Kicky, romans call them the Scalinata della Trinita' dei Monti, not mentioning the Spanish... or Scalinata. (I read that, don't know if true for sure.)
They were built (1723 - 1726) to avoid putting in a proposed fourth street off of piazza del Populo that would have connected to Sta. Maria Maggiore... idea was from Louis XIV's minister, Cardinal Mazzarin.... 138 travertine steps cascade with fluorishes of curves down what used to be a muddy slope.
And, at the bottom, Cafe Greco - worth a quick espresso, from my pov. (Er, that was where I finally found a bathroom when I was beyond desperate, back in the late '80's... )
Ahem, quoting from Rome Access, my fav Rome guidebook, which I bet you haven't bought yet, you baaaaad boy -
" The same establishment that Casanova wrote about in his memoirs, where, in 1743 he waited and waited for an amorous assignation with a lady-love, who never appeared. You might do better. An attractive paneled place. The sandwiches are delicious, even if the waiters are a mite supercilious. via Condotti 86, closed Sunday." (I'd rather go in there than McDonalds to find a bathroom, myself, but then I'm biased.)
Excuse me, I was off topic again...
I just wanted to repost one of Cav's gems. As a matter of fact, Cav was a gem. Here it is:
"Well, first, I would suggest going back to the monkey avatar. Second, lemme get you and my wife talking, it seems you have a lot in common. Third, remember that all your co-workers are god's creatures, and you are god, and can smite them at a moment's notice, heh heh. That should get you through. I would add a four, but I don't know if you can work drunk."

Are you part Buddhist...as in practicing detachment?

That's okay, Osso, we still love ya.
Good, then, and remember, it's a bathroom...
(you will understand the import of this later.)
Thanks sozobe and kicky. I still haven’t told as my start date is April 4th, but I plan on doing so next week.
Some one I work with just came back. She had a wonderful time. I traveled in Italy several years back (in my single days) and absolutely loved it. The food is the most incredible in the entire world. The sites indescribable. The people were also very nice. The men much too friendly.
Guess what!! I just heard that another AVP is planning on giving his notice on Tuesday as well as I. I managed to drag it out of some one. So I had to give my information to him as well especially where he will suffer as a result of my leaving. He will probably get promoted into my position though, but he has been looking elsewhere too. So far three people are planning on giving their notice next week.
Cool! How many people are in your group? Will it have a major impact if three people leave at once? I sincerely hope so.
Yes it will! Especially considering the levels the three of us are at. Two AVPs (there are four currently) – down by 50%. And one Senior – (there are currently four with one open position). In the group I head – it will be my senior and me leaving. There will only be a supervisor and four staff left working on the largest client. The four staff each has less than 4 months experience to top it off. I feel really bad for my supervisor, as he is a great guy. He will probably get my spot, as he definitely deserves it. Unfortunately he really does not want the aggravation I have.
And the kicker is I just had a conference call with my client. My a**hole boss was in it along with my supervisor. The client’s last comment was “I think linkat needs some manager level backing. This is no reflection on her, but the workload has increased by double and it really needs two managers working on it in order to give the work the detail it needs.” Nice. I mouthed – “Thank You.”
That is great. I wish it was my department.
There is only so long you can treat people like sh*t and expect them to stay. They will probably be surprised, but if they had any clue whatsoever, they really shouldn’t be. I bet by Monday morning the entire department except for my a**hole boss and his boss will know that 3 people are giving their notices this week.
Linkat, What you describe is too common; top management has no clue how to manage people, and I often wonder how they got promoted. Tyranical managers really don't understand human nature.

5 years?!!
I laugh at your 5 years and raise you 25! What more boring and meaningless work could you get than meter reading? Try having a rottweiler on your butt first thing in the morning, son, and then get back to me...

Now THAT made me laugh out loud!
Okay, yeah, that is meaningless and boring too. But I'd STILL rather do that than this!
What's the countdown at? Can't be much longer!
32 days. My heart goes pitter-patter every time I think about it.
At least with Reyn's job, he gets to walk around outside.
...even though it is purely a symbolic date, and nothing is actually going to happen on that day.
