Negro Crossing Sign

Being a minority myself, I found it very offensive when this "Negro crossing" sign popped up in my neighborhood. A friend of mine saw it while I was driving him to his girlfreind's. He pointed it out and said "Watch out, you know, those things will just dart across the street." I am part black myself (although it isn't too obvious) and I was outraged. We're being treated like animals. I would expect this in the deep south. But I live continental shelf south at best. Obviously with a stronger undercurrent than I had realized.

Laugh all you want at my plight. I find nothing funny about inhuman treatment.

Even if it is for a cross walk, there doesn't need to be any caution. We know how to use crosswalks as well as the white man. This sign, to me, says "Watch out, black people don't look both ways."

OMFG! It is for the drivers, so they know to stop for pedestrians. I really thought you were kidding. How else would you draw that sign?

http://members.aol.com/rcmoeur/signman.html Scroll down and look at the sign category links, and notice how all the ones with people are drawn.

I keep hoping you say, "Gotcha! I knew that!"

I've always been bothered that negroes are pictured in degrading ways in signs, but I thought this crossed the line. I mean, I can take an example from your link.

In this construction sign a negro was chosen to do the most menial work. It's just like portraying mexicans as cleaning ladies in movies. Every cleaning lady is some sort of minority. Which is degrading, like we can't hold real jobs. Mexicans clean, and black men shovel coal. It would bother you too if you had to put up with it.

I bet he was killed by a negro who was outraged over those construction signs. And who could blame him?

ROTFLMAO!

Here's a sign from oregan, where they "don't have a problem with... black people."

what really bothers me are those "pedestrian" crossing signs, I've no reason to find fault with pedestrians unless of course they cross in front of me in which case I simply run over them. Is "pedestrian" a race or ethnicity? can they marry in Boston and do they breed? I once owned a very pedestrian coat or maybe that was Pat Nixon. Are all pedestrians republican? if so they should only walk on the right side of the road. Remember what J. Edgar Hoover said about never making left turns. Why did the pedestrian cross the road? Was St Augustine a pedestrian? Do chickens cross the yellow line when they cross the road? If this is the road to St Augustine, why am I carrying a hand-basket? Are we shoveling coal to take to New Castle? Does the yellow man caution us to watch for pedestrians? Does the red man tell us to yield to oncoming trains? Is this anyway to run a railroad? I am pretty hot-crossed now and I have 25% less buns than is legally allowable.
OK bye

Here's one from when negroes were featured as freaks in the circus.

Pedestrian is a fancy term for white people who aren't in a car. And they are always granted the right of way, over people like me, which is why we sometimes have to resort to darting across streets. It is the white man that is dehumanizing us, and turning us into criminals.
