@Finn dAbuzz,
The media is hyping this, in my opinion. NYC continues its daily lives, reflected by native New Yorkers, transplants from elsewhere in the U.S., immigrants, and illegal immigrants. The OWS is just a sideshow for the media to exploit, in my opinion.

I believe that with the continued sophistication of the digital world, capitalism will just get more complicated and will reward those that know how to utilize the system. OWS may start to look more like a group of mendicants as the winter approaches. At least Friar Tuck could await the return of Richard the Lion Hearted. What does OWS have to wait for? Free sandwiches?

@Foofie,
The media will "hype" anything that makes news that they can sell, or has that simple truth escaped you?

Simple truths do not escape Foofie!

@Builder,

The data can be bad, since there likely is a degree of the protestors that are there for "soaking up the hoopla," or they were not around to be at anti-Vietnam rallies decades ago, and this is their chance to have "activist memories" to wax nostalgic about in their senior years. The data can also reflect those that have too much time on their hands?

I don't know if anyone has been following the Nashville arrests where the judge on 2 consecutive nights released those arrested because there was no probably cause for their arrest.

It's probably going to cost the state hundreds of thousands in court costs and settlements when the suits are filed and completed. I suppose Tico will blame the protesters for those costs as well since the protesters forced the Governor to order State Troopers to violate the law.

I was thinking about the 99% concept. Does that have any more credibility than the moral majority or the silent majority?

OK, but let's let the bankers do the same, if that's the expectation.

Survive a New York winter with only what's in your building; no food deliveries, electricity, gas, water, etc.

That's really a ridiculous expectation. I don't think you've thought it through.

Neither did most of the protesters.

In the last few days these winners were offered up by 2 individuals.

"Yeah, it's cold, we'll go back home and start up again in the spring."- really? Is that your level of committing? No marches even during the cold months? And yet he wants me that I should take him seriously?

and then this one, after generators and gasoline were confiscated at Zuccotti Park: "Housing is right for all people, they can't do this to us."- I see. So, Zuccotti Park and its tents are your home? Are you paying rent?

Unfortunately Sturgis your mind, and indeed soul, is so firmly committed to 20th century concepts like capitalism and common sense that you are blind and deaf to the wisdom and truth underlying these individuals' comments.

You need to break through all that greed inflicted scar tissue on your heart and open your mind to the new way, the Way of The 99%. It's the only thing that can save this country of ours, and it can save you too!

Should we really define a movement by dumb quotes that are cherry-picked from individual members? If so, I'm sure you'll agree with me that the Tea Party is nothing but a bunch of racist morons.

It is merely an indication of lack of commitment of some, lack of focus of others, a belief/sense of entitlement of others...the list goes on. The Tea Party has a focus...it's not a sane one; but it is a focus. The Occupodders haven't set a definite agenda, ask 100 of them and there'll be near that many different ideas of what they are fighting for. Then of course the monotone responses from some (which is similar to the Tea Party) where they just babble a few dozen stock statements which have been written and placed in media venues everywhere...press them further and they are completely lost.

Well, not really; it's a couple of cherry-picked quotes, of dubious authenticity, I might add. I don't find it to be indicative of anything at all about OWS, really.

Perhaps they do NOW. At the beginning, it was as much about anger at a black man being elected as it was anything else.

Sure, you can get that when you actively search such people out. No matter what political rally you are at, I think you just described 8/10 people who you would find present. I don't understand what you are trying to prove here.

It doesn't really matter anyway - it's pretty clear that a powerful anger has been stirred up, and it isn't going away anytime soon. I'd advise ya to get used to it.

@Sturgis,
This is an ad hominem logical fallacy.

"Look, I found an idiotic protester, so all protesters must be idiotic!"

You can find idiots that are conservative, liberal, Democrat, Republican, NASCAR fans, etc. but it doesn't mean that everyone in those groups, or even a significant fraction of folks in those groups, are idiots.

@DrewDad,
In the case of the Occupodders, I find them all to be pretty much self indulgent idiots.

Let's see, park space for the public...locals can't use it. Gee, now isn't that sweet. In most protests, even in parks, others can still use the space. Wandering around town, either on a sidewalk or on a street, so pedestrian or street traffic is disrupted.
Not sure what their demands are, seriously, the majority have no idea.

I don't object to the idea of a protest, I object to the actual very real fact that the majority have no idea what they are protesting about. Add to this the hundreds, more likely thousands that are doing it because it's "cool" and "awesome". I wish an alien space ship would come along and take them away. There are only a handful of legitimate protesters, those who know why they are there and actually believe in their cause. Those few I have no problem with and am supportive of. I do not support the celebrity photo oppers, or mouthpieces who say they support them but not a one has stayed over night even in the better weather.

I don't have to prove anything, and in fact, if I did, you just did it for me. 80% either have no idea.

What evidence do you base any of these conclusions on? Have you gone down to talk to anyone at these protests?

I highly doubt it. Instead, you've read a few right-wing media articles about it, and suddenly are an expert on the whole thing.

I have no doubt that many could describe your level of analysis (if you can even call it that) to be 'self-indulgent idiocy.' You're no different than the people you despise.

I'm quite sure the 'very real fact' here is that you simply make **** up about people you don't like.

As for staying overnight, in good weather or bad: who gives a ****? Camping out is not the point of the protest. The point of the protest is to continually draw attention to the fact that our society suffers from massive inequality and the financial sector in it's current form is a danger to us all and should not be allowed to run around willy-nilly. Doesn't change things much if people go home at night and show up and protest again the next morning.
