There are millions of possibilities for confusion and the vast vast majority never happen, Jack. That's cause language has context. 'bimonthly' has two meanings, 'get' has what, hundreds?

Regardless, Om was wrong, as he so often is when it comes to language.

Should everyone who comes here learn English? Yes, absolutely. But should they forget their native language and heritage? No, absolutely.

I think it was a beautiful example of what American is suppose to be about. Multi cultured.... and full of sugar.

I think it would be grand if non English speakers who come to America would learn our language. But it is not always a necessity for them, particularly if they are, say, Vietnamese living in a Houston Vietnamese settlement. They live there and contribute in their own way and never meet an English speaker at all, in some cases. I find it hard to fault them.

I agree 100% edgar.

Also, I don't find it necessary for let's say the elderly who have come here to live with their relatives. Especially if they have a strong family system, as well as access in their communities to other seniors they can form friendships with. If they want to learn, great. But if they don't, or find it too difficult, their happiness is more important.

I too agree. Yet, I would not go out of my way as a Nation to provide translation services for any non english speaking person.
