@timur,
Mickey Mouse, Harvey, Donald Duck, Superman, Lois Lane, Batman, Robin, Spiderman, and Jesus are all fictional characters known the world over.

@cicerone imposter,
Wait, CI. Don't you first have to prove Mickey Mouse and Spiderman are not real before you can say that?

@edgarblythe,
True! At least with our comic book heroes, we know what they look like, and they're seen in comic strips and movies. Any one see a real image of god?
Paintings of Jesus are common as are the Virgin Mary. Who painted the first ones?

The earliest known picture of Jesus may prove to be from a recent discovery of about six or seven hundred years after he would have died. That's almost like being there for the last supper, ain't it?

@edgarblythe,
Yea, all this information about the bible Jesus becomes even more fictional when the bible was established in the 4th century after his supposed death, and any painting of him happened,
Quote:
when Leonardo da Vinci's late 1490s mural painting in Milan, Italy
I was privileged to have seen that painting after waiting three hours in the hot sun!

Quote:
The oldest record of the complete text survives in a Greek translation called the Septuagint, dating to the 4th century CE (Codex Sinaiticus).

From Wiki.
Quote:
Christianity in the 4th century was dominated in its early stage by Constantine the Great and the First Council of Nicaea of 325, which was the beginning of the period of the First seven Ecumenical Councils (325–787), and in its late stage by the Edict of Thessalonica of 380, which made Nicene Christianity the state church of the Roman Empire.

Jesus said:- "All in the graves shall come out , to resurrection or damnation.......Then they will go away to eternal punishment,but the righteous to eternal life" (John 5:28/29, Matt 25:46)
"Sleepers in the dust of the earth shall awake, to eternal life or contempt" (Daniel 12:2)
Let's flesh out the citations a bit:
Quote:
(John 5:28, 29) . . .Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.
Quote:
(Acts 24:14, 15) . . .; 15 and I have hope toward God, which hope these [men] themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. . .
Not atheists, Romeo. "Believers"
Quote:
(Matthew 25:44-46) . . .Then they also will answer with the words, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them with the words, ‘Truly I say to YOU, To the extent that YOU did not do it to one of these least ones, YOU did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will depart into everlasting cutting-off, but the righteous ones into everlasting life. . .
What would be the point of bringing someone back to life just to be condemned. If there were no second chance, there would be no need for second death.
Quote:
(Revelation 20:14) 14 And death and Ha′des were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire.

That's just Jehovah's Witness double-talk mate..Smile
Think it through- if God has resurrected Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, Bin Laden and assorted murderers to give them a second chance, surely you don't think they're now reformed characters living in heaven?
If that was the case heaven would be like a Monty Python sketch with your next door neighbours Jack the Ripper on one side, and Bonnie and Clyde on the other..Smile

@Romeo Fabulini,
No, I have no religious bone in my body, but I do enjoy looking at churches, cathedrals, temples, and other holy places that man has constructed. I also enjoy the art of the great artists such as Leonardo (Last Supper), Michelangelo (David), all manners of cultural arts, the impressionist painters, Miro, Degas, and most kinds of music. I find that the religions of the world have created some architectural master pieces, and once stepping inside the Vatican is an experience one never forgets for the rest of his/her life. I've been to Bethlehem to see the spot where Jesus is supposed to have been born, and the Holy Sepechure where he was crucified and entombed. I've been fortunate in being able to travel the world to see many of the UNICEF World Heritage Sites including most recently Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom (my second visit), many of the natural wonders, and many of the world's most famous museums.

All my siblings are christians married to christians, but I'm an atheist. I just enjoy human creation and the natural wonders of the world. I've traveled the equivalent of about 30 times around this planet, to over 200 countries and 89 unique ones. I just enjoy life.

Beautiful. ci. I envy that you have seen it.

And I agree with you about the Vatican. It is awe inspiring. And the fact that I actually served Mass in St. Peter's Basilica is still one of the highest points of my life.

Nice pic mate; Jesus said to his pals at the table-
"I tell you, I will not drink wine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom." (Matt 26:29)

That's me out then, i don't drink (sniffle)..

What a nonsense, jesus is just a symbol and there are many many many before him who died on a cross, resurrected, birn of a virgin, and so on and so forth.
Furthermore, ANY tale yo find in the bilble you can find in the older pagan religions. Thousand of years before the 'so called jesus.

He reprents a SYMBOL, hence he isn't unique at all.

remember this:

Quote:
Pope Leo X "It has served us well, this myth of Christ"

And about the Corleone family, well, if you compare jesus to them?

I have to laugh.

Someday you have to free yourself of this nonsense.
and 'love me like a brother' !? Come on, you don't even know me well enough.

Based on the best-selling religious studies book by Joseph Atwill, this documentary shows that Jesus is not a historical figure, the events of Jesus' life were based on a Roman military campaign, his supposed second coming refers to an event that already occurred, and the Gospels were written by a family of Caesars who left us documents to prove it.

So, **** the Corleone family!!! Wink

They weren't supposed too! They could 'spill the beans' so to say that brother jesus wasn't unique, so the catholic religion could be used to manipulate and kill people! Like a nice headmaster! Wink

if you kill enough people who think otherwise about the jesus nonsense, well, then you can keep the people who do believe in that crap.
Hence the inquisition and what have you.

But they are known, but they are also just symbols for something, and they all refer to the same symbol.
