@ossobuco,
She sounds like a real beauty, osso.
Really hoping for Katy photographs soon.
And smart, as bright as a button!
What a stroke of luck that you two crossed each other's paths!
@roger,
You'll see her soon.
I'm going shopping for some dog items tomorrow.
@ossobuco,
That is GREAT NEWS!!! And even greater because it's an older dog!
I predict you and Katy will make each other very happy.
(You should see the grin on my face!)
@Eva,
Already seems so.
The obvious - I need her as much as she needs me.
@farmerman,
Don't you love it when a plan comes to fruition? Gotta love 'dem smart dawgs.
@ossobuco,
Congrats on the new addition. What a happy fun time that must be. May you all have many stories and fun explorations.
This is what you and roger were on about! I was hoping but I wasn't sure how metaphorical you were being.
Congratulations, this is wonderful news.
@ossobuco,
Such great news
Love the name Katy! (I would, lol).
@ossobuco,
This has put a huge smile on my face! Congrats on the new dog, I’m sure he will have a lovely home!
Thanks to all!
Update - love is still in the air.
She follows me all around, has even gotten under the computer desk (it's a painted door over some 1 x 12 shelves at both ends. She doesn't get the bell thing yet, I'll play with adjusting them. No in-house accidents though.
She's pretty good with Sit and Down, though I have to be clearer which is which to make her clearer, but oblivious to the word Stay, since she wants to follow.
We're not going out today, except to the back yard - very windy (my least favorite of all weather) plus I don't have just the right collar for her yet to be sure I can maintain a hold if she wants to bolt, say after that chihuahua type dog that gets walkies sometimes when I'm gardening in the front. I think I can handle her, but my hands aren't what they used to be in strength and her existing collar doesn't get my trust yet. I'm sort of not worried, but maybe I should be, re her strength.
How about recommendations on collars, by themselves, and collars versus chains or halters -
with Pacco, I liked the halter in addition to a collar for tags. I don't like the old choke chains or the ones with the spikey bits (Pacco had a very thick coat and I doubt they hurt him, but they also didn't work very well relative to the halter) but I've heard there are new type double chain gizmos.
On photos - ai, Chihuahua!
In 2009 I had a computer crash, made all better by a mac fixit place. I was just transitioning then to a digital camera and had enough to learn without getting into downloading photos (I have always learned technology when I have to and not before). So, it wasn't quite a bit later that I figured out that my IPhoto was gone in the crash. I searched at some point how to get it again, but it seemed like a bunch of money, and too late to rail at the mac fixit guy for not picking up on it, so I put it off.
Now today I look up getting IPhoto, and one can get updates.
It's confusing, since some are apps for Windows..
But the ones for macs aren't all that much money.
But I'm not clear re updates being enough - don't I need the original? Or do I?
I probably have the original installation disc (gads, how to just load one application?)
So I tried getting into Apple.com, and am waiting for them to send me the email that says I can get a new password.
I may have to resort to calling the mac fixit guy.
Not today.
I use one of these on my Murph. It's called a gentle leader. He's a big lug and when he sees a cat or a hare he'd drag me to my death before giving up. This works really well, and although he still tugs a bit, I can control him with no real effort.
I'd try walking Katy without it first. She might be an absolute angle with no pulling tendencies.
@Ceili,
Thanks - I've never seen anything like that. Hmmm.
@Ceili,
The gentle leaders are amazing! I remember when Morgan first got Frankie; he was never taught to walk on a leash and would drag us down the street. The leader worked like a charm!
Maybe I have heard of it - it's ringing a bell now.
@Ceili,
I thought those were used mostly for dogs with a tendency to jump on people. Maybe I'm thinking of something else.
osso, Take the kid for a walk and see how it feels.
(I'm excited once removed!) I have cats with Deb and now and dog with you. My cup runneth over.
A shepherd, no less.
Plotzing in the living room.
Yup, they'd be good for that. A normal leash is around the strongest part of a dogs body. The gentle leader goes around the dog's nose, so you don't want to yank on it because you can hurt them. If they pull or jump, their heads will turn inwards. So jumping or pulling too hard isn't as comfortable as jumping with just a normal collar and leash and they will stop.
@Roberta,
I've thought she was too hefty to wear one of Pacco's old collars - he had a good strong leather one, like new and a couple of others I kept. I'm very sentimental, as it happens. Hah, just measured, it's longer than the flimso one she's wearing. Her heft is belly heft.
Now to switch, which brings up that I know I need to update a couple of the tags soon-ist.
This makes me feel better about walking streetside.
I'll check Pacc's halter, just as an intermediate possibility, as it's expandable.
As of today, her old vet place and my vet place are in touch, records passing.
