I would not even be able to watch that video...Because I can already see how there may be some truth to it....And some people would use this to advance their positions....However, I think....And would like to believe that the majority do not think this way....

My position is there is nothing at all special about having a firearm with you over any other type of weapons that cause people to assault others.

Your position is that a knife is the same as a nuclear weapon. That is idiotic.

The government is using such a horrific and tragic event to capitalize on their political agendas.

Or that horrific event, on top of the several others in the past few years, was the tipping point that's finally made most people demand that the government finally take some action to improve gun control.

Pretty much this government's just been sitting on its hands--the ATF hasn't even had a full time director, and Obama didn't even nominate one until this week.

I see a reluctant government being pushed into action by a populace that has finally had enough of their passivity. This latest horrible tragedy was really the game-changer for most people, including most gun owners, and that's reflected in the latest polling figures.

It's the NRA and the gun manufacturers who are using any talk of gun control to advance their political and profit agenda. They've hyped the paranoia and the fear that the government's coming for the guns, and that's helped to sell lots of assault weapons--sales have zoomed since Sandy Hook--so their pockets get lined. That's the agenda that's really being advanced. Meanwhile, the government still hasn't done very much but talk, and that's all we're likely to see for a while. It's hard to see what they're really capitalizing on.

That's completely irrelevant to the issue of gun violence, and how to curb it.

Bullshit you were claiming that due to the man having a gun he ended up attacking others on the train and that he would not had done so with out that gun.

There is however nothing special about a firearm weapon over any other type of weapon that man might have been carrying be it a knife or a large screw driver.

Show up at a gun fight with a knife sometime, Bill...and we can talk about it afterwards.

Right?

Then why do you carry a gun, rather than another type of weapon, on your person? Why don't you give up your gun for another type of weapon if there is "nothing at all special about having a firearm with you "?

LOL you are assuming again I see Firefly, as who had said I only carry a gun Firefly?

My Florida CC license unlike some other states allowed me to legally carry all kinds of weapons including edge weapons concealed and sometimes I carry other weapons beside a firearm.

Police carry a mixed of weapons beside guns Firefly and I just read how a police officer in a fight over his firearm used a knife he was carrying to kill his attacker.

You know it might be helpful if you go to a range and get to at least handle firearms so you could begin to get an understand of their strength and weakness as weapons. For that matter so you would stop thinking of them in magical terms as if they was the evil ring in the lord of the ring.

They also facilitate more mass murders, and suicides, and homicides, and murder/suicides

Both home make explosives using materials found in any drug store and pool supply outlet and even a few dollars of gasoline have proven to be able to killed more people per attack then firearms.

We in fact better hope that more of the sick people who do mass murders or attempt to do mass murders do not change out to more effective means of killings groups of people then firearms.

There is no problem using means other then firearms to committed homicides and their are any numbers of people for example who had gotten away with many murders over decades by just using rat poison.

To sum up guns are not magical and they are in a lot of situation the second or third best choice to murder someone or a group of someones.

You must have pissed a lot of people off....Or you must live in a very, very dangerous area...Or be very, very paranoid...To carry guns....And all kinds of other concealed weapons on you...

This is all just very sad to actually listen too....And think is "normal"...

Or what America is....Or the way Americans should be...

How hard would it be for someone be able to kill 27 other people with one knife?

It been done with a sword as had been posted here in Japan one night and it is not hard to killed 97 people with a few gallons of gasoline and hundred plus with home make explosives and so on.

It is amusing that someone who never been around firearms in his life and proudly so can still claim to know more about what they can do more then people who had been around them for 60 years.

But I think it's quite clear that we can't have a rational discussion with an irrational person. So why bother continuing to respond to such irrational and illogical statements?

With special note of with those who know firearms and own them.

@BillRM,
I never said I have not been around them...Nor have I ever said I have never shot one either...I went to a gun club a few times...To see what everyone loves about them...And fully understand a gun...And the ramifications of owning one...I shot 189/200....20 clips...10 shots per round...And there still was nothing special about them...Nor would I ever get one....And I can speak about how deadly I think they are with knowledge about them...I said there are none in my family...And there probably won't ever be...

@spendius,
By the way I had taken note that you English had a mode of deaths category that we do not have in the US IE air guns and this is with limiting the power of such guns.

At five or so feet you might find your intestine are on the floor and that your had been gutted like a fish before you can used that gun.

But then guns are magical after all.

Not really as I tend to like to have a non-lethal weapon, for example, with me so I have more choice of dealing with a situation the same reason that police carry non-lethal weapons.

Guns are no always the best way of dealing with a threat.

I would feel sorry for an attacker that decided that he could take a firearm away from my wife and if it was the riot shotgun it would be a real task cleaning up the mess of his body fluids and tissues all over the walls and floors.

That was a bit insensitive Bill on this thread.

That's what 19 kids in the Sandy Hook classroom must have seen when the first of their classmates was executed. And 18 with the 2nd. And 17 with the 3rd. And 16 with the 4th. And 15 with the 5th. And 14 with the 6th, And 13 with the 7th. And 12 with the 8th. And 11 with the 9th. And 10 with the 10th, And 9 with the 11th. And 8 with the 12th. And 7 with the 13th. And 6 with 14th. And 5 with 15th. And 4 with the 16th. And 3 with the 17th. And 2 with the 18th. And 1 (oh my bleeding Jesus!!) with the 19th.

Read that paragraph slowly enough to take 12 minutes over it.

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the parents wished they themselves had never been born.

Newtown is different. If the science is expert enough to determine the actual order of the executions I hope the authorities have the good sense to keep it to themselves or better still not even try to determine it. Free speech and truth can take a powder.

You can't sanitise Newtown.

@BillRM,
Sometimes two large dogs are a better means of dealing with a dangerous situation such as taking money out of a teller machine that had a blind spot that someone could be on you in a fraction of a second.

I used to walk both of them up to the bank machine and feel more relax with them along then having my one hand on a gun as I take the cash out.

In fact these dogs put so good an act of wishing to tear anyone apart that came near no one would get out of their cars until I got done at the machine.

Well it is far better then not having ever had your hands on a firearm but it does not give you any real understanding of firearms.

If I've never worried about something before, quite obviously it is not going to motivate me.

I might add, if someone doesn't take me seriously, it is likely because they are suffering a serious case of discog because they can't cope with my facts.

People have rights. Guns are objects.
