@ossobuco,
Hope the complications aren't serious? Okay - understandable you're going to post less. But do let us know occasionally if you get the opportunity.

@jjorge,
"ifyouliedownwithdogsyougetyouupwithknowwhat"
You're so funny, jjorge! Good to see you.
I've never seen a runondogpoem before. . . .

Anyway - there's good and bad going on -
The vaginal infection has stopped.
The urinary tract infection is still there, with a possible other condition affecting it. One of those possibilities that would be worrisome was looked at, and, good, not happening.
She has no fever, eats well, even very well, scarf; still pretty peppy.
New culture and sensitivities being done. Still has two weeks worth of pills in the container.

Meantime, never trust that a2k person, Firefly. I've spent much of this day reading the link she murmured about in I forget which thread -
it's a complete treasure chest for people like me and you-all who like dogs, and photography, and art, and literary history, and other stuff like that.

I'm only on page 25 because I tend to look up on wiki to check info about some writers, actors, painters, etc. I'm learning stuff I never knew - did you know Toulouse Lautrec was damned good at painting dogs?

You are forewarned -
here's the link: http://literarydogs.tumblr.com/

Ok, all, I'm a mess, but I pretty much knew this from the first day I worried about all the water slurping.

I sent this to Katy's New York mom yesterday.

Turns out there are only two people that do vet ultrasound in Albuquerque, and so there was this veterinarian who has a mobile unit for ultrasound off on vacation (something like climbing for a bunch of days in Colorado), and this veterinary practice actually near Diane and me that both of us do not like (experience with Sally and later Pacco) and that probably would need payment by me first (re the whole "dog has a trust fund" business). So, I smelled they thought this guy was a good choice and went with him especially since I didn't like the other place from the past.

I talked to my vet office just as Katy was nearing finishing and not doing well on the last batch of meds, and as my vet and I had talked about from the beginning, we would look at other causes if antibios didn't work, there being a few, all fairly complicated; the vet with the ultrasound responded quickly when he got back to town, and Katy had her ultrasound today. I liked him - not a glad hander but competent and I'm sharp on that, usually. I had known this might happen from that first day, or maybe before I took her in.

Some time later, the room was dark, I was holding Katy's paws, she settled into sleep or near sleep, and it went on for what seemed like an hour. If she was semi awake I murmured little pretties to her, first by me but more suggested by the assistant, who also happened to be named Katie.

Even I wanted to pee, and my hair was tangled in my glasses but both hands were holding her paws. I could see one of her eyes. She wasn't scared, that she told me. Licks.

My vet and the vet ultra sounder talked low and neither Diane nor I could hear, both being hard of hearing, me worse, but we could see, sort of, what they were watching on a screen, an hour's (let's say, but I think I'm exaggerating, might have been way less) travel through her organs. I saw the red and blue highlights at some point.

She has bladder cancer at the neck of the urethra.
This is considered quite inoperable.

@realjohnboy,
Thanks, John.
I'm a flailing mess. I don't want her to live forever in ill health, which can't happen anyway.

Hard to talk about, me, miss blabber mouth.

@ossobuco,
Broken hearted on the first read. Broken hearted again.

Despite the brokenness, you know that you and Katy are in my heart and thoughts.

@ossobuco,
Jo, I'm so sorry to read about Katy's health issues. Hope that they can do something medically to make the quality of her life reasonable. I know that you'll do the best for her possible.

Hugs from me and Brady

@Ragman,
We talked about a lot of stuff, about pain, when and how it happens, and how I didn't want her going there. Lots of stuff, I'll probably remember more.

@Ragman,
There is an anti inflammatory that may help in the short term.
Mostly a big no, not at all.

We're (me and the vets) connected re how bad this gets (I'm a hell of an interviewer when I'm crazy) and they and I will be watching to see her not happy.

@ossobuco,
Oh osso, I'm so dreadfully sorry. So awful to think that darling Katy has cancer. Poor baby, she's been such a fighter - such a brave girl - and you've worked so hard, tirelessly, to help her. Such a battle - you have done so much, tried so desperately, given her your heart and soul in love - you couldn't have done more. I just wish there was some magical way of making it all better - for you and for dear Katy. All of my love to you both.

I was thinking a lot about your news last night.

This - Katy's happiness and comfort - really are key.

Hope you're doing all right. So hard when our fur friends are sick.

Hugs to you both.
