Who knows the will of God? If you live in Colorado City, Arizona you know the will of God. The way to heaven is to sleep with as many little girls as possible. A child molesters dream come true. One of the Mormons, the mayor’s son, couldn’t get enough and resorted to sleeping with five of his daughters repeatedly over a ten year period. I don’t know whether God gives heaven credit for sleeping with your own flesh and blood but the towns was outraged and bought enormous pressure on the girls not to testify against their daddy. Four girls submitted to the pressure bought by the church but one brave girl testified against the letch. Dan Barlow Jr admitted he viewed his daughters as wives but the town rallied around him. The Mayor said the charges were simply religious persecution. Barlow was given a suspended sentence and apologized. “I made a mistake. I want to make it right. I am so sorry. I want to be a good person. I have raised a good family, been a good father. I love them all, fatherly love.” I wonder which daughter he will be loving tonight.

When you goggle Colorado City polygamy it returns a set of pictures one of a group of three women in bed with one man seemingly nude with the covers pulled up one of the women doesn’t appear fully grown. Every jailed pedophile in America must be envious, they went to jail for raping just one little girl and here is a whole city raping little girls every day and no one goes to jail. Religious freedom simply empowers pedophiles to do as they like as often as they like and declare it their religious freedom.

One man’s religion may be just another man’s crime. In any chain of command there must be a hierarchy. Many people recognize that the government is at top of the hierarchy but many others believe that god is at the top of the hierarchy. To be at the top of any hierarchy you first need to be real. There is not even agreement as to which god should be a higher power. You indeed can’t serve two masters. The Fundamentalist Mormons have no doubt that it is God that is at the top of the hierarchy and they just know that their God is lecherous old grandfather that sleeps with little girls. God is always a user projection. The government in meantime has laws against the sexual assault of minors even in the state of Arizona but for 60 years those laws were for the most part not enforced. The reason religious freedom. The belief that religion should grant one the power to rape children is absurd on the face of it. We all know there are limits on all freedoms including the freedom of speech for instance you cannot yell fire in a crowded theater or slander someone else. The government long ago put a stop to human sacrifice and religiously inspired murders. There must be some limits placed on religious freedom. Religious freedom should not grant the right to harm others. When you marry a 13 year old child to a 94 year old child molester you have gone way beyond religious freedom.

In Colorado City even the law are bigamists. A case was bought one sheriff deputy who had three wives. His third wife left him when she was 19 she was pregnant with her third child. She was forced to marry him at 16 it was God’s will of course. Her sister was already married to deputy dog. The deputy Ron Holmes has been charged with felony bigamy and two counts of unlawful sex. He was convicted of one count of bigamy and two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He was sentenced to one year and given work release privileges where he need only sleep in jail. Meanwhile in Colorado City child rape mill is still in operation, the accepted norm, after all it is God’s will. Holmes was given a three day pass a week after he started serving his sentence to witness the birth of his 23rd child.

The Mormons pretty much have it down, if it bleeds it breeds. When Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped few realized that it was just a Mormon exercising his freedom of religion. Brian David Mitchel was a mainstream Mormon who worked at the Salt Lake Temple for three years he decided that plural marriage was decreed by his faith. The mainstream Mormons had simply sold out when faced with the United States Army they renounced a major tenant of their faith. He believed his only path to heaven was through plural marriage he was just exercising his religious freedom. Mitchel had converted to Fundamentalism but was not part of an organized Fundamental movement so there was no one to supply him with 13 year old girls. What is a religious man to do in that situation? Go out and kidnap one of course.

Smart was kidnapped held her prisoner and raped her repeatedly. Her mother had a weak spot for holy men and had encountered Mitchel begging at a shopping center she gave him $5 and invited home to help her husband do some work around their $1.1 million home. Mitchel saw something he liked and came back for Elizabeth. As bad as that is the very same thing takes place daily in these Mormon compounds where a group of old men led by a senile 94 years old decides who to give these small children to. The rest of America stands silently by and as organized child molestation takes place and says it is simply religious freedom. A higher power has decreed these children should be molested. In biblical days the life span was much shorter and 13 year olds getting married was the norm now we recognize that a 13 year is not mature in mind or body and protect them with laws. The bible is cafeteria style the religious take what they want and disregard the rest. The bible is not the wisdom of the ages simply the wisdom of that particular time period.

