This is a daily occurance in America, and it will keep happening.

We don't have daily mass killing with antifreeze and fire extinguishers over here.

One of the first thing you will hear from an NRA member is that guns are used for target practice. But blowing a hundred holes through a target defeats the purpose. You are bound to hit the bullseye with one round

The number of kills is directly proportional to the weapon use. The mass murders of 50 or over all involve assault weapons.

You might be surprised how many killing are done with antifreeze. A body that is full holes is ruled as murder quickly but an old person who is already ill and under a doctor's care can be killed with antifreeze without raising suspicion. If you die under a doctor's care, there is no questions.

I think the mass murders will get worse until people are afraid to leave their home.

There are no gun laws in actual practice. That shows you what the gun manufacturers can do when they stick together.

We have the best government money can buy and we have all kinds of buyers.

I have to admit I can't remember a mass shooting of over 50 people.

There was another one today this time at Virginia State University.

A recent mass shooting in Thailand has prompted the government to immediately stop issuing any more gun permits.

That's what happens in most countries, shooting incidents result in tougher gun laws. Only in America is it business as usual.

Over here we had a case involving a mass murder, Dr Harold Shipman, but he didn't use antifreeze, he used diamorphine.

Why would a doctor use antifreeze when he has access to loads of drugs?

I don't think any happiness was implied. Nearly all the "mass shootings" (technically over 4, I believe) these days involve assault-styled weapons. Their sales overwhelm the sale of sporting rifles and, with high capacity magazines, they can fire many more rounds and much faster. These assault-styled weapons and high-capacity magazines were once banned but were brought back by the Republicans. They appeal to a generation brought up on Rambo and other spin-offs. They are unsuitable for anything other than slaughter.

Unfortunately, the ubiquity of small arms isn't confined to the USA anymore, but the USA is an outlier when you look at developed countries with democratic governments.

It will take the US Supreme Court to reject the "self-defense" interpretation of the 2nd Amendment and correct the mistaken notion that the function
of the now obsolete "militia" was to arm citizens to overturn domestic tyranny.

In Democratic governments the movement is towards more not less gun control.

The US is more than an outlier, it's moving in the opposite direction, not just automatic weapons, but 3d printed guns.

There doesn't seem to be any appetite for any real change.

Plenty of mass shootings are carried out with non automatic weapons.

This is rearranging the deckchairs on the Titantic.

All guns are the problem.

I'm not being argumentative. I just remember so many arguments with gun nuts where they kept redefining the automatic aspect of weapons, mentioning "bump stocks" (whatever they are,) that I don't think very limited control of "automatic weapons," (however they may be defined,) would make any real difference at all.

And that's something else. It's only when discussing guns with Americans that I end up going down so many rabbit holes and have to write such convoluted sentences.

With everyone else it's guns, end of.

No wonder you don't enact reform, spending all your time arguing what guns are, what the framers of the constitution wanted etc. instead of dealing with the reality of mass shootings every day of the week.

Each journey starts with the first step. Otherwise, you just throw your hands up and say we will accept 100 mass murders a week as normal.

You solve a problem by breaking it down and solving the easiest part first.

Try Las Vegas and the night club in Miami I believe. We could round up a few more. One is too many.

I don't know about Virginia State but there was one in Michigan where 5 were killed and little girl was shot four times. That what we need in America more little girls shot and more guns.

Trump was given a million-dollar bribe by the NRA during his first campaign you reap what you sew, and more little girls shot is what we reaped.

We know that our for-profit healthcare system will eventually collapse under its own weight. The Clintons campaigned for national health care system in the 90s. The ungodly greedy have our political system by the balls now and that will change in the next hundred years. The ungodly greedy are like cockroaches and are already looking for places to hide. So many of the ungodly greedy have taken up residence in New Zeeland that they are thinking about banning them. Others now have residences in revamped missile silos.

Currently my wife and I are paying close to $1,000 a month for insurance and Medicare not counting that I paid for Medicare all my working life without benefit. Afterall that the insurance turns down 50% of the requested medical procedures.

I suspect that less than 10% of the antifreeze deaths are found and less than 10% of those was a suspect convicted of the crime. Testing for present antifreeze should be routine.

Doctors don't have a financial interest in their patients, but others do. Little old ladies have been known to kill nine or ten people before they are caught. Drugs are hard to come and traceable. Nobody checks when you walk out of auto parts store with antifreeze.

And suicides. The issue with the assault-styled weapons is the ease at which they can be employed for mass killing, which is logical, as that's what they were designed for. High powered hunting rifles are suitable for killing at longer distances, which is what they were designed for, as in the Charlie Kirk assassination. Similarly handguns, which are more easily carried out of sight, are more commonly used in person-on-person robberies, domestic disputes, and again, suicides. Not arguing with you, either – at base the issue is guns themselves. But we have a representational form of democratic government dominated by two major parties. Once one of them realized it could win elections by repealing gun control laws and that the Supreme Court would back them up we're left with little to work with.

A significant chunk of our electorate is dumb enough to oppose any measure which makes it difficult to obtain the murderous tools which have become part of their self-identity. If anyone has a practical solution, I haven't heard it. However, the current legal interpretation could easily be overruled by a future Supreme Court. That's about the most realistic hope we have, but I don't know how the four hundred million weapons in civilian hands could ever be confiscated or rendered harmless.

I understand what you're saying, but I cannot understand how people are content with how things are.

If they are blaming anything it's video games and rap music.

You see them on the news shrugging and saying it's how the world is.

It seems to be accelerating, there really does seem to be some sort of shooting every day.

I remember back in the 70s it was the inner city that was the danger with films like Fort Apache the Bronx, but these places seem safer now, but the rest of America is more dangerous.

These mass shootings are happening everywhere.

I now live in a more rural part of the UK.

Farmers do have guns, but the licensing is very rigorous, having to be signed off by a high ranking police officer, and then it's only rifles and shotguns.

I'd rather a farmer shoot a fox than a load of Hooray Henries dressed in red chase it all over the vountryside with a pack of hounds.

People shoot rabbits, but something like a deer requires a special licence.

"Well, which would you prefer then – frequent shootings which occur somewhere else or drug-crazed, dark-skinned, illegally-voting, undocumented immigrants eating your pets, murdering your family, and breaking your Christmas ornaments – huh – which one you gonna choose???"
