Yeah, David...I see.

You use "real Republicans" the way Sarah Palin used the term "real Americans."

As I said, if you Republicans ever got rid of all the haters...you would be able to hold your national convention in a small town hall.

There is a reason American conservatism is so popular among the intellectuals of the rural South!

How well do you figure the fat man is sleeping these days? It is only a matter of time before someone or some e-mail nails him for good.

About 5O or 6O years ago,
I used to be younger than now.
In my youth, I was more emotional.
I feared communist imperialism
and I hated it n those who supported it.

I have abandoned hatred. When Clinton was in office,
a lot of my friends n acquaintances were busy hating him.
I thawt that devotion of mental energy was wasted

Yea, a good part of the American Revolution began there.
Washington, Madison, Jefferson, Patrick Henry all came from there.
I came from NY. So far as I was able to see,
the love of liberty was dead from loss of interest there.
I am very happy in Florida.

Right...the reason American conservatism is so popular in the American South is because those people came from there.

C'mon, David. Get back to consciousness.

Yes; the spirit of personal liberty
has not been extinguished in the South.
Living in NY, I found no trace of it, other than the proud defiance
by the users of fireworks on the 4th of July, regardless of the law.
(That was pleasingly appropriate; the 4th of July was the repudiation of law day.)

Year after year, there was not much recognition of the principle
of Individual Liberty at the expense of government jurisdiction
which that Day commemorates, other than the Mayor hollering
about NOT setting off illegal fireworks, instead of supporting
the Spirit of the occasion. Years and decades went by and NO
politician that I can remember spoke of fighting for LIBERTY;
it was just forgotten in NY, but not in the South.
That tells me that Southerners were better Americans
than my former nabors were. I was almost alone in putting out
the Flag in celebration of Old Glory, on my block in Queens
on the 4th of July. I guess Sarah was right.

Personal liberties and the south!!!!!!!!!

You know the south where US military forces needed to be employ in our life times with fixed bayonets to allow school children of the "wrong" color to go to schools?

Where laws are still being pass to force women to have ultrasound devices place into their bodies against their wishes in order to have an abortion?

Is that the south with personal liberties you are referring to?

Like I said, David...without the racists, misogynists, and general haters...American conservatism wouldn't exercise enough influence on our nation's politics to get a needed street light erected. They and the rock-hard stupid people who back people intent on oppressing them...are the bedrock of American conservatism.

Well...this will be tough to get through to you, because you are one of the people steadying the hands of people trying to slit your throat, David...but let me give it a try by asking you to envision something...and see if that can lead you to what I am thinking when I wrote those words.

During feudal days, there were always peasants willing to stand up and defend the rights of the barons and lords to have everything...and to allow a tiny bit to trickle through to the masses. The willing peasants actually counselled other peasants to be thankful and grateful for the meager leavings...and to accept their lot as lackeys and peons...because that is what GOD decreed for them.

American conservatives are analogous to those poor, deceived, willing peasants, David.

I always find it useful to remember that every single thing that Frank Apisa ever says is without exception always an outright lie.

Many conservatives were at the core of the civil rights movement.

Too bad you feel that way, Oralloy, because I...probably like most people here in A2K...think you are a wonderful guy.

You always post such intelligent, well-conceived and well-constructed arguments...and like most people I think you are a huge benefit to the community.

My intention in posting here is not to disparage you. I'm sure in real life you're a very likable person, but your assertion is absolutely ridiculous. I'm assuming you're saying that many conservatives supported the civil rights movement of the 1950s and the early 1960s. That just isn't so, to put it mildly. I'm amazed this line would ever be seriously advanced by anyone; but, of course, those who do are counting on the historical ignorance or amnesia of others. As someone who grew up under Jim Crow in the South, I ought to know.

You got to be kidding me as is was not conservatives that went south and risk and sometime lost their lives in supporting the civil rights movement in the south.

Talk about trying to re-write history to that degree!!!!!!!

Quote:
While Birmingham's fire hoses and police dogs roiled the nation, GOP senators issued this statement in June 1963: "The Republican Members of the U.S. Senate ... reassert the basic principles of the party with respect to civil rights, and further affirm that the president, with the support of Congress, consistent with its duties as defined in the Constitution, must protect the rights of all U.S. citizens regardless of race, creed, color, or national origin."

Then they put their words into action. The 1964 Civil Rights Act passed the House with 80% of the GOP vote, compared with support from only 61% of Democrats. In the Senate, 82% of Republicans voted for it; only 69% of Democrats did. When the Voting Rights Act passed one year later, Republicans again outpaced the Democrats

Yeah...and the conservatives in the south ran the Democratic Party there.

Any assertion that the conservatives of this country contributed too the civil rights movement is insane!