The religious always say that God is the higher power even though they can say it they cannot make it a reality. It was the government that put a stop to burning people alive for having different religious beliefs. When burning people at the stake was an accepted everyday occurrence organized religion held a good deal of the political power. Government eventually took the power away from organized religion. Organized religion has not held a great deal of government power in the Western World since the dark ages. During the Dark Ages superstition and religion ruled the known world. Whether the religious will admit it or not government is the power while God rules an imaginary world that exists only in the deluded minds of the religious.

Government is the higher power and as such has a responsibility to enforce the law. The government has failed in its responsibility to enforce the laws against bigamy and child molestation in Colorado City and other Fundamentalist Mormon strong holds a jury of your peers does not entitle child molesters to a jury made up of other child molesters. There have been sporadic efforts of enforcement to give lip service to the law. The law has not only been ignored by the Mormons but it is flaunted on television and in the media. Clearly child molestation is considered an exercise in religious freedom.

Shakespeare Once said, “All the world’s a stage, all the people merely players.” That statement is more true than many of us might want to believe. We have all experienced what are popularly referred to as “drama queens.” Drama queens come in both sexes an emotionally act out far more than necessary to make their point. But many people go through life like they were part of the cast of a television drama. The religious have a script that they are expected to live their lives by reciting the same lines they go through life. The religious do not have a birth defect that deprives them access to their rational mind they make a conscious decision to live life through the lenses of their emotional minds. We know the religious have a rational mind because they quickly point out how completely absurd other religions are but when it comes to their religion they have a blind spot that functional blocks seeing the absurdities in their own religion. There are people that have a condition known as blind sight because of stroke or cerebral injury the part of optic nerve leaves a large blind spot in the person’s field of vision but experiment shows the patient is often aware of things blocked by the blind spot. All of the other pathways in the vision system are intact so the blind sighted patient may have access to the information despite of the damage to the optic nerve. The religious possess blind sight they are aware of things that are in their rational minds blind spot but like the patient with blind sight they will insist they are not there.

At this point the religious decide to take on their role and play the part despite their nagging doubts whether they decide to be a Baptist or a child molesting Mormon they believe their director is God and that he is giving them stage directions through telepathy or disembodied voices. While the religious believe wrongly that homosexuality is a choice religion is a choice. You just don’t wake up one morning and say God has told me to go out in the world and molest children. You are hiding behind religion as an excuse. I will say one thing about the Catholic Priests who molested children not one of them stood up in public and insisted it was God’s will it was their religion that made them do it.

A stroke or a brain injury cam cause damage to optic nerve and create a blind spot in a person’s vision field but what causes a blind spot in the rational mind? As people view the world religions they look at them and say how absurd. How could anybody believe such ridiculous things? Except when it comes to their own religion. A Christian would find the idea of transmigration of souls ridiculous. How could a person’s soul come back as a cow? While another might find the belief that a soul exists ridiculous A Baptist would find the Fundamentalists Mormons’ belief that child molestation is God’s will reprehensible. The rational mind’s blind spot is not created by a stroke but by culture one is raised in. Whatever the accepted religion is in a region is not questioned by the rational mind it is just accepted. If you are raised in a Mormon Fundamentalist community child molestation is the norm you accept what is the norm in your community. When the spiritual leaders not only stand up in church and recite their religious dogma but actually tell the 14 year old she will be the 93 bride of an 88 year old child molester she accepts it as God’s will. It is in her culturally created blind spot when she is a woman with children of her own she sees no problem in her 13 year old being molested by a child molester she has a blind spot just as with brain damage but her blind spot is far worse and more damaging.

A person who has a blind spot in his field of vision caused by damage to his optic nerve has a scotoma. The person with a scotoma eyes are undamaged and all the other necessary visual machinery is in place and working except the damaged portion of the optic nerve. No term has yet been developed to describe the blind spot in the rational mind that obscures the irrationality of one’s religion. I believe the term religious scotoma would adequately describe this phenomenon. Patients with a scotoma cannot see what is in their blind spot but when tested show much better than chance that they are aware of at least some things in the blind spot. It is obvious part of their visual machinery is able to convey information without the optic nerve. Strokes or brain damage cause visual scotoma but the blind spot in the rational mind is created by religion and the blind spot in the rational mind is religious specific in other words a person with a blind spot in his rational mind for Christianity would not be blinded to the fact that Hinduism is absurd.

