Took the dogs out for a double romp today. Cleo decided the second one wasn't the most brilliant of ideas. She spend most of the time at the beach trying to get back to the car.

I haven't used my cross-country skiis since I got the dogs. No good place in downtown Toronto to ski with dogs that aren't 100% reliable (that would be Miss Cleopatra) off-leash, and I'm not at all convinced that I could ski while holding dog leads.

It started snowing again this afternoon. Nice powdery stuff.

Have fun BPB, dancing should keep you warm. (I guess I've never been to karaoke... do you dance?)

Beth, would that be reliably unreliable or unreliably reliable? I have one of each.

bailey and cleo would make good sled-dogs; they sure like to pull ! but they both have the idea that they should be pulling into opposite directions. since ehbeth got the two rascals may arms must have stretched by a couple of inches each. next time i'm at the doctor's office i think i should have my arms checked to find out if they fit my overall body measurements. hbg

Pulling can be good if they're pulling you uphill... and in the same direction.

I have seen people skiing with one dog pulling them. It looked like fun. Mush you spitzes!

My dog is a cross Bernese Mountain Dog/ border
collie....She loves to pull and is clever enough
to get out of the way when I go downhill....

Cross country skiing is the perfect antidote to
freezing temps.....Go regularly and you will
be counting the number of weekends that are
left in the season!

Shepaints -- Amazing! I met somebody this Christmas (my daughter's boyfriend's mom) who has a Bernese Mountain Dog/Border Collie cross. She said it looks like a small version of the Bernese.

Your cross-country skiing with dog sounds fun. Around here there are people who get fussy about round dog paw tracks poking in the ski tracks, but there are lots of places to go. I've never hooked myself up to a dog and gone skiing; we used to just let our dog run by the side... she had a ball.

Pifka....generally my dog runs free, and I wear
her leash around my neck. However, I have discovered that some people are very frightened of
dogs. When I see people ahead of me, especially those with little children, I put my leash on my dog. She has an instinct to pull, no doubt about it....
She's a lovely mix....the Bernese makes the
Border Collie part a little more laid back!

My chows seem to pull instinctively, but they'll let up (a little) if I fuss with them about it. That instinct is very handy walking up steep hills. Very Happy I find that a lot of people are fearful of my dogs, especially my black chow... her teeth look so big and white against that all black background. No dog is totally trustworthy, of course. Mine are mild but quite aloof. They figure strangers should stay strange. They won't take treats nor do they want to be petted by strangers, all very chow-like behavior.

If you put a photo of your dog in the gallery, please tell me, OK?

I forgot to say that we had blue sky... but now it's clouded up again. Brrrrrrrrrrrr 43F. Supposed to get up to 50 but I don't think so.

It's balmy here today, and I love it. Oddly enough, there's still a bit of snow in the parking lot. Hard to believe after all the warm weather we've been having!

Here, too, D'art...up to perhaps 50 after a few days in the 0 range. This morning I heard that the NE US may get really cold again Tues night.
I hate the cold now but when I was about half my age we (a core group of about eight of us) had a tradition of spending New Year's Eve camping in the wilderness areas of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. As it evolved over the eight or so years it lasted, girl friends later to become spouses would join. And eventually a few kids. And always a bunch of dogs who would have their own tent.
Sometimes the weather was "good" -meaning mild.
Sometimes the weather was "bad" -meaning cold and/or wet. Regardless, it sure was fun. -rjb-

That's what it is here, but I had to spend two hours at the dentist which put me late on other junk so I didn't get to run. C'mon springtime, I'm ready!

Yikies! I'm going to Florida in March, but it will even be warm here by then. On rare occasions we get a cold blast in March but usually spring is in motion.

Temps are dropping right now. The little red-headed dog is not interested in taking a sashay around the block - even with her coat on.
