This is at least the third time I have had to school some progressive firebrand on the fact that Cruz is a US Senator, and was not elected within a district that may or may not have been gerrymandered to provide one party an advantage.

But since when do facts matter when the message is one like -minded fools have adopted?

Republicans, tea-baggers, gerrymander, racist, women-haters, greed, Christian, Neanderthals!

The upcoming election for governor in VA and the senate race in NJ is important.

Well in Virginia Democrat Terry Mcauliffe ( McAuliffe sets record-setting cash pace in Virginia) is maintaining his lead over Republican Ken Cuccinelli for governor.

In New Jersey, Cory Booker running for US senator is 10 pts ahead; the election is today and the results should be in by 9PM. I am a little worried, however.

Steve Lonegan is an extreme right-winger, anti-abortion, anti-gay, and the same list as most right wing fundamentalists. What disturbs me is New Jersey is a blue state and the choice should be an easy one between Booker and Lonegan. Yet whereas Booker was once way out front, his lead has diminished significantly, down to just 10 above his opponent. Also, this is a special election and not as many people come out to vote in an non-presidential year. Sarah Palin was here campaigning with Lonegan yesterday or was it Monday?

Corey Booker is not married and there is a rumor he is Gay. Recently he was caught tweeting a female on line with romantic overtones. Some say this was done deliberately to dispel any doubts he was Gay. But if he were tweeting a female in a romantic way, he is unmarried, so what's the harm?

The only reason I can guess as to his shrinking lead is race.....New Jersey has never had a black US senator before; other than that, what other reason could there be to not vote for someone whose ideology is exactly that of most New Jerseyans?

Ted Cruz, the loudmouth, was the main reason the government was forced to shut down, had the damn effrontery to disrespect the veterans by lying deliberately to their face. The turbulent crowd cheering him on was "trailer trash" pure and simple, with one of their group holding the confederate flag. Ugh!!! Ted Cruz is something else!

@Moment-in-Time,
I just can't wait to hear how mister Cruz is doing on the national scene? His home town now knows they made a HUGE mistake.

The republicans didn't say poo when GW Bush ran up the federal deficit BY DOUBLE with two illegal wars, and even added the Medicare drug benefit - without funding them. Now, the same republicans are crying "our deficit is too high!"

Nationally, Ted Cruz's poll rating is near 14%. That was a couple of days ago. The Texas senator has been skewed by his own and specifically veteran reporter Chuck Todd, who asked him "what planet are you living on?" When told the GOP polls were the "lowest ever" Cruz responded the polls were heavily weighed with Democrats! The fact is a significant number of Republicans DESPISE Ted Cruz, along with Independents, moderates etc. Truth be known only the perverted Tea Party care for this misplaced a-s-s-hole.

As far as Cruz's national aspirations are concerned, you might be more than correct; however among the hated tea party, Ted Cruz is "emperor."

@Moment-in-Time,
In the New Jersey US senatorial campaign, Booker is at 53% and Lonegan is at 46%; it seems Booker has lost his 10pt lead. However, the votes are still coming in and it might be a long night.

@Moment-in-Time,
New Jersey special election to replace the deceased Frank Lautenberg senatorial race has been called. Corey Booker, first New Jersey African American US Senator has won by a slim margin at 56% to Lonegan's 43%.

Welcome Senator Booker,Elect. Meet your dysfunctional US Congress!

@Moment-in-Time,
The Houston Chronicle's UN-endorsing Ted Cruz is purported to be a first. That paper is ectremely embarrassed by Cruz's highly publicized antics which has damaged the country!

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL published a scathing editorial Tuesday attacking Republican Sen. Ted Cruz for his “implausible defunding gambit” against President Barack Obama’s signature health care law, implying the Texas firebrand may be motivated by a lust for appearing on cable television.

It's disturbing that a guy like Lonegan could get 43 percent of the vote in NJ.

It does when you realize how far Booker has fallen in ratings. A few months ago, Booker was far ahead of Lonegan; in the past week, Booker had fallen to just 10 pts ahead. That drop was significant and everyone believed Booker would win by a landslide against the fundamentalist right-winger in a Blue State! Ok, I understand where you're coming from but we really expected the ultraconservative to be far behind Booker, 30 points behind.

I live in New York and New Jersey....My husband and I own a condo in the latter so I follow politics pretty closely in both. The New Jersey environment is very similar to the very blue state, New York. Booker will have to defend this seat next year and with such a small margin of victory he might attract someone else who is not an ultracontraservative but in sync with Blue New Jerseyans.....One needs a healthy landslide to fight off those who want the same seat next time around.

nite, Frank.

Why else would their Fox News allies be calling the government shutdown a "slimdown". "Slimdown" has a positive ring to it, no?

Why else would they advocate reopening parts of government?

My take on the GOP's recent actions is that they are a deliberate attempt to knock [out] huge chunks of government without ever having been given a mandate to do so.

Also, they don't want us running deficits. What better way to prevent deficits than by completely destroying our credit rating (through a default)?

Well it appears they were bluffing after all. Shocked

@Moment-in-Time,
Your math sucks. In your post before the results were known, you spoke of a ten point lead. This is a win by a 13 point lead. By any standard this a wide margin.

@Setanta,
A 13 point lead is a large margin. If translated into votes, it becomes more obvious. 13% of 100 is only 13, but 200,000 total votes, it becomes 26,000 votes....and so on.
