@ehBeth,
Nurse Ratched seems to believe I have a virus. I had a slight fever and the chills when I woke up in the middle of the night.

I’m loaded on cough medication right now.

@spendius,
The flu shot tends to ameliorate the symptoms if someone still gets it. They can get it if they got the shot a while after flu exposure, and the shot takes some time to take effect.

There is an umbrella effect if many people get the vaccines, and not so much if we have lame brains railing against them, especially lame brains working in hospitals.

I take it you are always sarcastic in science fear.

I don't get my shot for another six days and then I gather there is a response period.
I don't need the flu.

You, on the other hand, I'd have to step back from enjoying your getting it.

@ossobuco,
Spendi thinks immunizations weaken the immune system. Now, he seems to think that getting a cold not only strengthens it, it also protects against the flu.

@roger,
Kid needs some science info. Personally, I think he works his magic as a disagreeable brat construct.

@roger,
I think I understand how he gets there, that exposure to germs works out and that germ phobia is worse.
I semi agree with him (not yet resolved).

I think I can say that I am the only one posting who actually took a virology course. But, much has been learned since then.

Yes. I am aware of the advantages though. I'm schizophrenic about science. I'm a cherry picker. And I don't like pricking sensations.

There's a case for that.

I don't recognise that. Flu protects against the flu. If anybody doesn't make it Darwin has the reason.

I didn't get the flu last year and I was NOT vaccinated. So even if I had gotten the vaccine I wouldn't have gotten the flu, so that wouldn't indicate that the vaccine was effective.

@forcesofnature,
It also wouldn't indicate that it was ineffective.

@roger,
I take it this one is relatively less effective than in other years - something like 65%, and it takes a couple of weeks to take effect, I gather. But, even if someone gets the flu post the shot, chances are good (I don't know the numbers) that the symptoms will be less onerous.

However, if most people were vaccinated, that would provide an umbrella effect for those who didn't make it to a clinic (and so on), as there would be less transmitters out there in the stores and schools.

Agree. I think it's called herd immunity.

@roger,
Yes. That's the phrase.

On another subject, I'm riled about hospital workers refusing to be vaccinated. This drives me nuts.

I'm an older person and I remember strong rules, for example, reportage on syphilis testing (and yes, I know there were false positives). I got caught in that net once myself, having a 1+ on a primary test. That scared me for a while, not that I thought I had syphilis, but that you have to report your contact(s). I already knew there were several levels on that testing, but, ugh.

Luckily, as someone who ran similar tests, I knew how questionable that 1+ result was and call the head of (man, I was a ballsy broad) infectious disease at the university, and he told me what test (of the other possible tests) to tell the clinic doc to ask for. Which came back negative.

This sounds like a diversion, but as a strong rule sort re hospital care, you don't want me running your hospital if you hope to just wear a mask and not get a flu shot.

I do not ever get a flu shot...It seems that more times then not when I have...I get sick, and when I do not get one...More times then not I do not get sick...And if I do...I usually do not get as sick as I do with the shot...Something to do with my own immune system...

@XXSpadeMasterXX,
when you got sick after the shot, was it clearly flu each time?

@XXSpadeMasterXX,
I don't have an answer as I'm not following stats, and a variety of ills are like the flu - but maybe you did have it those times. I'm sure I had the flu a bunch before flu shots were in vogue and I'm something of an allergic mess otherwise, but I think I know the differences by now.

Anyway, be well,
and

Goooo, SF.

Yes definitely....Wink Sadly though...I do not think you can catch McG...But I may be wrong...Because he needed NWE to win both games....I would now say...Thinking about it more...That if they do win, you will place second....