The damage to the optic nerve is unfortunately irreversible at this time. The damage to the rational mind by religious scotoma is not physical and can be undone but the reality is that the chances are extremely small. Like the person told by another that there was help for his sister who thought she was a chicken. He thought it over carefully and told the man frankly we need the eggs. People mainlining religion think the same way they need the eggs. They may fully realize that their beliefs would not pass the smell test but religions are social organizations that provide social support to their members, their eggs. A wife who is being beaten and abused will often stay in the marriage because she needs the eggs she focuses on the home and support. She may live in a nice house in a good neighborhood and realize if she divorced him she would loss her lifestyle, her eggs.

A person with a scotoma has physical damage that cannot be reversed but a person with religious scotoma blind spot is voluntary and must be constantly be maintained. It is unlikely a patient physical scotoma blind spot will grow without another stroke or more brain damage but religious scotoma must grow throughout a lifetime, with each new scientific discovery that debunks religious beliefs. I once argued with a friend about the fact that dinosaurs existed long before the world existed according to the bible. His answer was simple all of carbon dating was just simply wrong. In fact they had lecturer who once worked in the field tell them that carbon dating was nothing more than superstition. The voluntary blind spot grows bigger and you have no choice you must embrace ignorance to maintain your beliefs.

The more scientific findings contradict religious dogma the more likely the religious are to see science as an enemy. Many fundamentalist’s preachers now tell their followers that science is no more than a competing religion and that they simply will have to choose which to believe in. After all we need to look at the gifts they gave science gave us almost every modern invention but the gifts that religion gave were wars, bigotry, murder, and torture. Why were millions were killed in Germany during WWII? Because they were Jews living in a nation with a large Christian majority. The very existence of a competing religion is an insult to those who believe in another and in the end murder is the only to exterminate the other point of view. If the Muslim extremists could do it they would kill every man, woman and child that believed differently after all isn’t that God’s will? Anybody that believes differently is committing the biggest sin not acknowledging the one true god. Death to the infidels is the only answer.

America no longer has enough teachers to teach science and mathematics. As more and more preachers adopt the position that science is no more than a competing religion fewer American children under the influence of religion will chose those fields. It would be hard for a teacher to teach her class that dinosaurs existed 231.4 million years ago and then go to a church that says the earth was formed only 10,000 years ago. The Church tells its followers that God says the earth was created only 10,000 years ago and God cannot be wrong. If you believe in that nonsense there is no amount of proof that will ever change your mind your rational mind has a blind spot and your emotional mind rushes in to fill the void. Your emotional mind can block any fact and label it as fiction. There can never be any compromise between 10,000 years ago and 231.4 million years ago you have to choose between learned ignorance and fact.

On Sundays it is very apparent that 17% of the American population has made their choice ignorance whatever comes out of the preacher’s mouth will be considered the word of god unless they don’t believe it at which time they will go to another competing church that they agree with. Many Americans have decided that Christianity is no longer relevant and are joining the Muslim faith the more ignorance the stronger the attraction. Even though only 17% attend church regularly many more give lip service to their belief in God. In a recent poll 74% said they believed in god but there is good news belief in god in down from 82% in earlier years so both belief and church attendance are trending downward.

The Elizabeth Smart case clearly demonstrates how religion affects even the enforcement of laws. In Utah is effectively run by the Mormon church when another 14 year old was reported missing in one of the Fundamentalists Mormon compounds a police deputy was dispatched to the community and was told the 14 year old was on vacation and that ended the investigation. In Elizabeth Smart the whole Police force in the state of Utah was mobilized to find her in the case of the exact same case in the Fundamentalist Mormon compound every law officer in the state of Utah turned their back on the child and thousands more like her such is the influence of religion that even today in America we sacrifice children to the massive ignorance of religion.

