Would you relieve yourself in this luxurious bathroom fixture if given the chance? Especially if it's been used by a few thousand other museum goers in a given day (and the likelihood it won't be cleaned that often).

Wonder if it's going into a Men's Room or the Ladies' Room?

Ok, look. I really don't want to brag, but....

I was once taken behind the scenes at the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History, and shown the private office that Theordore Roosevelt kept there. Teddy just happened to have a private water closet attached to this office.

That's right, I peed in Teddy Roosevelts private commode.

Not to many people can say that I'm sure. I'll bet no one else on A2K.

Since there is no such thing as the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History....

There is an American Museum of Natural History and a Metropolitan Museum of Art. Neither are related to each other.

Mass media in the information age has brought alot of crap as "art" we are indeed surrounded by it....nonetheless we never had so much true art as today the problem is that with lack of filtering there is no way of avoiding toilet creativity since everything is public and labels are a dime a dozen.

@Fil Albuquerque,
I've been aware of Cattelan but not interested enough to read articles.

My first take is 'gross', but it is possible he may not be stupid. Surely not re money, but possibly not all stupid re sensibility.

Oh I know you believe it.

It's too good a story to lie about.

It wasn't made of gold though.

I think it had a wooden seat.

Some time ago, maybe years away, I shared a painting photo on a toilet lid with Tsar, or anyone who looked at the thread. I manage not to remember it, who did it, or my response, or his.
So, close that lid. Unless you can find it.

@tsarstepan,
I'm notoriously antiperformance art. Bloody conartists. I can't stand the likes of Marina Abramović, so when I saw the headline (via Facebook), I assumed the worse.

@Lordyaswas,
Nope. It was on one of the art threads, just a post in passing. Art threads, zillions of them here, but it wasn't one of those about identifying or valuation of a work, or at least I'm guessing not - more one of those Tsar or I or someone else would start about art trends (and such).

I'll mosey over to look around and see if I can find it, one of these days when I can't stand another politics thread. The toilet lid painting wasn't even all that interesting as such, not to knock it either, just that I thought it was an amusing thing to do.

@tsarstepan,
Ah, I see a familiar name on there (besides the Sleepwalker guy's) - Barbara Kruger. I've never met her, but she's a longtime friend of a longtime friend of mine. The long time friend of mine is one of the people who got me interested in different kinds of art, widened my views, so it's one of those six degrees of separation things.

@ossobuco,
I started to look and gave up quickly as I don't know how to group my own comments on art, or Tsar's, or JLNobody's, or George's very many (I forget his username). Lightwizard, but did he change it?

I think that the lifted toilet lid was somewhat recent.

Ephemeral.
