@JTT,

The US has not targeted civilians in the past hundred years, if ever.
We did support some bad people during the Cold War. But that was only because we were trying to stop a much greater evil and we needed their help.

There is nothing illegal about our invasion of Afghanistan. We are there as part of a just war of self defense after they came here and murdered 3,000 civilians in an unprovoked attack.
However, it is illegal for the Taliban to fire on our troops. If any of the people who downed that helicopter are captured alive, they can be tried for first-degree murder and then executed.
Also, your characterization of the Taliban as "freedom fighters" is not only false, it is a horrible injustice to their victims.
The Taliban wish to commit genocide against all non-Muslims in Afghanistan.
And even among Muslims, the Taliban demand a society where women have no rights, and are not even allowed to read. If a little girl tries to learn how to read, the prescribed Taliban punishment is to splash strong acid in her face.

The US will go home with its tail between its legs once more after having brutally slaughtered, who knows, certainly few Americans care, maybe a couple million.
It was a shame that we cut and ran after the bombing of our Marines in Beirut, but we are not about to do so again. We'll be there until we've killed everyone who we want to kill.
We may shift to the Biden plan. But if you think the Biden plan is us retreating, you are mistaken.
The Biden plan would do away with all the nation building crap, but he'd leave a sizable offensive force in Afghanistan so we can continue to slaughter our enemies there.