The fact that only 17% of America’s population is religious (those who attend church regularly) and that even belief God has significantly declined falling from 82% to 74% indicates that we may be approaching a tipping point were religion will be seen for what it is a myth. There may be hope for mankind instead of struggling in the darkness of endless superstition like children afraid to step on a crack in the side walk many people go through life trying to not step on the cracks of religious tradition. Step on a crack and break your mother’s back or as the Mormon Church says if you don’t molests children you will not make into the kingdom of heaven.

One of the most reprehensible crimes in America is child molestation but it goes on many times every day in Mormon Fundamentalists communities with the full knowledge and cooperation of the authorities in fact even the authorities, mayors, judges and law enforcement officers are all molesting children. Even in prison child molesters are a pariah, the lowest of the low and their lives are in danger if they are placed in the general prison population. But yet the Fundamentalist Mormons are left alone to practice child molestation. Why? It is a religion and every religious person believes it is wrong to discredit anyone’s religion after all if they discredit one religion they in effect discredit all religions including their own.

Utah is effect run by the Mormon Church elders and no move is ever made against the Fundamentalists Mormons without their knowledge and consent. Though there has been sporadic enforcement every 60 years or so no major raid and imprisonment has happened in the last 60 years. The civil rights of the child brides in the Mormon Fundamentalists cities are being broken as surly as the civil rights of the protestors killed in Mississippi in the 60s. If politicians in Utah can’t or won’t enforce the law against child molestation than a civil rights prosecution is in order. Remember only the first two marriages of the Mormon Fundamentalists are civil and legal the other hundred or so “marriages” are nothing more than molesting the local children. It time to put an end to open child molestation once and for all. But will even the Federal government take on religious nonsense?

Joseph Smith had an imagination on par with another New Englander, Stephen King. Smith could in fact have been a character in a Stephen King novel. Joseph Smith was a practitioner of black magic. In fact his golden bible tablets were found during a black magic ritual.

_________________________________________________________________________________
“Eight months later, shortly after midnight on the appointed day Joseph and Emma went to the Hill Cumorah. After being denied the plates on four previous visits, this time Joseph left nothing to chance. Carefully adhering to the time-honored rituals of necromancy, the young couple were dressed entirely in black, and had traveled the three miles from Smith’s farm in a black carriage drawn by a black horse.”

From the book “Under the Banner Of Heaven” By John KraKauer
_____________________________________________________

I wonder how many modern day Mormons know their religion was founded during a black magic ritual. I wonder if they knew would it make any difference. The elders of the Mormon Church have done everything in their power to suppress the fact that Joseph Smith practiced black magic. A famous forger made a profitable living forging church documents that cast Joseph Smith in a bad light. The forger would take his forged documents to Church elders who would buy them at handsome price and bury them to keep the public from knowing about them. The forger is serving time with Dan Lafferty who stabbed an 18 month old baby to death in a religious ritual, possibly a black magic ritual. I wonder whether the brothers were dressed all in black and arrived in a black car shortly after midnight. Of course the Mormon Church cannot suppress the official court records where Joseph Smith was convicted of practicing necromancy.

In most of America a letch even looking at nude pictures of a 14 year old girl in privacy of his home will be arrested, convicted and sent to prison. Since there is usually a delay between his arrest and conviction the child molester could simply say that he was visited by the angel Bozo and the angel told him that golden plates were hidden on a nearby hill side and he would show him where they were located. After the doctor, lawyer policeman or whatever profession the letch practiced located the plates he could secure an assistant to help translate the Egyptian Hieroglyphics. He would put his seer stone in his hat and gaze into his hat to translate the tablets. In this translation it was revealed to him that molesting 14 year old girls was the way to salvation. The voyeur defense to the child pornography would be religious freedom. In most of America he would be convicted but in Utah the Mormons Fundamentalists would not see viewing nude pictures of 14 year old females as a crime after all most of them are going home to a 14 year old in their bedroom every night and it would just be a rerun of the late, late show.

If I was a superstitious person, and I am not, I would worry about any religion that was founded during a black magic ceremony. A superstitious person would likely deduct that a religion founded during a black magic ritual was likely being founded by the devil not god. Sacrificing and 18 month old baby and her mother to death in a religious ritual sounds like a plot from a bad horror movie if not for the fact it happened. Letchs molesting every 14 year old in town also smacks of a black magic tradition. The leadership of Mormon Church does everything possible to play down the fact that Joseph Smith was not only a believer in black magic but frequently practiced black magic.

