Now for the update.

No luck spotting him even today. I strained my eyes for an hour looking out for him during lunch, but nada.

I also visited the cafeteria a couple more times during the day - once to pee and the other time to get water, but nada.

I'm guessing he's on Diwali leave or something. If that's the case, it might be a week before I could see him at all.

Anyway, I'm not going to make any special efforts to search for him from tomorrow. Sooner or later he's going to appear, I know.

@spidergal,
Quote:
According to current estimates, 80% of all schools are government schools[26] making the government the major provider of education. However, because of poor quality of public education, 27% of Indian children are privately educated.[29] According to some research, private schools often provide superior results at a fraction of the unit cost of government schools.[30][31][32] However, others have suggested that private schools fail to provide education to the poorest families, a selective being only a fifth of the schools and have in the past ignored Court orders for their regulation.[33] In their favour, it has been pointed out that private schools cover the entire curriculum and offer extra-curricular activities such as science fairs, general knowledge, sports, music and drama.[29] The pupil teacher ratios are much better in private schools (1:31 to 1:37 for government schools and more teachers in private schools are female.[34] There is some disgreement over which system has better educated teachers. According to the latest DISE survey, the percentage of untrained teachers (paratechers) is 54.91% in private, compared to 44.88% in government schools and only 2.32% teachers in unaided schools receive inservice training compared to 43.44% for government schools. The competition in the school market is intense, yet most schools make profit.[29]

Even the poorest often go to private schools despite the fact that government schools are free. A study found that 65% of schoolchildren in Hyderabad's slums attend private schools.[32]

Private schools are often operating illegally. A 2001 study found that it takes 14 different licenses from four different authorities to open a private school in New Delhi and could take years if done legally.[32] However, operation of unrecognized schools has been made illegal under the Right to Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act[27] which has also significantly simplified the process of obtaining recognition.

[edit] Homeschooling
Homeschooling is legal in India, though it is the less explored option. The Indian Government's stance on the issue is that parents are free to teach their children at home, if they wish to and have the means. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has stated that despite the RTE Act of 2009, if someone decides not to send his/her children to school, the government would not interfere.[35]

[edit] Secondary education
The National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986, has provided for environment awareness, science and technology education, and introduction of traditional elements such as Yoga into the Indian secondary school system.[36] Secondary education covers children 14-18 which covers 88.5 million children according to the Census, 2001. However, enrolment figures show that only 31 million of these children were attending schools in 2001-02, which means that two-third of the population remained out of school.[37] A significant feature of India's secondary school system is the emphasis on inclusion of the disadvantaged sections of the society. Professionals from established institutes are often called to support in vocational training. Another feature of India's secondary school system is its emphasis on profession based vocational training to help students attain skills for finding a vocation of his/her choosing.[38] A significant new feature has been the extension of SSA to secondary education in the form of the Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan[39]

A special Integrated Education for Disabled Children (IEDC) programme was started in 1974 with a focus on primary education.[21] but which was converted into Inclusive Education at Secondary Stage[40] Another notable special programme, the Kendriya Vidyalaya project, was started for the employees of the central government of India, who are distributed throughout the country. The government started the Kendriya Vidyalaya project in 1965 to provide uniform education in institutions following the same syllabus at the same pace regardless of the location to which the employee's family has been transferred.[21]

A multilingual web portal on Primary Education is available with rich multimedia content for children and forums to discuss on the Educational issues. India Development Gateway [41] is a nation wide initiative that seeks to facilitate rural empowerment through provision of responsive information, products and services in local languages.

Main article: higher education in India
Our university system is, in many parts, in a state of disrepair...In almost half the districts in the country, higher education enrollments are abysmally low, almost two-third of our universities and 90 per cent of our colleges are rated as below average on quality parameters... I am concerned that in many states university appointments, including that of vice-chancellors, have been politicised and have become subject to caste and communal considerations, there are complaints of favouritism and corruption.

– Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2007[42]

Besides top rated universities which provide highly competitive world class education to their pupil, India is also home to many universities which have been founded with the sole objective of making easy money. Regulatory authorities like UGC and AICTE have been trying very hard to extirpate the menace of private universities which are running courses without any affiliation or recognition. Students from rural and semi urban background often fall prey to these institutes and colleges.

I enjoy the Bollywood songs but the stories are of very low standard. Some movies are good like "Mere Mehboob, Mother India", most Dev Anand, Rajendra Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachan movies. But many are very near stalker like heroes.

@talk72000,
1. This was ten years ago.

2. Where do you get this from? Source? Link?

3. Again, even if you can prove most people don't get to go to school, you still haven't proven anything about boys and girls not studying together. That was what I had been pointing to.

@spidergal,
Sorry I lost my interest in this debate after seeing the Wikipedia link.

I'm tired. It's almost midnight. I have an effing 10-hour work day. I need sleep.

@spidergal,
Maybe he got a word from the wise. Let's hope so. I suspect that you will be glad of any outcome which means you no longer have to deal with this.

@spidergal,
You don't know his educational background. Techie types are the worst with girls anyway. If he is a techie he is inept socially. This is the difficulty I am expressing. If he was really bad he wouldn't be working at the big company. He is probably a nerd and socially inept.

@Setanta,
Yeah, I don't know that I'd go out of my way to look for him. I certainly wouldn't make special trips to the lunchroom to do so.

spidergal --- Do what you can to put him out of your thoughts. I know he's invaded your thought process and has totally creeped you out, but going out of your way to put yourself in his path isn't the best idea, imo.

Agree. Talk, you are telling a woman who is frightened by a possible stalking type that she looks rather like a certain movie star? Total insensitivity.

@ossobuco,
I think it is overblown. The guy is a nerd and probably inept. I used to get guys asking me what to do with a girl - even Caucasians. I uaually give them an objective view. Spidergal put in her photo and out of curiosity I expanded it and gave my view i.e. she resembled Hema Malini. I just wanted to take her mind off for a while and let her into Disneyland where the video is taken in the movie.

@talk72000,
You are unthinking on this. The fellow may not be stalking but he also may be. I don't care if you think it is overblown.

I've been stared at in a library, rather long ago now, and I had a wave of thinking it was creepy at first. The same professor sat kitty corner from me, usually after I was already in the library, and when I looked up from time to time (that's where I used to somewhat rewrite and at the same time process lecture notes) he would often be looking at me. Or, maybe the clock behind me, or the library main desk past our table. Often it seemed at me, but also not really. I could tell he was busy thinking, and just looking up, sort of like how one drives a car on a non busy road, both thinking and only somewhat attending the road. He was a fairly famous scientist, clearly an active thinker, and I became more comfortable.

A woman tends to know when eyes are boring in at her. It's a different thing, in my opinion.

In any case, I take it as thoughtless that someone would remind her she looks like some actress when she is actually worried re her own observations. You didn't see his eyes.

Oh God, this ought to be good.

I want to hear what kind of story this guy came up with.
I'm sure it's all your fault spidergal, for sitting where he was choosing to look.

Yes, be strong, be strong.
