@Zardoz,
Once the necessary security upgrades, (armour plating, bullet proof glass etc.) have been carried out, it's more like $300,000 per vehicle.

@izzythepush,
You have a good point there they will need to be modified just as Trump's new Air Force One gifted from the Arabs had to be modified to tune of $400 million and even that was not enough. Trump had to fly the old Air Forse one home as the new Air Forse One did not have many of the military features like refueling in the air. But you have to remember Trump promised to balance the budget. Trump is spending money like it is on fire he wants to spend it before it goes up in smoke.

@izzythepush,
Trump has made a fortune at Mar a Lago by charging the government for his entire entourage. Trump even charges the secret service for use of golf carts. If I was the secret service, I would tell him we are not paying you for golf carts to protect you. You are on your own don't mind that guy with the gun over there he is just hunting.

It has come out what actually happened with the reflecting pool. Trump told the contractor to use the liner designed for swimming pools. The liners used for ponds are different from those for ponds, pools and are made to withstand different chemicals. When the very strong chemicals needed to kill algae went into the reflecting pool things came apart. In a pool the chemicals are not as strong. I can put chemicals to kill the algae in pool, and it is safe to swim in 15 minutes.

This incident reminds of Trump having one of his hotels painted. The contractor had spec'd a paint. Trump decide to use the cheapest paint instead. When the paint was washed it came off. Trump blamed the contractor.

The most used word in the midterm election will be "communist" most people are ignorant of what a communist is, but it is one of the most scary words in the English language. The biggest and most important difference is while in America we believe in a free market to set production goals and prices. Communists believe that government should decide what is produced and how much. Most communist countries have now started using some free market ideas. There is no such thing as a pure capitalist country or a pure communist country today. Like it or not we pick the best ideas from either system. We had a purer form of Capitalism before the Great Depression. Capitalism is designed as a winner take all system. This is great for the winner but what about those who lost? When a man died in America prior to the Great Depression his wife was left with nothing. The widows scrounged through the other people's garbage for something to eat. The richest country in the world and while some lived like kings others starved.

Capitalism was widely believed to have failed during the Great Depression the American Communist party had proposed a social security like program. FDR stole the communist's idea and created social security program. I don't know of anyone today who would turn down their social security because it was the communist's idea. Like it or not we are a blended form of government and will continue to use the best ideas of both systems.

We have suffered greedism for the last 45 years. Frank Myers was the father of conservativism was a communist who answered to Moscow. A leopard may change his spots, but he is still a leopard, his formative years will always influence his thinking. Trump has decided his battle cry will be communist, communists, communists. The public needs to be reminded that the real communists were the founders of the modern conservative movement and Frank was not alone. Frank taught communism to American youth.

Trump thinks he can just label anyone whose politics is different as a communist and the public will believe his lies. The main difference between communism and free market economy is that communists believe that the government should control the means of production and distribution. There is not one of the people Trump wants to label a communist that believes that.

Reagan was the first president that Frank Myers got elected and the greedism started a huge shift in wealth to the greedy rich. Income tax was cut by 75% on the rich while social security was raised 5 times on the middle class to fund the tax cuts for the rich. I believe conservative movement (greedism) was designed by Frank Myers to destroy America whether it was or not it is having the same effect. When a trillionaire pay no income taxes and college education costs $300,000 in a state school the real communists will be able to take over without firing a shot.

We need a measuring stick to measure what modern conservatism movement did for America. I think the best two indicators are going to be the cost of a public education and the percentage of income tax paid by the ultrarich. You can't count on percentage figure in the tax book because there are so many deductions the rich can claim that after deductions they don't pay any income tax. We have gone from a country.

In 1944 the income tax rate was 94% and now a trillionaire pays no income tax. I paid $126 dollars a semester to go to college. That means my total tuition cost was $1008 for 4 years at a university. Something I could pay for by mowing lawns. Now a university education can cost up to $300,000.