All forms of religion are given a false mask of respectability and most people don’t want to look beyond the mirror like surface of the pond to the dark and hidden face of religion. When the mask of respectability is removed from religion you find yourself looking at the ugliness of superstition and ignorance.

Joseph Smith fascination and practice of black magic clearly demonstrates that religion and black magic are just different sides of the same coin. One that accepts that supernatural power can be used for good, prayer for instance, must also accept the supernatural power can be used for harm, black magic. Once one buys into the supernatural world anything is acceptable a myriad of possible cause and effects opens up. The world is turned upside down and suddenly religion makes stabbing an 18 month old baby to death a good thing, the will of god. Mankind has a basic morality program that is ingrained to be sure there are defective people like psychopaths who are born without a conscious but the vast majority are good people. Just as a small percentage of babies are born without arms some are born without a conscious. What religion does is allow people to override their basic morality because an imaginary higher power has willed it. Religion is like playing with a bomb sooner or later it will explode and kill millions. Instead of trying to understand ourselves time is wasted getting drunk on super natural nonsense.

Religion is a bad solution for a problem that for the most part doesn’t exist. One of the primary purposes of religions is control the actions of the population. Civil authority was also set up to control the actions of the population. When someone murders someone civil authorities arrests and put him in jail. Religions on the other hand believe they can maintain civil control by telling their flock they will burn in hell for all eternity for murdering many people if they don’t find in in their heart to repent and follow Jesus. Hmm which approach is likely to return results? If someone repents all sins are forgiven. The churches have good public relations. They take credit for what they can’t possibly accomplish. Ninety-six percent of the population is made up of basically good people, not that they can’t do something wrong under stress but basically they will never murder their children for the life insurance money. The other four percent are psychopaths and are dangerous. They may not all kill their children for the life insurance some of them kill their wives for the life insurance. Functional studies of psychopath’s brains show that their brains did not develop in key areas needed to form moral judgements. In other words they have no conscious, killing their wife is strictly a financial decision their only concern is how to avoid being caught by the authorities. We would never expect a person born blind to see or a person born without arms to use them and we should never expect a person born without a conscious to develop one.

Religions teaches basically that all people are born psychopaths (bad people) and religion is their only salvation that keeps their darker side in check. Most people realize that religion will never make the blind see or paralyzed walk but fully expect to miracle when it comes to psychopaths. The fact is that 96% of people are basically good people and religions take credit for miraculously curing the people who were never sick in the first place this gives them claim to a tremendous cure rate. Like the snake oil salesmen of the past they claim that their snake oil cures everything. They will admit that their religion can’t cure everyone they have failures. Preachers who kill and molest occur in the exact same percentage in religions as they do in the general population with the exception of the Mormon church were the molestation rate is 100%. While child molestation occurs in only a small percentage of general population it is near a 100% in Fundamentalists Mormon communities. Why? Child molestation is believed to be God’s will. Religion supersedes inborn morality.

Religions are given credit where no credit is due. The facts is that there is an inborn moral code in most people that is reflected in our civil laws and for those who lack a moral compass no amount of time spent in church will ever create a conscious and they are likely as not to spend time in church molesting children.

Since the beginning of time arguing with those who are main lining religion has been difficult if not impossible. In the first place the religious have over rode their rational minds and decided to use their emotional minds, they feel, believe, etc. When it comes to belief facts simply don’t matter. It is very similar to arguing with someone with Alzheimer no matter what the facts are they continue to insist that their perception is correct. There is no need for their subjective experience of the world to obey the laws of the universe and because their arguments need not be rational they can make up any argument whole cloth from fantasy. The world’s greatest philosophers have struggled with the question of the existence of god but the battles have always been waged on the turf of the religious. When first you venture into fantasy land and try to win the argument you have lost because you acknowledged the existence of a fantasy land by proxy. Once you enter their fantasy the rules of the real world no longer apply. Facts are but things you wish were true they don’t hold any weight in a fantasy world.

