Kittens...especially Sebastian...are, as advertised, very keen to assist in all household tasks. Except vacuuming.

Sebastian is especially fond of washing up. This presents a difficulty since I am discouraging jumping up on kitchen benches, but, since he is on an eternal quest for things to do and prone to mischief as the sparks fly upwards if left with idle brain and paws, any activity which keeps him interested and amused is a major bonus.

He's funny....fascinated by water but hates that it is WET. He is so annoyed by the wetness that he sometimes hits thebwater...only to find that it hits back.

Viola sitting on my chest as I type.

@dlowan,
The lasar pointer has arrived.

Sebastian interested, Viola less so.

Sebastian managed to get his paw jammed in the dishwasher door when I opened it to get the knife to open the toy packet. Very upset and thought, of course, that I had meant to hurt him.

poor little thing was running away from me as his persecutor at the same time as he wanted cuddles.

Ended up under dining table and edging towards me chair by chair until he could come and be cuddled and tell me all about it.

Sometimes it feels awful to be a giant who dispenses good and ill!

@dlowan,
The wool quality is changing.

Sebastian's coat is shinier and more tightly Marcel waved. Ditto with Viola. The coats seem healthier and more ordered.

I read somewhere that their coats suffer when they aren't getting enough attention. Not sure if it's that, or they are recovering from the stress of leaving home and coming here.

Can you blame him? He already saw one cat mysteriously disappear from your household. Now he's wondering who's next: the girl with the pleasant licking style or the boy with the super-stinky poo? Hint: probably the one who got the dishwasher door slammed "accidentally" into his paw. This house is a Gulag and he knows it!

@dlowan,
I'm really enjoying your Sebastian & Viola updates, Deb.
Fascinating.
I do hope the poo situation is a bit more under control now.
Apart from the rest, you must be spending half your weekly wage on kitty litter!

@msolga,
Just curious: what are you currently calling these two little devils?
Did any of the nicknames stick?

@msolga,
Fortunately litter is cheap

The elimination torrent seems to be calming down a wee bit

I am now on a search to find some toys challenging enough to keep Sebastian amused

I am glad you are enjoying this. I was wondering if it was time to stop

Sbastian is slightly unnerving in his intensity. Such intense stares! And I am used to blue stares

Looking forward to see what you find, Deb.
I really liked that toy someone (Rocky, I think) posted a couple of days back.
The ball within the green circle contraption, which kept wizzing around, endlessly.
Seemed to keep that cat very interested!

@ossobuco,
Thanks guys....wasn't sure if anyone was interested.

Been on a toy mission.

I'll post pix of what I bought when I am on computer not iPad.

Success...at least so far.

I got something pretty similar to what rock head posted, which has attracted both of them. I also got a thing a bit like a plastic x, which attaches to a stand in the centre. You attach sticks with balls and feathers on them to the four arms, and there are two little balls running on tracks within the x, which kind of wobbles as the thing is played with, so the balls run up and down.

I hear sounds of play as I type. The balls they can't get at seem a real hit!

The nicknames at present are just standard cat love talk....

@mags314772,
I had one of those unattainable ball things. None of my cats was interested. You just can't predict these things.

Two of my three cats really liked slinkies.

Major excitement about a helium balloon with a long string. The balloon sticks to the ceiling. Cats go after the string. (Note: If you decide to try this, the string shouldn't be too low.)

A major hit with Mikey was shredded paper. He found it irresistable.

I had many, many cat toys. None generated interest for long.

Hope that ball in the circle works for you.

@Roberta,
We found something called a "cat dancer," which is a thin,curved wire with a cardboard "thingy" on the end. The cats go wild over it. You can hold it yourself, or attach it o something so they can self-amuse. My cats also love catnip and catnip-filled toys.
