@dlowan,
Good point about the money involved. I would only consider it if she were aware of the problem, and if it could prevent future occurances.

deb, a remarkably restrained letter under the circumstances--hope she does the right thing.

another way to improve (?) the quality of her life: get her involved in hip hop for cats

The Japanese cat Nao:

and her collaborator, the human beatbox Aibo

Looks life good exercise.

@dlowan,
I am struggling to make myself get up.

I am snuggled in with two extremely happy cats.

Two happy cats snuggling together and sleepily caressing each other are extraordinarily nice to be around.

Viola is gently holding Sebastian down and chewing his ear....to his exquisite delight.

Sighing from once-removed delight. Thanks for sharing that, bunny.

@Roberta,
Good grief.

Heard from breeder! She is clearly distressed....over-reacting a bit as she is talking about getting Viola's full sister, whom she kept to breed from, desexed without getting a cardiac expert to see if there is a problem.

Anyhoo, she is actually talking about re-funding Viola's purchase money....in dribs and drabs, but still.

Now I feel bad.

Good on you for standing up for your rights.

Good on her for doing the right thing.

Write her an email thanking her and reinforcing her decision. Tell her that even tho Viola is sick, she's a wonderful cat and people around the world love V and applaud the breeder's decision. We do. Tell her to get her sister examined before she makes any decision on desexing. Brave bunny.

@MontereyJack,
Already done!

Quote:
Hi Le,

Please don't panic and do something in relation to Leah that may not be
necessary at all.

As I said to you, the murmur was hard to pick up. I would suggest they your
vet simply did not hear it. Only one vet at my clinic can hear it....that
is another reason why I didn't bother you with it...the other vets couldn't
hear it so I thought the murmur must have gone.

She was definitely coughing when I got her....it's a cough which sometimes
happens a few times a day, but she can go well over a week without any
cough at all. I couldn't believe it when the vet became extremely worried
as soon as I described the symptom to her. I would imagine that the stress
of the trip likely made it worse for the first few days after she got here.

Luckily, I made sure my main vet checked her as well as the other vets, as
soon as my main vet returned from leave, because Viola was still coughing
occasionally and I understood this to be a cardiac symptom as other reasons
for it had been excluded.

Thank goodness I did, as the drugs will likely extend her happy life.

I DON'T think you should de-sex Leah without proper assessment. I'd just
have her checked by a vet who specialises in heart issues.....she may be
absolutely fine.

This could have a genetic component or it might be just Viola's bad luck.
If you like Leah and want to breed from her I think you just need to ensure
she is ok. If she is anything like Viola, she is an absolute darling.
Clearly, your vet did not pick up Viola's murmur, so I think you just need
a specialist to look at Leah and Kiki. it will likely cost more than a
normal vet visit...but if the girls are fine, you will know Viola's heart
is just sheer bad luck.

Remember also that it could have resulted from an infection when she was
tiny.

I didn't say anything when I found out because murmurs often go away, and,
although my vet was extremely concerned when she heard it, she was
concerned partly because Viola was frightened of the vet, and froze. Vet
thought she was always like that, and that she already had lethargy as a
result of her heart. I knew she didn't.

I know you wouldn't have sent Viola if you knew she was sick. I'd not have
bothered about money if it wasn't going to cost me such a lot....she'll
need regular cardiac checks as well as the expensive drugs. Sadly, my
finances aren't great.

I would not even think of asking for a refund if I were easily able to pay
these bills. I know breeders make little, if anything, from their kittens.
Despite the illness, Viola is an utterly delightful little girl and
Sebastian is the funniest, craziest little guy you could imagine.

They have a world wide fan base because I write about their antics on a web
site where friends from all over the world see and enjoy them.

It is fine to pay back slowly. I have had friends who bought kittens over
the net and never got a kitten, but never got their deposits back.

I will send you my account details.

Regards

Deb

Hey 1st she didn't have a cough when she was here.2nd I spoke to the vet
and they wouldn't have desexed her with a murmur.3rd you should've have
told me when you found out. But never the less this should not have
happened it was the first time I wentto an outside male so if you send your
bank details I will send you back your$700 but it will have to be in bits
and pieces. I'm quite upset about the wholething as you must be if I had
known she wouldn't have been sent to you in the 1st place. I am sorry about
this. Here from soon.

@dlowan,
Finally happened. Viola managed to knock down the big mirror from my dressing table....it's a huge mediaeval looking thing.

Luckily, neither she nor it were broken, but she's hiding from me because she was very scared....and also, perhaps, she thinks I did it?

Had to get a little bit of food out to get her close enough to check that she is ok. Probably lucky she didn't have heart attack!

Meanwhile, I have a scratch on my forehead from where Sebastian pounced on me this morning towake me up.

Baaaaaaaaaad kittens.

They are very bad, I agree. Smile
This is all a bit much on (what should be) a peaceful Sunday morning!

How are things with you, Deb?

@msolga,
Not bad. Desperately busy at work. Have my second pain surgery thingy on Tuesday, and have taken the rest of the week after that off in case I am wonky.

Lazing around currently when I should be doing my housework! Off to coffee and or dinner tonight.

Cats have finally settled from The Great Bedroom Disaster......Sebastian said he was suffering from intense vicarious trauma and had to be cuddled and soothed for ages.....all big eyes and nervous jumps. Then Viola slowly found the courage to venture into The Room That Attacked Her and SHE needed lots of cuddles and reassurance because she was the VICTIM. Both snoozing happily. Little do they know I am about to destroy their peace!

Which is how it should be, Deb
Fair's fair! Twisted Evil

Good luck with the surgery this Tuesday.
I'm very glad you'll be able have the rest of the week off, after. Good for you.
Attempting to return to a busy workplace would just be too hard.
Has there been much improvement since your first surgery?

@msolga,
I hope so too!

At present I am paying for my utter determination to open a toy for a kid. It was full of concentric plastic spheres, and he really wanted to play with it. The other adult couldn't pull it open, so I gave it my all.....stuffed my upper spine and neck for weeks!

How I don't know.