In any argument about the existence of god a person can simply make up a god on the spot and fully expect this made up god to have equally validity as any known fact. Of course anybody with a good imagination could make up a god and the fact that it is impossible to disprove supernatural proposition does not make it true. The burden of proof is traditionally placed on those who claim the supernatural does not exist by virtue of the fact they are in the minority. Numbers in our society in themselves are an accepted illegitimate form of proof as polls will attest. In herd animals, and man is a herd animal, it is generally believed by most members of the herd that it is going in the right direction. Those who stray from the direction of the herd are often picked off by predators. No species ever truly escapes its origin.

In order for mankind to live in close proximity to other men rules are necessary to protect life in property. These rules must be derived from an authority such as a civil authority and have consequences if the rules are broken. The Middle East where three of the major religions originate (Jewish, Christian and Muslim) was primarily a nomadic. A stable civil authority was hard to establish in a people always on the move. In America civil authorities derive their authority from the people. In a nomadic society a civil authority is under constant contention as one tribe overruns another. By creating a higher authority, a god, they were able to encode a stable civil code that could be passed down to the next generation of nomads. The authority did not need to be derived from a king or a vote the authority superseded the tribal leader’s authority. Our bodies have organs that no longer serve a useful purpose. Everything existed for a reason at one time, religion once served a useful purpose in the evolution of man in establishing authority but the harm it does now far out weights the good. You can only live in a fiction for so long, the movie must end and you must face reality.

Religions have one thing in common they are peddling divine knowledge from the supernatural realm. If this could be debunked would it change anything? Most religious “knowledge” can easily be debunked but it does not bother the faithful. Knowledge handed down from a Supreme Being would be without flaw. The bible had a flat earth lying at the center of the universe. Of course the bible has been edited on several occasions. Let’s face it a God that created everything could have not possibly made such a glaring error. Who could possibly made such a huge mistake? If the bible reflects the state of man’s knowledge at the time it was written and it does, than the Bible is a forgery with God’s name on it. Knowledge handed down from a Supreme Being would have provided knowledge from thousands of years in the future which it does not. The Bible is a combination of fiction and folklore and the history of a violent and murderous tribe.

The Mormon religion is extremely important to the study of religion because it was formed in the recent well documented history. From its inception in the caldron of black magic and superstition to its most recent gentler incarnation. Religion is supposed to be divine knowledge that changes society but in real life it is society and the United States Calvary that changed the Mormon religion. One of the main tenants of Mormonism was plural marriage and the mainstream Mormons faced with force quickly abandoned their religious belief in plural marriage while others like Romney that magic underwear wearing presidential candidate, grandfather fled to Mexico. The Fundamentalists Mormons still believe that the more little girls you molest the higher you will be exalted in heaven.

Joseph Smith’s belief that being black was a direct punishment from God for the most part was abandoned in 1971 when black people were first allowed to attend Mormon services. The Civil Rights movement changed the belief structure of the mainstream Mormons. If in fact Joseph Smith golden bible dropping had any truth to them this would not have happened. Smith would have been correct and God would have owned up to punishing all those people by painting them black. Joseph Smith so called knowledge can shown to reflect all the ignorance of his time. Joseph Smith was an extremely ignorant man even for his day and time, he of course was intelligent but very ignorant. Most people in Joseph Smith’s time knew black people were from Africa but Smith believed they were Israelites who were punished by God. You can clearly see the just world hypothesis at work in Smith’s mind black people lot in life was terrible so therefor they must be being punished for their misdeeds.

The Mormon Church gives us the one of the best opportunities to study the formation of a major religious cult. The formation of most major religious cults took place thousands of years ago and the actual facts have been manipulated by their loyal followers and the history of their formations are obscured by time and lack of written documentation. If it were in the power of the Mormon Church to expunge Joseph Smith’s long criminal record as a professional conman they would. The Mormon Church is embarrassed that it was founded during a black magic ceremony and constantly downplays that fact.

