i agree -- mentally unstable people like waterbuoy should not be able to buy or own guns...

He definitely has some serious issues...and they are the kind that I think should be a disqualifier for gun ownership. Anger, rage, inability to stay focused, quick to lose control!

RP and I both are in a much better place than you, H2O.

If there is any "misery" going on...you are the one experiencing it.

i generally agree with this approach, but we must be mindful that in the advance of victim culture as well as with our broken medical system already over 25% of the population is deemed to be mentally ill, a number that will only go up. We also all have fresh in our minds how the soviets started the practice of slapping the label of mental illness on anyone they wanted to deprive of individual rights.

Anger, rage, inability to stay focused, quick to lose control... describes FrankA. to a T.

Keep an eye on him, and don't let your children anywhere near him, FrankA. has big time issues

I agree completely, Hawk. I certainly am not advocating getting into a situation where people are in danger of being institutionalized or socially ostracized because of minor idiosyncrasies, but there is behavior that indicates a lack of self-control or immaturity that rightfully ought to be used to disqualify people exhibiting that behavior from being able to purchase or own a gun.

This is not an easy area with which to deal...and lots of thought has to be put into it...but I would council that we should not ignore this area.

I am astonished that any report shows 25% of the population as being mentally ill.

Your inability to discuss this rationally; this constant need to demean; and the rage you seem incapable of controlling all, in my opinion, call into question your right to purchase or own a gun, H2O.

Why don't you stop it and start dealing with the discussion as a rational adult.

here you go:

Mental disorders are common in the United States and internationally. An estimated 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older — about one in four adults — suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year.

@hawkeye10,
Holy ****. That is amazing. Very sad also.

Life in the fast lane can be quite a stress, but I would hope our people can deal with it better than those figures indicate. I hope we start cleaning up our act.

Actually, it's about 30+% ... in most countries.
That number seems to be quite high ... but many 'mood disorders' weren't classified as a mental illness decades ago.

FrankA, why don't you have a seat right over there while the pharmacists fills your prescriptions.

Don't touch that!

If that kind of thing makes you happy, H2O...I guess you've got to indulge in it.

But you might think of exploring why something so juvenile would make you happy.

i noticed that a mental illness political pressure group is pushing back on calls to deprive more of the mentally ill of the right to carry, I assume not because they care about this issue but rather have a knee jerk reaction to oppose all such calls, saying that only 4% of violent acts are committed by the "seriously" mentally ill (which they decline to define)........this does not move me, I think having responsible systems in place is a good idea even if they only marginally help a particular problem, good habits are worth pursuing because they tend to produce more good habits.

He is really "out there", Walter.

Gonna go to a planetarium tonight. If they show Pluto, I'll be looking for him.
