@farmerman,
That's probably why you're still kicking around on the surface rather than six feet below it.

@tsarstepan,
In the first place, I couldn't afford it. In the second place, I'm too old with poor reaction time to be driving such a speedster.

I think drag racing is about the most imbecilic thing we do with cars, seconded only by NASCAR races where everyone just turns left.

How fast can you go in a quarter mile without blowin up? WHO CARES? Why not tie a rocket to its ass and see whether you can STOP.

It can be an interesting way of comparing different cars. Every fall a bunch of people with classic muscle cars come to the middle of Michigan and race them at a NHRA drag strip. It is interesting to see how some of the legendary muscle cars measure up against each other.

It's also interesting to watch people take extremely expensive antique cars and race them hard.

@oralloy,
we now know that there is a reasonable power expectation from just about any reciprocal engine (diesel or gas).
We can get about 325 Bhp per liter of displacement. The "muscle cars" relied primarily on displacement and even then had a functional acceleration limit (Cause basically, thats all they knew). We now have little 4 cylinder rockets that can attain a 0=60 in well under 4 seconds and do a standing quarter mile in a number that keeps lowering below 9 seconds . I can see these homemade 4 cylinder bombs with over 600 Bhp.

The story was confirmed to be bogus, but it does have the same sentiment. The phony video is entertaining.

I'll probably be flayed if my family ever catches me picking a Chevy, but:

1969 Camaro ZL1, with a numbers matching ZL1 engine.

Ideally one of the currently missing ones, just because it would be really cool if the missing ones still exist and get rediscovered.

@oralloy,
Didn't see it on the options list but mine would have to have the bumble bee stripes.
Maybe they were standard on Camaros that year?

@farmerman,
No, Camaro bumble bee stripes were on the front. Circled the whole front end.
60's era anyway. Late model bumble bee ar different, and ugly.

@Leadfoot,
did Camaro actually have a model that was called the bumble bee? (I thought Dodge had copyrighted that whole marketing concept)>
We would call a Camaro as having "racing stripes"

@farmerman,
I think you're right about the model name but the bumble bee stripe became generic. They are never called racing strips although some Camaros had those. Racing stripes are generally front to back over the top of the car. Bumble bee stripes are always circumferal around the front or rear. Always the front on Camaro.

I'd link a picture but all my attempts to do that have failed.

Here is an eBay link to a Camaro bumble bee stripe kit with pix.

Yes, and the color of the stripes (and background) denotes nationality.

United States stripes are either "white on blue" or "blue on white".

@Leadfoot,
everything I found about the "bumble bee stripes" for a Camaro were those after- market kits that were probably emulating the Chryslers.

You hqve to admit, now that weve got C fibre and Ti body tech worked out, those old "muscle" cars really look like crappy high school shop projects.(bad metal-poor fit, no QA)

I can see why I liked more "monocoquee" bodies (like the RSK and the TVR), they made the early cars look like the jelly bean shaped cars of today. Although some of the makesr are starting to delve into the world of "UGLY" again (look at the Lexus SUVs and BMW's) even Porsches have a "baby bump" . Years ago when I had one of the first porsche Boxters, I had body work done to a one year old car to get rid of that asshole tailpipe look. We put BP twin exhausts on it nd it really peeped it up besides making it look waay better.

When I owned som Merc Cougars (68's to 71's) I was pnly interested in ho well the "directional nd foldback lighting " fit the overall look. The car body was a real POS, with a constant mission of chasing rust until the car was mostly lead body fill.

Its amazing how much money one saves by NOT ******* with cars

@farmerman,
The bumble bee stripes were definitely from the factory. Note that the eBay ad says "factory correct" which is all important to some.

But I was not trying to say that the 1969 Camaro would be my all time favorite car, I was speaking from the standpoint if I were Jay Leno selecting my dream car from the mussel car era for my vast collection.

Of course the build on Detroit cars from that era was crap, still does not affect the emotional connection to those cars we felt at that time.

Say what you will, but BMW has the prettiest face of all the commodity cars and that has been true for a couple of decades. Unfortunately the driving character of the car has gone down hill. Everything except the M variants has been crap in that respect after the E90 series (2012 and later) One exception: The i8 is an intriguing and beautiful car if you can justify the price for a daily driver.

We disagree again. I think BMWs are rather "pompous appearing" for no apparent reason . We used to hill climb a 2002 and a 321. The 2002 would kick ass in its class (Despite having a shitty steering ). But the 321 never took beyond a 6th in the B Production "Touring" class.

You must be influenced by Hollywood. They always have the ass holes driving Bimmers.

Ok, now I have to ask what's your choice for prettiest/handsomest car face.