The recruiting of new followers for the Mormon Church would be difficult if not impossible if they approached new recruits by telling them their founder was a known conman with a long string of documented cons. That he practiced black magic and in fact the church was founded during a black magic ceremony but that is not the message they use to recruit. What does the example of Joseph Smith tell us about the formation of other religious cults? It is very likely that there is a formula for the successful formation of a religious cult, a perfect storm if you will. Certain key ingredients must come together for the formation of a religious cults, first and foremost the founder must be an accomplished conman who has no problem with deceiving others to achieve his ends. Second the founder must be a major charismatic leader that is attractive to both men and women. The leader has to be a dominate personality who completely dominates his followers by forming a leadership pyramid were those in the top layers of the pyramid dominate those in the next layers down the pyramid. It is important that the leader be able to size up his followers and attract those who are disposed to follow and not lead. There must also be mechanism in place such as excommunication where decenters can be quickly removed. In the Fundamentalist Mormon Church a decenter is not only excommunicated and shunned but he is stripped of his wives and children. His wives and children are considered property of the church and can be given to another more faithful member.

Whenever these conditions and other converge a perfect storm takes place and a religious cult explodes into life. Many religious cults are born in each generation but few survive beyond that generation. To survive they must not only keep the myth alive but they must keep it relevant to generations that follow. The Mormon Church had to abandon the part of their myth that stated that black skin was a punishment handed down by God on those who dissented. The mainstream Mormons also had to abandoned Joseph Smith plural marriage doctrine. In a hundred years the Mormons will likely have to jettison many more of Joseph Smith’s original doctrines and will no doubt fragment into many sub religious cults. When it comes to myths there is only one constant and that constant is change.

Religious cults are common but few reach the tipping point. There were many other religious cults that were born in the same time period as the Mormon Cult but they died out within a generation. One of the most important duties of union member is recruiting new member and that is also one of the most important duties of a member of the Mormon Church. Mormons take recruiting new cult members to an extreme not found in any other religious cult. Young Mormons are required to spend two years of their life recruiting new members. Often, like Romney, in his magic underwear, they are sent overseas to recruit in foreign countries. This is one of the most extreme recruiting efforts in any known religious cults and it has been extremely successful. The Mormons claim to recruit a million new cult members every three years how many remain in the cult a few years down the road is not known.

Recruiting is one of the keys to success of the Mormon Cult. Imagine as a member of the local Baptist Cult you were told at 18 you were being sent to Ireland for two years to recruit new cult members. This recruiting method is equivalent to the draft where young men were sent to war. The Mormon Cult announced that they were dropping the age of required cult service abroad from 19 to 18 for men and from 21 to 19 for women. The colleges that serve mainly Mormon Cult members, like the University of Utah, Weber University and Utah Valley University, were appalled because enrollment will drop radically as the young march off to spread cut teachings. The analogy of a military style operation in the Mormon Cult is closer then what one might expect. In the Fundamentalist Mormon Cult the cult leader has the power to strip a cult member of his wives and children not even military commanders have the power to take away a man’s wife and children. The mainstream Mormon Church also has military like command structure but lacks the power to strip a member of his wives and children.

Those of us who have learned to rely on their rational mind find themselves besieged by an army of infidels, those who not only rely on ignorance but live and breathe it every day. The idea that so much human effort is put forth to further the cult of a conman speaks to how absolutely desperate people are to avoid reality. The call of the emotional mind rings loud in all of us. The belief that it can rescue us from an ultimate death even if it has to transport us into a different dimension is just a form of escape not a reality.

One day you hear the doorbell an when you open the door you find that old conman Joseph Smith standing there. He tells you he is selling underwear but it is not just any underwear this is magic underwear. Really! I am not interested in magic underwear but perhaps if you had some magic beans. The man refuses to remove is foot that is blocking your door and proceeds to tell you that the underwear is indeed magic and says look there is a star on the underwear. You tell him that you would not be caught dead in that terrible looking underwear. He says I can see you have been considering your ultimate demise. This magic underwear is necessary for your salvation. What makes you think that? John the Baptist told me that when he ordained me as minister. Really, I heard he died a couple of thousand years ago. Smith says he has a picture to prove it and shows the prospective member the picture. After looking at the picture he tells Smith that is just a painting and anyone can paint a picture. You tell Smith I don’t think there is a one in 500 billion chance there is any truth to your story but put me down for fifty pair I don’t want to take any chances.

This thought exercise would be funny if it were not for the fact it is happening every day in America of course it is not Joseph Smith that shows up on the door step but one of his cult members and many people are buying the story and putting on magic underwear.
