Had you asked the question the other way around, I never would have gotten it. To be honest, I have no idea why I know it at all.
This is why I love trivia so much, rummaging around in the "attic", you never know what you will stumble across.
Which actor played Riley on The Life of Riley other than William Bendix?
I know this one but will wait for others to chime in.
I also liked one of the Waldo Binney's better than the other.
I will give the answer this evening.
And, away we go . . .
That's what I was just going to say!
Talk about an actor who could do it all!
I have a videotape of one of the last things he did...an HBO movie with Laurence Olivier called "Mr. Halpern and Mr. Johnson." It was a two-man show, and one of the best pieces of acting I've ever watched. Gleason was incomparable.
Name at least two shows played in by the male actor of Pete and Gladys.
How about M*A*S*H and Dragnet? Wasn't Pete played by Harry Morgan?
Oh, yeah. Dragnet. I forgot about that. He was also in Hec Ramsey, with Richard Boone, and December Bride, with Spring Byington. Harry Morgan.
Wasn't Pete and Gladys the show that penned the immortal line,
"Me and Gladys will sleep in the broom closet?"
All I remember was that the line was a standing joke in my family for years.
It could have come from December Bride, where Morgan played the same chracter. Gladys was denigrated constantly, but never made an actual appearance until they fleshed her for the spin=off.
Anybody know who the producers of All In the Family first considered for the role of Archie Bunker?
He has been a star for many decades. Lately, I've only seen him do a commercial.
Don't know who they first considered for Archie Bunker. I have heard that the original choice for Detective Columbo was Bing Crosby and the original choice for captain of the Enterprise (before Wm Shatner and Jeffrey Hunter) was Jack Lord.
Jack Lord was about as animated as Shatner.
Columbo would have been a whole other show with Bing.
Mickey Rooney would have made Archie Bunker a different character, too, I'm sure.
It was Mickey Rooney ? Wow...that's kind of hard to imagine, but I guess it could have worked.
When Mickey was very young he was one of the best actors I have ever seen.
The Andy Hardy period I'm somewhat familiar with. And I think he had a range that he was never given enough credit for. I can actually picture him as a very different Archie Bunker.
Before the Andy Hardy series, Mickey did Huckleberry Finn, Young Tom Edison and Boys Town. This after he had already done a series playing Mickey McGuire.
I did not really get into Andy Hardy. His radio series of that offended some big wig producers and put a big brake on his career.
