@dlowan,
Meanwhile.....just back from vet with Viola.

Her murmur is fainter, but still there.

Vet wants to investigate as she says it is likely they will be able to do things to stave off heart problems. She's concerned because Viola's blood oxygen levels are lower than they should be and her tummy is a bit fluidy.

So...she's in on Friday for expensive investigations.

Waaaaaaaah!

Sigh.

@Rockhead,
Sigh.

Looks as though my darling little Viola Meola is pretty sick. Think cardiomyopathy.

The vet practice has been crazy today, so they haven't had time to read her results...but she has high blood pressure and other signs of major problems. They took blood today to check liver and kidneys.

Not sure what the future holds. I guess it depends how much damage has been done already and how and if she responds to treatment.

Meanwhile, now that she is home, she continues to be extremely happy and active. Currently she is full of herself because she has worked out how to get on top of the book cases in my bedroom, just like Sebastian does...and she is having a ball up there! She is camping out in the same basket he did when he first got up there.

Whatever is to come, I'll make sure she is happy for as long as she possibly can be and ensure there is no pointless suffering. And man, right now, is she ever happy! They're out on the balcony soaking up sun and just bursting with joy.

Bloody Sebastian seems to have a sore throat, though. That, ot he's turned into a Siamese. Does it never end.

@dlowan,
deb querida, Sorry to read this. On the other hand, I'm glad to know that she's happy and active today. Sigh.

What kind of treatment might be applied?

Hoping for the best.

Speaking of hearts, mine is breaking a little.

@Roberta,
Mine is too.

Not sure re treatments. Will know more when vet has analysed results and blood work comes back.

Blood pressure would be an obvious thing to target.

I have to say I'm glad go to the vet I go to. No other vet has been able to hear her murmur. Mind you, I guess we would have gone on in happy unawareness for some time. If the treatment prolongs a happy life I'm pleased...if not, who knows?

Oh no!

Just catching this -- something is a bit wonky with A2K for me, I've fiddled but haven't been able to fix it. Anyway, the upshot is that I'm missing more than usual.

Poor little Viola. How can she be so sick and then also so amazingly active and happy?

Will be awaiting results and hoping it's something maybe workable if not curable?

Big hugs to you. And some bellyrubs to her.

@sozobe,
She's almost manically happy....probably so happy to be home and bouncing back from the sedative.

Apparently it's common to seem fine.....until something major goes wrong.

Vet is already concerned she has liver or kidney damage. Buggershitpoohwee etc.

It won't be curable. I'm getting such conflicting prognoses from different sites (from a few weeks to a few years) that I'll stop looking and just go with what vet says.

I suspect it's a lottery.

@dlowan,
That's not good news. I guess that the important thing is that the kittens are happy.

I've been nannying a colleague's kidney-sick cat after work again this week. When she's happy, she's wonderfully chirpy and snuggly. When she's having an off night, it is so sad as she doesn't want to be near anyone. I feel like I have to be wildly entertaining on those nights as if that would make her feel better. <sigh>

@ehBeth,
I'm pretty devastated really. She's so bloody YOUNG.

Still, let's see what the vet can offer. Probably a bit of a lottery for her...still, it's possibly been picked up before it's done too much damage, so hopefully meds will help.

And so very lively!

It's devastating.

I'm sure you will keep her as happy as she can be, and she does seem to have a vast capacity for happiness.

@msolga,
Thank you, I'll give her a kiss...she's an extraordinarily kissy cat.

She's a bit subdued today.....too much happened yesterday for her. But she's hoeing into food.

May need to take Sebastian up.....he's been hoarse for a day and a half and it's not getting better. HE seems fine otherwise too. Probably has lung cancer, she said bitterly.

@dlowan,
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about Viola's condition. I hope it's still early and you have lots more time to enjoy her. (And vice versa.)

What's the next step with the vet?
