So...I'll do them, and then go home.

I need to fit a doctor's visit and a cat scan in somewhere as well.

It's driving me crazy....but I have checked with not just my physio, but other sources as well, and this isn't an abnormal time for an injury of this type to take to improve.

Interestingly, I'd just read a Medscape weekly update on optimum treatment for backs, and knew to keep mobilizing....I just over-mobilised on Monday...but I have kept myself from stiffening up.

Time to do more exercises!

As for me, I'm enjoying 2 days off work. Today & tomorrow.
Very happy about this, as yesterday I was absolutely pooped at the end of the work day. Almost had to be carried out of the place! Laughing
So it is an absolute pleasure to be relaxing & doing nothing terribly urgent today. Huge, relieved smiles in Melbourne! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Oh & another reason to smile: the Diabetics Association folk arrived half an hour ago (as promised) & collected something like 10 big green garbage bags of culled clothing & a large box of kitchen items. (They're recycled by sale in op shops (thrift stores) ). So now my front veranda no longer looks like a slum scene. Pristine, it is! Very Happy
I've just sent of a protesting letter to my newspaper of choice (as is my habit Smile Wink ) & am just about to venture out & enjoy this Wednesday. Ah, this is the life! Free, free, free! Very Happy

Pissed off about work. Trying to unisolate myself (a bit). Otherwise, silent but relatively ok (for me).

I hope your letter gets published. I once had an angry letter to the editor published. Someone said something unkind and untrue (IMO) about my favorite baseball team. Wrote. Now I'm thicker-skinned. People are always saying something unkind about teams they don't root for. What ever happened to sportsmanship? Don't badmouth the opponent? Uh oh. Don't get me started.

Don't know how I managed this Confused , but I missed this yesterday, Deb. I figured you must have been in "no comment" mode. Smile Anyway, I would have responded then, if I'd known you'd posted.

Really good that you have some flexibility regarding your work commitments, but it still sounds like you're still doing way too much (including physio, etc) when, of course, you're supposed to be "resting" your poor back. Yes, I understand why this is necessary, but really I wish you didn't have do all this right now... and I hope next week's work commitments aren't piling up! But I have this feeling .... Sigh ... I have this feeling you're considered indispensable. Too bad no one else can't step in & take over your referrals for a bit & give you a clear break.

Are you managing to get much sleep, Deb? Being constantly tired, on top of coping with the rest, would make the going pretty tough.
Here's hoping there's some improvement today. Fingers crossed.

What's going on with work, Roberta? (It's OK you you don't want to talk about it because it's driving you nuts! Wink ) So what un-islolating activities have you been up to, (if you wanna share)? Smile So glad to hear you're OK, but wish you weren't still silent.

It did. It's one of a number I've written (along with many other people) in recent months about over-development & the loss of residents' rights (regarding planning decisions) in this growing (like Topsy! Shocked ) city I live in. I have a "thing" about participatory democracy, maintaining a sustainable & livable environment & citizens rights to be heard! Not one of my best efforts, but I think made my point, anyway.

In the NYT, Roberta? Unkind words were said about your favourite baseball team!!!? Shocked I'll bet you told these nasty detractors what was what! And you can get started if you want. Go for it! Smile

(Roberta, I received an "as yet undelivered" (after 4 hours) message regarding an email ! sent you last night. Said they'd keep trying to deliver. If you haven't received it by now, could you re-post your email address (might have got it wrong when I changed computers) & I'll resend.)

Nothing serious with work. I knocked myself out to meet a deadline. Then the editor "forgot" to send a messenger to pick up the package. A few other annoying things. I have a short fuse, so it doesn't take much to piss me off.

Unisolating activities: I'm gonna see a friend I haven't seen in a while. I should do more. But this is a start.

The letter I wrote was published in another NY paper. I was a teenager at the time. Don't remember what the comment was that inspired me to write. I also don't remember my response. I was irate. That I do remember.

I sent you an e-mail (a response to your message of a week ago). If that doesn't help with the e-mail problem, you could send me a PM here. (very curious)

Sad Shocked

Goodness, Deb, I'm so distraught for you!

Is there any chance, AT ALL, of just stopping work & having your treatment and allowing your poor back to recover?

But I have the feeling you are going to have no choice in this. Which might be a very good thing (no matter how much you feel work has been inconvenienced!) THIS CANNOT GO ON!!!!

Please be extra gentle with yourself, Deb. Oh I wish I could help in some way. You poor, poor possum! Sad

.... And you are NOT a wuss!!!! (Don't say that.)

Extreme pain is extreme pain. No getting away from that. It hurts like hell.

Are there any friends around who can help you through this weekend, Deb? The mundane stuff, like making sure you eat, a bit of necessary shopping, helping with the cat ...?

Jeez, deb. Give yourself a break. Pain hoits. And wuss my ass.

Please, please do what you have to do to feel better. Be a little kind to yourself. Wish I was there to help you. I'm not the most maternal type in the world, but I'd give it a shot for you.

Sighing big time.

Jeez I hate it when things like this happen, Roberta! You don't need to have a short fuse to be thoroughly pissed off!: You make the the supreme effort to meet their (probably completely unrealistic) deadline, then they conveniently forget that they've made this above-&-beyond-the-call-of -duty demand of you. A pox on your publisher!Evil or Very Mad

I hope, at the very least, it was an interesting manuscript? (But I have this feeling ......... Wink )

Not an unreasonable deadline. Just a very challenging project. (And definitely not interesting). It was hard work. I met the deadline. And then the package sat there. Phooey.
