@dlowan,
Glad both cats are home and happy. Cats are about as stoic is you can get when it comes to pain and illness. I guess it's a survival tactic. Show no weakness.

Glad the little guy is OK and glad Viola's heart is healing.

@Roberta,
Hmmmmmm......less angst between viola and Sebastian. Makes me wonder if Sebastian was taking his pain out on her. Just happy games today....no turning into fights.

Sebastian is an angel to medicate....just calmly swallows what he is given. Very much a surprise.!

I nearly backed into a bee swarm in the garden. Since I am likely to die if stung I am glad I didn't. Hoping they move on under their own steam!

Shocked I'm gonna be worrying about you, bunny.

As for Sebastian, you could be right re the pain. Less fighting is good.

Watch out for dem bees. Plees.

@dlowan,
good golly.

every time I check in here, there is a bloody crisis...

brake cleaner spray (from the auto parts store) makes a fine bee/wasp/hornet spray.

and if one is bold enough to use a cigarette lighter it can really turn the tide.

(insert legal liability denials here)

please be careful not to use the fire spray aboot the woolies...

@Rockhead,
I don't want to kill them! been wondering if I can guarantee myself a quick enough getaway if I hose them. It's not like they can establish a hive where they are.

@dlowan,
Perhaps you could call someone who keeps bees? I read online somewhere that beekeepers will often come out and remove them for free, and that you can find out names and numbers by checking for local clubs, and calling your local Agricultural Centre.

@vonny,
vonny's advice is definitely what you'd do here.

I just read an article on one of Toronto's urban apiarists - she moves bee colonies among her other activities. A FB friend of mine got a swarm two years ago from another farmer's property - he just posted pix of his marvellous harvest this year.

@ehBeth,
Yep...tried that. Nobody will do it for free. Seems people have all the bees they need. It'll cost $90, so I am giving them a good chance to move on by themselves, which seems reasonably likely. Hoping its warm today so they have a high degree of activity.

@dlowan,
The bees left! There's a bunch still hanging around the ficus....lost scouts, perhaps, but the swarm has departed.

@dlowan,
Excellent. (whew!)

A friend was stung multiply by a swarm of bees and nearly died. I remember that she ran to the shower, but not the results, if it helped or not. I met her some time after (she was in our neighborhood group and moved thereafter highish up in politics).

She had antidote syringes stashed at hand, at least back then, in a lot of places.

@ossobuco,
Interesting night.

Sebastian had some sort of episode and ran into my head with stunning force.

Then he leaped up onto a curtain rail.

Viola, later, decided she wanted to do curtain rails too. Did one of her lengthy, intense concentration attempts. Couldn't quite make herself do the last step of getting her back legs up there, which I was quite pleased about, as it would have been a long fall.

She's such a funny little thing.....doesn't have Sebastian's athleticism, sadly....or perhaps it's just as well!

@dlowan,
Viola STILL trying to get up courage to jump up onto curtain rod!

She DID manage to dare to walk onto my chest while I was in the bath this morning. Only stayed for a moment, but there she was, on the island of my...er...chests, surrounded by water!

@dlowan,
Disappointed at Viola's curtain rod trepidation. Go for it, goil.

Stunned that she jumped on you while you were in the tub. Too much water for most felines. She's an interesting personality.

How's by you?

@Roberta,
I have been worried about you! Good to see you post.

Long weekend here....labour day. I have just lost half a tooth and have to have the rest out.

I am glad Viola is not getting on the curtain rod....she's clumsy and it's a long fall. Even Sebastian nearly fell off!

@dlowan,
Don't worry. I'm distracted but OK.

You lost a half a tooth? Send it to me. I'll glue your half onto the half I'm missing. Good luck with the extraction.

Is there a substitute high place for Viola? Miranda used to sit on top of the hall closet door. I don't know how she did it. Patty tried but was unsuccessful. She ended up on the top of a bookcase. Not quite as high and not nearly as narrow, but it satisfied her desire to be like Miranda.

@Roberta,
Distracted by work?

Viola doesn't really have any high places that are hers. She likes the top of the big cat tree and the bathroom window sill......Sebastian can bully her out of them when he wishes.

@dlowan,
I finished all my work. Worried about getting more. I have to go to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles to get my nondrivers driver's license renewed so that I can have valid ID to get my taxes done by the IRS. Gulp.

I have a new social worker who is wonderful. She's really helping me. Knowing that I have help and someone I can depend on has lifted some of my depression. I have energy. I've been uncluttering, which in this dump is a megaproduction. It feels good.

Distraction demystified.
