Born on Long Island.....Dad was a NYC cop and my grandparents lived in Queens, so my sister and I spent a lot of time in the city, too.

Learn somethin new every day.

Rae-
Something regional may be afoot.
My mama is mama, and so was her mama and daddy's mama...

My daughter (15) still calls me mama.
Son (18) hasn't called me mama for a few years.
(Sniff)

Also, we have daddy's. Don't care how old we are.
(South Georgia)

I don't blame you, mikey.
Your job is not to ask why...
your job is to sit in the recliner with the remote.

Definetely a regional thing, LG.....at least, I think so. 'Mama' is something that became an endearment to me when I started baby-sitting in order to stay home with my son (in FL).

My mother was always at odds with my grandma. She talked with us, her daughters, but I'm not sure she talked with my grandma about it. Well, in october, grandma died and suddenly my mother was calling her mommy again. Ma's siblings often called grandma mommy, but I'd never heard my mother do it.

I should say, that as far as mothers and daughters go... I am a middle girl and my mother and I also have a bit of a rocky relationship. The youngest sister gets along great with ma as does my brother.

I am the second of 7 children, and I must say mom always liked my older sister best of all! At least until the two youngest came along! NO, scratch that, she always favored my older sister !!!

my youngest is spoiled rotten by ma,

first one is the most responsible in appearance,

i already got into the 2nd one, my daughter

the 3rd is always the most trouble, but i think that's true in all families,

But Rae, don't the dynamics change throughout life? Maybe Misti remembers stuff you weren't around to see. Maybe the early-on squabbles were about something resolved later in life?