The two things are interrelated as the cost education went up the income taxes went down. We now import something else from third world countries, and it is something Trump wants to see more of. It is not steel it is educated aliens because America no longer educates enough Americans to fill the skilled jobs in America. India, a third world country, can afford to educate their children, but we can't.

At one time in America, we had indentured servants who paid for their passage to America by working off their debt. Now we have indentured servants once again who spend a lifetime paying off their student debt to the banks.

The republican justification for cutting taxes on the rich is always if the taxes are cut on the Ultra rich it will generate more income taxes as the tax cuts money will be invested in new businesses who will pay income tax. This is the stated reason, but it didn't happen the rich bought private islands and new Lear jets. The national debt stood at $1 trillion in 1981 when the conservatives took over and instituted this type of thinking. Now the National debt stands at$38.52 trillion Ater the massive Reagan tax cuts, the baby Bush tax cuts, and the Trump tax cuts the national debt went up by 37. This type of math only benefits the ultra-wealthy. It is called the art of misdirection they will holler communist, communist, communist, while they continue to steal the country blind. We need to demand that the Alternative Minimum Tax be bought back on incomes over a million that way trillionaires will have to pay income tax and can no longer laugh at the rest of us for paying taxes.

Bending reality and manipulating people has become the main purpose of politics. Politics has become distorted by the cult of personality. Our system of politics was designed to operate on principal that voters would vote for their best interests but that has been replaced by voting for their favorite personality. How has that worked out? A trillionaire paying no income tax that is not in the best interests of America. In the 60s they listed all the millionaires that paid no income tax one was old lady Dodge she paid no income tax on income over a million dollars from tax free bonds. There was an outcry across the country as to how unfair it was that so many millionaires paid no income tax. Congress listened and passed the Alternative Minimum Tax. What happened to the AMT? A few years down the road some congressmen claimed that the AMT was now being paid by the middle class, so they repealed it.

Who benefited by doing away with the AMT? The trillionaire and billionaires. All that was necessary to protect the middle class was to index to AMT to inflation. It is clear that billionaires were able to manipulate the congressmen to repeal the AMT so in America now it is clear the minority's tail is wagging the dog. It is now going to take a major outcry by the public as it did in the 60s to bring back the AMT.

The ultra rich were able to do away Alternatives Minimum Tax because they were organized and well financed. This allowed many like Trump to pay no income tax for years. To counter this, we are going to have join the battle we don't have the cubic bucks the ultra-rich have, but elections are won by votes, and we have about 10 times the potential votes what we lack is organization and education. When a politician is given a million-dollar (bribe)campaign contribution they are buying influence. There is one thing politician wants more, his job. If you can deliver a reliable block of votes at election time you can gain influence because what you give you can take away.

Organizations are important and cooperation between organizations with common goals is important. I organized the cooperation between the police, fire, and the city employees. We sat down together and selected and endorsed a slate of city council members. Of the seven the ultra-rich elected one but we elected six. It sent a message that the vote could be more powerful than the dollar.

When I was president of the local, I had a union member ask me if management could do this or do that. I assured him that management could do anything they wanted as long as no one stood up to them. That is why we have a trillionaire paying no income tax and students with $300,000 student loans to go to a state school. We simply stood by and said nothing while it happened. Our constitution gave the political power to people it did not give it to the ultra-rich. The ungodly greedy can get by with anything as long as we do not use our political power.

How could a relative few ultra-wealthy take the political power away from the majority? Divide and conquer. I worked the 2004 presidential election and went door talking to union voters. What you found was wedge issues. Some were voting only on abortion others voted only for gun rights. It is the art of misdirection while they got you stirred up about abortion and guns; they were robbing your children of $300,000. We have the power to shape America, but it will take lots of work and education. In business it often takes years to catch someone that is embezzling. The trillionaire and the ungodly greedy have been using bribes (campaign contributions) to embezzle from our children. In a pure capitalist system, it is winner take all system. Our economic system is not pure capitalism it is a blended system with the best ideas from all system of government.

