After dumping my condo in CA I moved to Florida and was able to buy a little two bedroom house with a large back yard, it was a fixer upper but I was able to pay cash for it so no mortgage. It’s only been a year and a half but so far I have fixed up the outside and two rooms inside. I have a feeling it may take me another year but it’s my little home and a work in progress.

The first room I finished was my little den. The place was a mess!

@jcboy,
Huge improvement.

You've gone from sunny california to sunny florida - but still a change re humidity. Are you enjoying the tropical-ness there?

@jcboy,
Are those the original floors reworked, or new flooring?

@ossobuco,
I love it here! It’s a big change from CA and I’ve gotten use to the humidity. I live in St. Pete and it’s surrounded by water so it’s kind of like living on an island.

@ehBeth,
Those are original floors, that was a lot of work, the whole house has original hard wood floors.

@jcboy,
The floors have such a rich tone - great work saving them.

@jcboy,
How long have you been working on it? Are you doing the work yourself?

We've been in our house for about 3.5 years and we've made progress but still have a looooong way to go. It's fun but it puts our problem solving skills to work every single day.

@boomerang,
I moved in October of 09, I’ve done all the work except painting the outside and building the two pillars in the front. The first thing I did was replace all the windows with hurricane windows. I still have so much more to do. I don’t plan on remodeling the kitchen and bath myself, too much work, I have a company in mind when the time comes and I have the extra cash.

Wow, it doesn't even look like the same house. Great job on the exterior front.

Those wood floors are gorgeous.

I have to add that you have a nifty sense of style, jc. No misses that my eagle eye can detect. Not that all our stylin' is the same, but yours works. That and the workmanship look good from here.
