@dlowan,
Meanwhile, I am thinking of a work colleague who has just had the most tragic dog experiences.

She is a true animal lover. She has been with the dearest old dog for the last fifteen years, whom she adores. Recently, she bought a boxer pup....with whom she enjoyed a connection she had only had with one other of her dogs...one she had as a child.

A couple of weeks ago she returned home to find that her lovely little boxer had injured himself and died.....not in a good way, I won't elaborate. We all know what that must have been like.

Then, the night before last, she woke at 3.00 am, and was pulled to run to her old dog, who she found dying. She died in her arms a few minutes later.

That's a better tale.....but still very sad. Helen is devastated......doesn't think she can manage another dog for some time, but is thinking of a cat.

She loves Siamese.....but I did mention a certain breed of cat which might also suit her....

@dlowan,
oh, how awful, Deb.
Poor Helen.

Probably not a good time for her to contemplate a new house critter right now.

@msolga,
Oh, you never know! Some people run right out and get another animal. Others wait years.

(It takes me awhile.)

@Eva,
I'm beginning to see why curiosity killed the cat.

I never get to do ANYTHING around here by myself. Accordingly, Viola came scampering after me when I went to the bathroom just now...in fact, she got there ahead of me. I was nearly knocked over by a little furball bounding BACKWARDS into me. She had seen an unfamiliar white nightgown on the floor from when I had a bath earlier and thought it was a dangerous and sinister intruder.

Then Sebastian decided, as I was rubbing Elmore Oil into my neck that he just HAD to have some...he jumped up and stuck his muzzle into my oily hand, eager to taste it.

Well, clearly Elmore oil is a very effective cat deterrent....he's still racing around upset by what he appears to think must have been an attempt to kill him!

@dlowan,
My sympathies to Helen. What a difficult time.

Not so sympathetic to you, bunny. Envious, in fact.

I get tired just reading of the exploits and antics of your pair! I'm sure I couldn't go through that again (although every time I see a kitten I want one!)

I have trouble enough keeping up with my 13 year old!

@margo,
gram thanked me yesterday for making her adopt molly. (the biggest cat in Kansas)

not all kittens are hell on wheels. she and gram are best pals. and she is uber mellow now at 2 years old.

I was due for a good one after bubba...

@Roberta,
Not bad.

Sebastian was vomiting big time for a couple of days.....hoping it has settled.

Viola appears to have developed an interest in gymnastics....specifically the parallel bars.

She has become absorbed with the double towel rail in the bathroom. It used to be Sebastian's domain, but he hurt himself a couple of times on the dismount and has retired from competition.

Viola took ages to get the nerve to jump up. Once up, she is practicing intently to be able to jump up, balance, walk the length of the bars, turn around without falling, walk back etc.

She got really good at it when there was no towel there for a few days. The addition of a towel and consequent slippage has presented a new challenge, but she is practicing assiduously and is getting closer and closer to her goal.

I have had them on diet kibble and they have slightly less tummy.

As for moi, I am pretty frantic at work. Very much looking forward to my massage tomorrow evening. This is a new person I have found who hurts like hell but actually seems to be making headway with my chronically knotted neck and back muscles.

Viola continues to cough occasionally....which fills me with worry.

She still regards her medication as a treat to be scoffed down with alacrity. Sebastian still thinks it horrid of me not to treat him as well.

He is rather quiet...I think he's had a bit of a bug, poor little fellow.

I was amazed to discover some knee high boots I had been seriously coveting out at half price this evening! I now have a pair resting quietly on the floor beside me.

@dlowan,
Congrats on the boot score! What do they look like?

Meanwhile, those cats continue to amaze with their intelligence. They really remind me of very smart toddlers -- always needing some sort of mental stimulation (and wreaking havoc).

@sozobe,
Poor old Sebastian vomited again....and he's way too quiet. To vet tomorrow if he's not way better. Sigh.

Boots are kind of brandy brown, almost flat, rounded toe, reach to mid knee in front, lower and black at back to make it easier to walk (the lowerness, not the colour). You can fold over the front if you want to.

The boots sound lovely!

@sozobe,
Poor Sebastian....viola is bored and has jumped on him to make him play....he sought refuge with me....so the wrestling is all over me!

He's hiding out behind my left shoulder.....Viola is cruising invisibly around the bed....like a shark you know is there but cannot see.....

@dlowan,
Heeheehee....

(Meanwhile, do you have a safe or something to lock up your new boots in? Seems like just the sort of thing the kittens would destroy. Entertainingly and adorably, but destructively.)

@sozobe,
So far they haven't eaten shoes.

Sebastian asking for more dinner. As IF!
I can't sleep and they're confused because the light is still on. Viola looks set to get on the gad if I don't start quietening things down.

Lights out!

@dlowan,
Good night!

Seems like there are options besides eating the shoes. Pooping in them, vomiting in them, knocking them under something inaccessible, using them as small scratching posts, spilling lava-lamp goo in them (whatever that stuff was).... the possibilities are endless! Very Happy

@sozobe,
They don't pooh on things!
Harrumph!

Wrong texture for scratching.

Vomiting is a possibility.....but if we let them scare us, they have won!

And that was MAGNAPLASM.

Lava lamps...the IDEA!
