I have noticed in a lot of cartoons they give characters love interests - Mickey Mouse has Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck has Daisy Duck, Bugs Bunny had Honey Bunny and Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck has Melissa Duck, Porky Pig has Petunia, Woody Woodpecker has Winnie, Popeye has Olive Oyl, etc., just to name a few, and these are some of the most famous examples. It is not just in Hollywood cartoons, they do it in TV cartoons and in comic books and strips. Often the love interest is just a opposite-gendered counterpart to some (main) character. Why do they find it "necessary" to give characters boyfriends or girlfriends? Why can't they be married? Most kids aren't thinking about marriage, but they shouldn't show characters THAT AREN'T MARRIED KISSING EACH OTHER OR FLIRTING WITH EACH OTHER OR WITH OTHER CHARACTERS. I am think it is inappropiate to show unmarried couples hugging each other. Hugging and kissing is a form of intimacy.
From a Christian standpoint that is bad.
They should DEPICT CHARACTERS BEING HAPPILY MARRIED - kids don't want to see their parents fight and that's something they can identify with.
I was an animation student - I am well aware of what they show to kids.
I am a Christian - I am making comics for kids. I am not going to show characters getting intimate or flirting or give characters love interests unless they are married.
MARRIED couples can hug and kiss each other on the cheek and that's as far as it will go.
Jesus didn't have a girlfriend.
@JGoldman10,
I think it is just a matter of selection to fit your premise.
Here's a list of cartoon series and characters who have not been depicted with love interests throughout the many years the series ran on television:
Crusader Rabbit
Mighty Mouse
Gumby
Heckle and Jeckle
Tom Terrific
The Ruff & Reddy Show
Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy
Felix the Cat
The Huckleberry Hound Show
The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show
Quick Draw McGraw
Mr. Magoo
Top Cat
Beany and Cecil
Magilla Gorilla
Atom Ant
@JGoldman10,
you're dissing Mary of Magdala...
@Butrflynet,
If they want to give characters love interests then
they should be married, not bf and gf.
@Rockhead,
She was Jesus' friend.
YOU ARE THE ONE BEING BLASPHEMOUS.
@JGoldman10,
a really really good friend, wouldn't you say?
you think God made him human, but left his man parts unfunctional?
some have even speculated that they were married...
Why do some people think they have to put sex in a cartoon to make it sell?
@JGoldman10,
sex
does sell.
it's like everything tastes better with bacon...
(my apologies to the muslim and hasidim readers)
@Rockhead,
It is NOT appropriate and NOT necessary if you are doing a KIDS'/FAMILY thing. That is the way SECULAR people think. I am NOT a secular person.
@JGoldman10,
so, yours won't sell.
sales aren't everything, you know...
@Rockhead,
I AM MAKING MY COMICS FROM A CHRISTIAN STANDPOINT.
UNSAVED PEOPLE DO THINGS LIKE USING SEX TO SELL CARTOONS OR COMICS.
KIDS DON'T NEED THINGS LIKE SEX IN THEIR COMICS - THEY DON'T NEED TO BE CORRUPTED.
@JGoldman10,
what are you going to use to sell yours, then...?
@Rockhead,
MORALS and GOOD CHRISTIAN VALUES.
@JGoldman10,
where will you sell them, besides at church?
@Rockhead,
I am making comics without using SEX and without things like WITCHCRAFT.
Witchcraft is evil and trying to use sex to sell comics is EVIL.
@JGoldman10,
so you are just making comics for yourself?
@Rockhead,
NO- there is not going to be any SEX or WITCHCRAFT or anything DEMONIC in my comics. There is not going to be any bfs or gfs in it either. if I give characters love interests then they will be MARRIED.
@JGoldman10,
like, arranged marriages...?
what with no dating and all...
sounds kinda mormon.
@Rockhead,
I said if there's any couples they will be MARRIED. Not bf and gf.