As America transitioned from a farm-based economy to manufacturing economy it left behind the wives. In a farm-based economy when you old you continued to live in the family home and eat there. If you worked for a company when you died your wife was penniless. They literally ate out of other people's trash. The solution was collectiveness (that evil word) where everybody paid into social security. Fire insurance and car insurance are an economic solution solved by collectiveness.

Non issues over here.

We don't force women to have babies so the NRA can use them for target practice.

No second amendment and free healthcare, (in Wales the prescriptions are free for everyone.)

@izzythepush,
Abortion was the first major foray into politics by the religious right it was an attempt to force their religious fairy tales on the rest of the country. Their argument was that the soul entered the body at conception. There is no soul or any proof that any ever existed it is simply a religious superstition. The religious right was able to use the power of government to impose their religious values on many people in some states. The concept that you should be able to make decisions for yourself is against everything religion stands for if they can't control you, they will make sure government does.

Abortion was the religious right's foot in the government power door. Abortion is the first step toward religious control of America. Afterall if they can imagine soul and use the government to enforce their imagination what will they imagine next? That the bible never mandated that women could drive so therefore women should not be able to drive. Let's face it there is no limit to imagination of what other people should not be able to do.

Guns are a reality in America and that won't change but guns that are designed as weapons of war and allow one man to kill 50 people in one incident should not be on the street. That is not a varmint gun it is a weapon of war.

Several politicians now pushing for Medicare for all it isn't universal health care, but it is a step in the right direction. My prescription program pays all but a few dollars on most prescriptions. My wife ran into the "donut hole" a few years ago where the prescription doesn't pay and her blood thinner cost $532.

@Zardoz,
There was another familial extermination shooting in Kansas today.

The man, a covicted sex offender, killed his wife and four kids before shooting himself.

I don't know how people can just shrug their shoulders and accept it as how things are.

That could easily have been done witn a "varmint gun."

My grandparents had a small farm and hunted to supplement their food supply. Guns had legitimate purpose I still remember how loud the guns were when they target practiced. I don't remember the mass murders taking place when I was a child just the St Valentines Day massacre and that was a mob hit. Pistols held six bullets and rifles only a few. Pistols now hold 20 rounds or more and AR style guns can hold sixty rounds. There are fewer people own guns but those that own guns own many more. The people that hunt now hunt for sport and not food.

There should be study done of the number of mass murders done fifty years ago and the number of mass murders today and the number of victims per mass murder done today. Then the study needs to look at the type and availability of guns both then and now. We don't need assault weapons to protect your home a shotgun will stop most people even without even opening the door.

I can't even imagine being a student and having to worry about a fellow student bringing his AR-15 that his dad bought him to school.

The Dunblane massacre was carried out with rifles and handguns.

That was horrific enough to lighten up our gun laws conxiderably.

Killings can be done with a baseball bat or antifreeze, but you can't kill 50 in a matter of minutes. Assault weapons were designed to kill 50 people in a matter of minutes.

At one time in America killing people with bombs was common and often bystanders were killed. When I was teenager anyone could go to hardware store and tell them you needed to take out a stump, and you could buy dynamite and make a bomb. The public can no longer buy dynamite, and it can only be purchased by licensed and qualified individuals. People still have stumps do you think we should go back? Bombs are also weapons of war.

Embezzle may seems like a strong word for what is going in our government. We usually think of embezzlement as an insider crime someone with access. The rich are political insiders, and their money gives them access that the middle class doesn't have. Our government has been looted by those who no longer pay taxes. There are two things that demonstrate that the embezzlement has been going on college tuition in a state school going from a $1000 to $300,000 in 50 years and the rich income tax going from 25% to 0. Those figures are directly related.

At one time the rich would never brag about not paying taxes, Elon Musk rubs the American's people's nose in it. Why? Because he does not think we can do damn thing about it. He thinks he has all the political power, but the American people are a sleeping giant and when they awake there will be hell to pay.
