Is There Any Chance Christie Did NOT Know About the Dirty Tricks?

@Finn dAbuzz,
It is a fact that, once the full story of the IRS's reviews and audits of 501 c-4's became fully known, FOX dropped the story like a hot turd.
They realized that their story about "targeting" only conservative groups was actually a bald-faced lie.

@farmerman,
I think I probably watch Fox more than you do. We don't agree.

If you insist on defining "liberal" as anyone who is not a Tea Party nutcase, about 70 percent of Americans are liberals.

I believe him when he says he didn't know about it. I could be wrong, but for now there is no real evidence to suggest he is lying.

I am disappointed that it appears that his aides weren't certain that he would never tolerate a deed like this, and therefore never attempt it, but maybe they were and just thought they would never be found out. Irrespective of his reaction to the stunt, they were, obviously, stupidly arrogant enough to think they would never never be found out. His reaction is only part of the trouble they are in.

How do people in positions of power develop this sort of disconnection with reality? Even if one assumes that they were just doing something they thought was in keeping with the bullying ways of their boss, they had to know (if they gave it one minute of serious thought) that revelation of their misdeeds could seriously damage the political aspirations of their boss.

How did anyone at the IRS not only think it was OK to target conservative groups but that someone up the chain would be pleased with their actions?

How did the president of the United States come to think that it would be OK to blatantly lie to the American people about keeping their plans and doctors...period?

These people are the government.

When you say that O lied about people being able to keep their old health plans, are you ignorant or a liar? This is written in the law. What happened is that companies are not keeping the old plans because they want new insureds, who would be entitled to Ocare benefits. O lacks the power to make insurance companies keep the old plans. Thus, there was no lie.

I think it has pretty much been established that the IRS DID NOT just target conservative groups...but many kinds of groups.

You had a terrific post going here...but this sentence should not have been included.

You persist in lying about the IRS fiasco. Have you no shame?

and the only people who think that this whole brouhaha resulted from rank managerial incompetence is just about everybody who has looked closely at the matter. The story that government can not be trusted to get work done right is told by which side?

Nice try, Finn...but that apparently is not so.

The "IRS targeted conservative groups" has pretty much been debunked.

But, if conservatives want to think that...I say...let 'em.

I guess this will put an end to this RINO 's presidential ambitions.
That 's a good thing.

In the terrific HBO series The Newsroom, protagonist Will McAvoy is asked by a Republican srategist, “Do you call yourself a Republican so you can make a claim to credibility when you attack the GOP?”

He responds:

"No, I call myself a Republican because I am one.
I believe in market solutions and common sense realities and the necessity to defend ourselves against a dangerous world and that’s about it.
The problem is now I have to be homophobic.
I have to count the number to times people go to church.
I have to deny facts and think scientific research is a long con.
I have to think poor people are getting a sweet ride.
And I have to have such a stunning inferiority complex that I fear education and intellect…in the 21st century.
But most of all, the biggest new requirement, really the only requirement is that I have to hate Democrats.
And I have to hate Chris Christie for not spitting on the president when he got off of Air Force One.
The two-party system is crucial to the whole operation. There is honor in being the loyal opposition. And I’m a Republican for the same reasons you are."

David, you and others like you call the McAvoy character a Republican In Name Only apparently because he is not willing to get down into the gutter where so many Republicans now reside.

Thanks for reminding us of that.

That 's apparent to YOU, Frank: a vivid hallucination.
I reject it. I accept homosexuals & don t take account
of anyone 's attendance at any Church, etc.
I reject that leftist propaganda and I repudiate the RINO.
He 's a fake. He does not represent our principles of liberty.

Sure! Wink

A part of McAvoy's point in that monologue...(a part of Aaron Sorkin's point)...is that if you were to remove the homophobes, the haters, the anti-science "god-lovers"...the Republican conservative movement would be able to hold their annual conventions in a local Elk's Club meeting room.

All of the things McAvoy mentioned in that speech are essential to keeping the American conservative infection in existence, David.

You ought to come to grips with that.

You are better than that.

I was not referring to his physique;
I didn't think of that. I don t care.

We will fight to restore freedom
to earlier levels of existence, degrading & curtailing government.
That 's what makes the effort worth while.
It justifies the efforts of the Second and Third World Wars.

I realize that conservatives consider anyone who will not march in lock step with their conservative masters...

...is considered a D sympathizer and a liberal.

I just don't think that is the way things are, Hawk. And while I have many, many very conservative friends...I consider American conservatism to be one of the most disgusting political philosophies ever to pollute this planet. I think the grass-roots American conservative is being led around like an ox with a nose ring.

I, myself, and not a Democrat...nor a liberal.
