Don't forget "The Smith Family" in the early 70s. A gentle sit-com, he was some sort of police detective, & Ron Howard was his son (after Andy Griffith, before Happy Days). I think I remember having a thing for Darleen Carr as the daughter.

On the TV show, Ozzie's profession is never revealed. (Which means he probably worked for the Mafia) However, in real life Ozzie had been a bandleader. I don't know what Harriet's former career was- maybe she was the band's vocalist? but clearly she gave it up to become a housewife and mother.
Values were different in the 1950's. I remember an episode of Father Knows Best where the crisis was that the daughter decided she wanted to grow up to become a doctor. Girls of course, don't become doctors- that was unthinkable 50 years ago. Through the course of the show they were able to make her see the light, that she really would find more fulfillment as a nurse.
Harriet was the band's vocalist. I had her maiden name on the tip of my tongue - the other day.
On All in the Family, Gloria told a joke, or riddle, the gist of which was that we think male doctor. She even caught Mike on that one.
